hey, im new here...im looking for an HD media player for my TV...i wanna know whats the best model out there, my budget is below RM400...it should be able to connect to HDMI, component video, USB and others...and can play all type of movie files and subtitle too...lan and wifi connection is optional...your help is really appreciated, thanks...

Western Digital exactly below 400.. But can only play most type of movie.. Don't think got player can play everything coz got many type of encoding/format/container out there..

If you are able to budget around RM1200, then u can able to play all files.

WDTV cant play RMVB, but it fits ur tight budget range. WDTV is really value for money.

Add RM200-300 more u can get a player that can play almost all the format
like AC-Ryan PlayOn!HD, and X-Treamer
If u r tight on ur budget, WDTV is a good choice that suits ur budget
but can't play rmvb

Get the AC-Ryan PlayOn!HD, or X-Treamer.

Yes, it handles most files except RMVB. Axxo files are really small and compressed, WDTV has absolutely no problem handling .avi files. My TV series are mainly in .avi and.mkv, while my movies are all in .mkvs

Dude, decide what kinda files you will be playing most of the time. For .avi and .mkv files, WDTV is the best option in yr budget.

If you mainly go for TVB series and Jap porn which are mainly in RMVB, then most china branded player can handle .avi and .rmvb.

If you need .mkv and .rmvb, then save more to get a PlayON or Xtreamer.

how about mp4 files like animes? i have mkv movies, it just that i have a lot of old axxo movies...and i dont really care about rmvb files...

go for Realtek 1073 chipset player. can support all format.

MP4s, MKVs, AVIs.... they mostly work well on WDTV....

Anyway, its yr budget and yr options.

Below 400 = WDTV and other china branded models (ask YangXi)

Below 700 = PlayON and Xtreamer

Above 1000 = DVICO

Avoid WDTV Mini.

hardware capability is the same, when you got realtek inside it means the same. what can play and what cannot play (like it doesn't play .iso for bd. ) is the same unless the firmware disable that function..

but firmware maybe will make it feel different.. I haven't tested xtreamer or acryan UI, but suspect it may be more "polished"

The UI prolly will have some diff stuff, ie the loading splash screen and etc.... but my concern is that the realtek chip is supposed to be able to support BD.iso very soon via firmware update. So will the china models have firmware update?? YangXi pls respond....

Oso, the china realtek player can decode or stream the HD audios??

Any one from Penang know where i can get the WDTV?

I'm also starting to look for a media player. This is mainly to hook up to a CRT TV (and in future probably to plasma or other HD TV). My criteria would be:

1. Able to play wide variety of formats, mainly avi, mkv, rmvb, etc.
2. Must have composite and hdmi output, even better if got component output
3. LAN connection is preferable so I can copy files to it from my PC (in another room)
4. Able to support 1 HDD internally (2.5" or 3.5" size)
5. With USB port for external HDD or thumbdrive
6. Good firmware update and support

So far I think Xtreamer fits the criteria. Any others to recommend?

Saw a box at Harvey Norman Queensbays. It is in a display glass casing near the laptop area. No many of the sales person knows what it is for. At the Plasma area there is a Divico but it is not for sales!

Don't you want to consider others especially now with so many coming out with better chipset?
