hi guys, i'm currently using soundmagic PL20, which i think is a great IEM for it's price. but now i'm thinking of upgrading. i'm not using any soundcard or headamps. what kind of earphones could u guys suggest for a strict budget of less than rm150? i'm the sort of person who listens to a lot of vocals and oldies, and i prefer clarity instead of bass. currently interested with Crossroad Mylarone SVi (RM70). is this ok? or do u guys have better suggestions? prefer earbuds, iem also ok, but not headphones though..

QUOTE(Fred86 @ Oct 22 2009, 01:32 PM) Actually you prefer earbud... can try xbrand2 or xbrand 1, both also within your budget. I have 3 of them. PL20 is my first IEM, i am enjoy it so much until i get expose to my another earbud, pk3. After you listen to pk3, you will found that PL20 is really lack of bass. You need to push hard in order to get a satisfy bass for PL20. Pk3 also have a good clarity and detail just warmer and the bass is quite good. pk3 has a large quantity of bass but the quality of bass is just satisfactory. hi, i already check out ur sales thread. it's one of my choices too, really cheap, but the reviews are amazing. Come back to xbrand2, i just get the both demo unit recently. (Too shame that, i just received the demo unit after a long time i coordinate the bulk for both the earphone). After i try them personally, I was surprised how good is the sound at the price. I also wonder how come Huangyong selling this earbud at this price. is it comparable to yuin pk2? very tempting indeed... This post has been edited by danny_sp15: Oct 22 2009, 01:53 PM |

QUOTE(Fred86 @ Oct 22 2009, 03:12 PM) xbrand2 is not comparable to pk2 yet. But xbrand2 is comparable to pk3. aisey... now really interested with xbrand1... did clieos review any of these xbrand earbuds?Huangyong own pk2. From him, xbrand1 will be the one comparable to pk2. I don't have pk2 so cant really make a comparison. This post has been edited by danny_sp15: Oct 22 2009, 07:19 PM |

Hi guys, what sort of headphones would u recommend for a budget of rm400? I'd prefer a full-sized headphone, but hopefully it wont be hard to drive, would be better if it doesnt require an amp to show it's potential. main usage (in fact, the only usage) is for music. was looking at the grado sr80i, but it's a supra-aural headphone, and it probably needs an amp to drive it well..
thanks in advance! This post has been edited by danny_sp15: Jan 1 2010, 05:43 PM |

QUOTE(moniqee @ Jan 1 2010, 05:57 PM) Audio TEchnica AD300 Audio Technica A300 Grado SR60 Alessandro MS1 ^^ the headphone that doesnt require amp is Audio Technica... which is famous for not requiring an amp... QUOTE(duh2k @ Jan 1 2010, 07:18 PM) The Ms1 doesn't require an amp as it's extremely easy to drive i listen to oldies a lot, so there's a lot of vocal involved. i've considered the sr60 (and the ms1) since there's so much positive reviews for the grado. prob is, they're supra-aural (on the ear) headphones, which i just cant get used to. For a budget of rm400, if you enjoy rock, and don't mind the up front and narrow soundstage, i strongly recommend Ms1 Added on January 1, 2010, 8:07 pmhmm, decided that i might just give the grados and alessandros a try. really like the old-skool look even though it's supra-aural. @duh2k: i'm pretty much a noob in this section... when u say up front and narrow soundstage, does it mean that it feels as if the band is playing very close right in front of me? sort of like listening to a small speaker which is very close in front me? sorry for the noob question.. QUOTE(moniqee @ Jan 1 2010, 08:22 PM) ohh.. thanks for the explanation! oh, another question, what's the difference between ms1 and ms1i? is it just the looks? cos i heard they use the same driver (from the grado sr125i)... |

QUOTE(moniqee @ Jan 1 2010, 10:19 PM) oh... there's no Ms1 liao... only Ms1i i believe... ^^ if u wan cheaper.. look for 2nd hand at garage sales... ^^ i believe got ppl selling Ms1... ohh.. i thought walabies still selling the ms1 in his thread... haih, now really hard to choose between these two.. ms1 and sr60i... of course the ms1 seems like the ideal choice, but budget is kinda tight... anyway, i'll take a look at the audio-technica headphones u mentioned. thanks for ur help guys! -edit- after a bit of researching (googling), it seems that the AD300 is a pretty good choice too... slightly cheaper than the sr60i. soundstage and comfort dont seem to be an issue like the sr60i or the ms1. but i cant find any reviews for the ad400 though... well... i think it's decided then... i'll go for the AD300 for the time being. QUOTE(moniqee @ Jan 2 2010, 07:56 AM) ops... i forgot Ath headphone sudah naik harga... AD300 is RM280 according to akabane@jackal's thread.... ^^ u can also try pming walabies... ^^ waaahhh... naik banyak pulak tu... hmm, either way, rm280 is not that expensive. now waiting for walabies' pm. umm, i have another question for everyone. According to most websites, open-air headphones should provide a very good soundstage. Wide soundstage with good separation of the instruments. that's what they say with the AD300. However, this does not seem to be the case with the grados and alessandros. They're famous for their open-air headphones, yet they're also famous for the narrow soundstage. Is it because of the size of the cans? i mean, their headphones aren't as big as full-sized headphones, thus the narrow soundstage? |

QUOTE(duh2k @ Jan 2 2010, 04:16 PM) well, open back cans have better soundstage as compared to their closed backed brethren (we're talking same models here) .... but open back =/= big soundstage....soundstage also depends on the headphone ohh... meaning the open back cans do have a wider soundstage compared to similar closed back cans... so i guess if there is a closed back grado, the soundstage would be even narrower... hmm, u're pretty good at explaining. i always get confused by audiophile terms. hahaha i think the sifu's here can give a more detailed explanation as to what gives a pair of cans an awesome soundstage QUOTE(Kernkraft400 @ Jan 2 2010, 04:39 PM) One question, would it be weird to see a person on the subway with Alessandro's MS1i listening to his music? :S naah, not weird at all. they look pretty cool actually. but not sure if people nearby would appreciate ur taste in music. if i saw someone with an alessandro in a subway, i would think "damn, those cans are really sweet. wish i could have one. but why is he listening to kris allen?" (it's just an example, i have nothing against kris allen.. Added on January 2, 2010, 10:36 pm-just wanna add, it would only be unbearably annoying if u sing along to the music. if u dont, i dont think anyone would actually care. at least i dont. QUOTE(DarthMaus @ Jan 2 2010, 11:25 PM) i tried using my ms1i on a bus before... the aunty just jealous lah... 1.can hear everything "outside" very clearly, therefore, turn up volume a bit 2.then... an aunty, 2 rows behind me goes... 3.i kwai kwai go to sleep also lor... umm, i guess it is quite disturbing to some people... some people mind , some people dont. it's such a shame that this minor flaw causes some people to look into other brands. anyway, between the MS1i and the AD700, which one would u prefer for mainly music listening? (not that i can afford the ad700, but i'll just think of it as the ad300's bigger bro) @Kernkraft400: PL21 is an IEM. So i guess u can cross it out from ur list. but of course with IEMs, sound leakage wouldnt be an issue. This post has been edited by danny_sp15: Jan 3 2010, 02:23 AM |

QUOTE(DarthMaus @ Jan 4 2010, 06:14 PM) ultimately, trust ur own ears. taste differs anyway. reviews are excellent for a guide but take everything with a pinch of salt i know... but i dunno where can i test all of the cans.. even the pair i'm planning to buy is from online.. anyway, i did try to find various sources of reviews for the AD300, AD400, AD500, AD700, grados and alessandros. Even tried to find reviews comparing the different brands. And i try to relate the reviews to my music taste, and what sort of accessories i have (amps, soundcard, etc, none of which i have). and it seems that the AD500 is the best bet for my budget. maybe i can borrow ur AD700 and MS1i, and bro Wingster's AD500 This post has been edited by danny_sp15: Jan 4 2010, 08:03 PM |
