Yup, 1MM already consider thick edi..just covering the gap between the HS and CPU will do..

I think no need to change every few months...just check the CPU/HS lor...if the temp somewhat in a high value,then just apply again lor....i also a thin one, but its been a year since i've changed mine..the temp seems ok lor....

Check your fan lor..maybe there's something wrong with it ..I now use Win 7 and my temp idle around 65C...open up the cover and blew away all the dust inside, now idling at 59C...

well, make those people under you summarize it, easier for you to read later on
