The latest news about Windows 7 is this, windows 7 will release 3 version's only, starter ( comes with branded PC's & Laptop's like compaq, HP, DEll & etc ), Profesional & Ultimate. Each version will come with 2 DVD, 1 DVD is x86 & the other will be x64. You can switch between x86 & x64 DVD that came with your purchase, while still using the same activation code.

Added on October 4, 2009, 3:51 amWindos 7 N & Windows 7 E are for european countries, E has mediaplayer with IE8 & 10 other web browsers to choose from, the other N does not have Windows Media Player, but it has IE8 & 10 other web browsers to choose from.

Added on October 4, 2009, 3:54 amSome technicians have already tested Windows 7 retail in US & UK, sent to them by microsoft. Not sure if malaysia already received their retail batch.

Is that mean I can have both x86 & x64 for Dell laptop that I am going to buy? The default OS bundled is Home Premium 32bit.

"Whichever system you choose, Windows 7 is ready. All packaged retail editions of Windows 7 (except for Home Basic) include both 32- and 64-bit software. "

they say retail. i dont think many of us will buy retail edition.

I think what FarCry3r is refering to is that only Starter, Professional and Ultimate will be available.

The missing link is of course Home Premium.

The news that Home Premium won't be available is definetly incorrect.

Starter is the cheapest solution for Netbooks
Professional is the lowest edition that can join domains (hence more for office PCs)
Ultimate is for people who want everything.

Home Premium definetly will be available as well since that's like the NORMAL edition which most people would use and will be included in most retail computers like how Vista Home Premium edition is use right now.

As for Home Basic, most of us here probably wouldn't need to worry about it anymore.

they do know that people won't use 32 bit and 64 bit at once right? I think they are trying to make money by including two version inside there hmm.gif

Yeah. If you check out Microsoft's website, the Home Premium Win 7 package is even available for pre-order.

At least that provides the end user with a choice. If he is happy with 32-bit for now, he can use it. If he wants a 64-bit in the future, then again he has the option to choose that too.

I agree. Sometimes 32bit users will buy Windows Vista without considering what happens if they get a new PC that supports 64bit.

i think for oem (dell, hp, acer, etc), they mostly will require users to BURN their own discs

That's why I asked for the source. If OEM version will include both 32-bit and 64-bit disc, what's the incentive to get FPP (Full Packaged Product) or retail? Apart from the ability to use it on other than ability to move the license to another computer?

I though the TS was referring to the retail versions only?

He only refers to Windows 7 starter as an OEM product. Or at least that is what I can gather from his post.

last week i pickup my office 2007 from their authorised retailer and was told the OEM upgrade version only come with 1 cd. which mean if yours is vista home premium 32bit. when u upgrade. you will be getting the windows 7 home premium 32bit copy and 32bit key only thru those pc manufacturer like dell/hp/acer/asus.

however. if u buy OEM upgrade retails windows 7 from others shop which will cost USD99. it will come with 2 cds.

unlimited should be, since it only checks ur motherboard for the correct SLIC and OEM SLP key.
if u using acer for example, with oem disc, u can activate unlimited time wif correct oem slp key

Retail (FPP) always include both 32-bit and 64-bit disc. The question is, TS posted that OEM version will also include both disc, and since TS is gone, this is just a bullcrap.

According to Steve Ballmer,
You will most probably only see 3 editions sold in most stores, which is Home Basic, Home Premium and Professional. Home Starter's main focus is for very basic use and for netbooks mainly. Enterprise, like trifecta said, will be sold through volume licensing to companies which have a Software Assurance contract with Microsoft. Windows 7 Ultimate is a version where it has all the same features in Windows 7 Enterprise but it will be available to home users.

Correct me if I am wrong, still working on my article at:

Ars Technica has a news piece detailing Newegg's pricing on almost all versions of Win 7. You can approximate it to about RM 400, or thereabouts, for an OEM copy of 7 Home Premium.

A UK friend of mine got a free retail copy of Windows 7, apparently since he's a student. Any chance of that happening here?

Its possible, via MSDN AA. Professional right?

Dun know about getting a free Win7, but the cupcake is confirmed.
LYN members can also get, but still figuring how to verify a person is from LYN and get cupcakes or maybe other freebies on that day.
*
simply by spare a desktop/laptop/netbook and ask them to log in as a LYN member? biggrin.gif

No need so hard one la.

Just post a link from here to a registered user accessible area in LYN only to print out a coupon. Bring the coupon over then can liao.

That way, non members do not have access to the coupon in the first place. biggrin.gif

If use vending machine then won't have the party/event feeling anymore lo. Feel more like Lunch break in the canteen pulak.

I'd guess for normal users, Premium should be more then sufficient. Professional if you take your Laptop or desktop to companies a lot and use a lot of their infrastructure.

Tentative pricing and specifications can be had from Microsoft.

I suppose the best feature Win 7 Pro provides to the average user is the XP compatibility mode. Apart from that, you wont be using much of it's other features.

United State is around 12 hrs behind us. So if nothing went wrong... they will start shipping it out to thier authorised reseller. some lucky buyer which make early booking from thier authorised reseller might have called thier loyal customer to pick up a copy after 6pm today.

this is common. i used to get newly launch mobile phone 1 or 2 days before it official available in the market.

got this from HK Windows 7 launch blog site.

Windows 7 Hong Kong Consumer Lauch Event

400 copies of windows 7 ultimate for only HKD377~ shocking.gif sweat.gif this is even better than Spore.

High chances of getting a copy, wall-mart in US have already started selling Windows 7 a few days back. Its not a surprise if we see the boxes in stores. However, its available in certain countries already.

OEM LICENSE > NEW MACHINE > MACHINE DIE > OEM LICENSE DIE

FULL RETAIL > NEW/OLD MACHINE(1 SYSTEM @ 1 TIME) > MACHINE DIE > LICENSE CAN MOVE TO NEW SYSTEM
