somehow, i think that what day what day does not have any effect at all.. take earth day for example.. millions will be spend on ads and educationg people.. but the nagain.. on that day.. people will just celebrate it.. and after that, same thing back to normal sweat.gif

thats probably true for the majority of people.
but if even a handful of people are aware and they take action.
i guess it actually makes a difference.

Earth day? Little did you know the activation energy for electrical appliances like air-con, computer...etc is damn high? You're actually wasting more energy than conserving any when you simply turn it off for 1 hour and turn it on again.

The solar flare thing is untrue. We switch off during night time, which is on the opposite site of the sun. If it were a direct hit, we should switch off the power on the site facing the sun.

Solar flare is a phenomenal where there are wave-like activity on the sun, where is create a large fire ring few thousand of kilometer high into the space. It create electomagnetic wave and propogates outward. Normal flare don't affect us much, but once a while, an extremely large flare may disrupt our communication and electronics devices.

If you watch the movie "Knowing", the event that happen at the end of the movie is due to solar flare. There is another fiction book by Arthur C Clarke and Stephen Baxter, title "Sunstorm".

I dont know the real reason behind it, but if it was the truth, I believe telling the truth will have much more impact than "lying" about earth day thing.

Depending on the type of appliances as well.
1 hour of usage of a hot-plate consumes alot of electrical power!!

I felt that many didn't understand the meaning behind Earth Day/Hour.
Anyway, what I've always felt strongly is that each of us should do our part in ensuring sustainable development of the planet smile.gif

how so true
So goes the joke:

'It's a job that anybody can do.
Everybody thought somebody else would do it.
In the end nobody did it.'

the effort put in to promote the day itself is far more dissipating than any other ordinary days.

The effort to promote earth day is a waste of resources. Then the firework generate heat and release greenhouse gases, which is not good to earth as well.

People still use plastic bag when doing grocery. Whenever possible, don't use plastic bag, try those canvas bag, or put your stuff into one single plastic bag rather than letting the counter to put your thing into another plastic bag. Even those degrable plastic bag, it still take up resource to manufacturer it.

Depends perhaps. For me i'd use plastic bags, because then at home i can turn them in to rubbish bags.
Because otherwise i'd still buy those blue colour rubbish bags to be used.
Same same no?

That's what we'd call sustainable development.
If the car, in its lifetime, produce less emission than its manufacturing process, it is environmentally sustainable.
If an old car which emits high amount of polluting by-products, it's no point in keeping it neither.

But i believe age of car is not the only factor. The quality of car, and whether the owner maintains it in a good way, plays a role too smile.gif
