What we need in Malaysia is a bit more M&A action instead of footling around IMHO....

Well - the fact of the matter (as any M&A analyst will tell you) is that there are so many ripe opportunities for consolidation and re-structuring in many sectors in MY.

For example:

Gloves: - 2/3 companies (max) instead of seven or eight
Steel:- only room for 1/2 companies not the 8 or 10 now
O&G:- way too many firms competing in a way they can't on a world scale
Banks: - too many - CIMB swallow Maybank; PBB swallow HL/RHB?AMMB
Construction:- Too many tiny players...

I could go on but the point is that without mergers/consolidation many companies will be reduced to squabbling over the crumbs from the big boys even more than they do at present.

The reason I think that consolidation or M&A activity doesn't happen in MY so much is because of lack of visionary management and  the peanut size of the deals on offer means the main consultancy/M&A firms can't be bothered to go after the opportunities available.

The biggest problem we face with KLSE stocks/companies generally is very low levels of management competency (and ethics), IMHO.

Lesson learned. Harvard grads are only as good as grads from less prestigious universities.
Same reasoning like stock analysts' picks are no better than a chimp picking stocks by throwing darts.

CPO & Oil-Gaz are the current theme but depend on individual stock pick. Those who pick "viztel"  on last thursday easyly made 100% return on friday. Again, the stock pick. One LYN taikor advise "it a matter of selection".
