Hi... since there's been a lot of subwoofer upgrades lately, I thought we should follow up with a list of movies that will give these subwoofers an excercise and shake things up a bit, maybe with a thundering thump or two wink.gif

I'll start it off since I'm halfway through a movie now :

Knowing (Nicholas Cage) - Great bass scene at the airplane crash which then exploded a couple of times on the ground. Solid explosions there rclxms.gif

Pls share your experiences (stating movie title & specific scenes) so we can satisfy our LFE addiction icon_rolleyes.gif

For Movies:
1. U571
Is a must to have... the submarine under the sea blast. Your 5.1 and 7.1 attack from every corner. you are in the submarine........ Now I only got a DVD. Later when I got my bluray... this is a must in my collection of super blast every corner....

WARNING: People might think it is an earth quake...so..... take care of your neighbours.

2.The Day After Tomorrow.

3. Independence Day.

For Concert:
1. Sting ( All this time)
This is the concert performed on 911 day. Very nice documentary and lots of double bass. Honesly my sub cant handle this. It doesnt sound smooth. My guess is the nature of the double bass. More natural than electric bass.

2. Norah Jones ( Live in new orleans)

3. Michael Buble concert. Nice

The sound for the whole movie was 'oldish' like those previous 3 chapters.
But the THX intro part was stunningly good.

Master and Commander is also good.
I mean the scene where the battle between two ships using cannons.

Die Hard 4 : Additional scenes

1. Tunnel scene when the car flips and heads towards bruce willis and the kid. I believe that scene has LFE that goes down below 10Hz and its loud.

I had to adjust the sub trim another +3 dB for it to be better. Maybe the bass recording level is lower than usual? hmm.gif

Fuyoo..... look who is talking now tongue.gif

I'll try my puny 13-Ultra (need to use these words when talking to Elite Ron whistling.gif ) at 10Hz setting for Master & Commander. Just shifted it back to its position. Now, laying comfy on Auralex Gramma. Have to do all the setting again rclxub.gif

The Punisher (War Zone). The gun battle scenes really rock everything. Lots of LFE material for you all to enjoy.

like a Steven Seagal rough and tough kinda movie but with very little hand combat mostly all gun and fire power.

Die Hard 4 : Additional scenes

1. Tunnel scene when the car flips and heads towards bruce willis and the kid. I believe that scene has LFE that goes down below 10Hz and its loud.

2. The scene where the gas explosion is blowing thru the manholes...
*
1. AWESOMELY DEEP BASS drool.gif Tested with 15Hz setting. The pressure built up in the room is immense. IMHO, better than the Ironhide scene in Transformers. Tmw, will be testing it with 10Hz.

2. Very good but nothing near tunnel scene.

Another notable punchy and deep bass is Valkyrie' scene 2. The gunshot is tight and powerful thumbup.gif with the earthshaking explosion

That's one thing about the PB13 Ultra, it sure can build up the pressure. Say, do bring Die Hard 4 when u come to Ipoh.

Might bring my AS-EQ1. Still waiting for his reply on FR graph. Probably he is busy watching movies sweat.gif

I am running my sub at 75dB now. There isn't a need to run it hot for my room. It's easy for you to imagine it since you had auditioned it in a living hall.

Yeah, in your dedicated HT room (without openings) I think 75dB would be right for that monster sub. Although running it a bit hot would also be a blast! smile.gif

Yes, it would be but that would be immensely powerful if to run hot at +3dB. I tried at +1dB yesterday, one word says it all 'Jaw-dropping'.

I wonder at what level is arj setting it now hmm.gif

I am not sure what will happen to my house with all those bass, but i do notice that the down light just above my PC12+ is burnt twice already. What i can see when there is heavy bass moment, the down light above the sub would vibrate up and down a lot. I also see some white powder on the floor which i believe could come from the ceiling board.

When play moderately loud, the ceiling board at the back of my house and the windows and furniture in the bedroom on the second floor will vibrate too.

Ultra is a monster sub sweat.gif . It brings a whole new dimension of movie watching in my room. Then again, you need to have SPACE for this beast to be unleashed. If you have that, I bet your grin is as wide as the horizon whistling.gif

Two issues here:-

1) Loading time - longer than the usual, plus will 'laugh' at you first coz u are not connected to the net.
2) Nagivating the menus is like moving a barge! mad.gif

Hows menu navigation on the PS3?

Kevin Costner? 'Open Range' whereby a pistol sounds like a howitzer.

Yeah, very impressive gunshots but some people have said it is over mic'd.

The first movie I saw (in cinema) with bullocks of bass was BattleStar Galactica when I was a kid...it was 1980...almost 30 years ago...I feel so old sad.gif

They specially brought in humongous subwoofers and those days they called it sensurround or something... they located it in the rear...couldn't remember is the front had it also...it was an experience I will remember forever.....the first time the Colonial Viper took off...

A quick google now and it is still mentioned in the net...

Today, played Die Hard 4 again on my humble set. The AQ in the tunnel scene was really great especially during when the car flew up and down, missing Bruce Willis.... Bass was great here.

When the BD is out, I bet you will feel all those visceral breaking up of ground, thunderous waves, etc tongue.gif

My take is that it will bottoms out a lot of sub.

They stick closely with how its presented in the graphic novel mah ...

Also, its like a parallel sub-text la, the same 'journey' and the emotional ups and downs and conclusion the two respective 'heroes' take in their stories ..

Agree U-571 is a good movie for testing our SUB.

Godzilla - The 1st part when Godzilla go inside the NY City, almost every step/move from Godzilla u can feel the SUB... Boomm Boomm Boomm shocking.gif AQ was superb with my new Subwoofer(Velodyne CHT-10Q) shining brightly with ever Step!!! Good soundfield lots of LFE, but not low LFE, A little un balanced.

G.I Joe - From scenes selection u choose number 2, being attack by enemy, AMAZING!! when the helicopter has been shoot by the enemy.. boomm bla boomm shakehead.gif. 2nd part - Enemy go inside to steal back the MARS box. SUb - Woom woom womm

Behind Enemy Lines - One of my best movie (Must have it). thumbup.gif Boomm boomm boomm...

Underworld - no need to say, I think everyone also agree about this great movie with perfect AQ icon_rolleyes.gif The LFE is superb, tons of bass. The surround channels are non-stop. This movie delivers incredible sound out of the left/right rear channels, the towers while keeping voices clear through the centre channel. This was 5.1 LPCM done right. Top marks, the sound adds SO MUCH to the movie.

FOR SUB
GODZILLA Audio is the real winner here. You hear some amazing bass and the surround sound really ads immersion to the 'big' feel of Godzilla.

Overall - AQ
I prefer - Underworld.

MJ's This is it.

Not the deepest bass on earth, more like hard pumpin bass throughout the movie....if you're a MJ fan, grab a box of tissues as well...it would have been a concert of the decade!

Godzilla BD's AQ is rather disappointing by lossless audio std. I bet mpyw would agrees on this whistling.gif

It lacks the tautness and sheer deepness of LFE compares to the recent releases, esp Transformers 2 and the top of the cream, Terminator Salvation drool.gif . It pressurize my whole room even at -18dB. The sheer bass weight is mind boggling sweat.gif .

I agree with Aremmie that U-571's AQ is a 'passe' by today's std.

Valkyrie worth a mention here as the opening scene and the air raid scene are one of the tightest and deepest LFE that I came across thumbup.gif .

Monster Inc. is definitely better than Godzilla. The other movie that has good LFE is Star Trek. The warp speed is jaw dropping shocking.gif .

Now, I am waiting for MJ's This Is It rolleyes.gif .

With more BDs being encoded with LFE below 20Hz, it is going to be a fun time for bass heads. You know who you are. tongue.gif
