Hi All,

I'm planning to buy Vios. Would it be better to book now or wait till February 2011 so can get the next year batch? Any SA recommendation?

What is your criteria for choosing Vios? Think carefully. Vios is rough & noisy but very good as a simple work horse.

1. It is within my budget. Could not fork out more for other expensive cars.

2. Not considering Proton

3. Any cons for Vios

4. Any suggestion for other cars

My previous ride was Sentra, now the Sentra has been passed to my wife, so thinking to get a new ride, my first choice is Vios, but after tested drive it, now have to think again. Found the tires noise level in Sentra is better than the new Vios. My budget is within RM80-90K, will go to test drive the Latio and see the result again this weekend.

Latio will be damn quiet vs Vios; but it is like a moving potato - it is less lifely than Vios. Well many says Vios alone is lifeless & dull already - imagine Latio is worse than Vios.

Go downhill just shift to 2. 3 for faster curve.

I believe using 2 or 3 is more for safety purposes, to slow the speed of the car.. instead of FC concerns... hmm.gif

Higher chance of brake failures if heat catches up - if you use the brakes often from genting top to bottom, don't say we never warn you, your brakes might fail.

Besides saving fuel, the engine braking is mainly for safety (and also indirectly somewhat save your brake pads but that's not important).

It feels that for Vios the lockup-clutch works on gear 1 2 3 only. So when you are in these 3 gears while downhill - it will depends on the engine friction & gearing ratio. Even if you are on 2 if the downhill is steep enough, you can reach 80+. But if you are on the 4th... the whole car feels like free fall.

My experience in going Genting downhill with Vios is that, most of the time I only use 2, 3 occasion for long less-curvy roads.

Our Super-ECT only works on 3 & 4 - it will auto downshift to 3 when you press brake on downhill even though the car speed is on 4th-able gear. And will not simply from 3 to 4 when hill climbing. Too bad it doesn't work in 2 & 3.

p/s: The behavior above is Vios G dugong '07. Not sure about previous gen.

Based on your experiences driving Vios. Do you think Vios would win in an off-the line-acceleration against Forte and Swift Sport

Hi Folks,

I have a question. I have a 2005 Vios. I am planning to change my rims. Would 15" or 16" be better? I call up the shops and one of them told me that 16" will hit the inside when doing U-Turn. Is that true? Thanks in advance. smile.gif
