Hmm... guys, a noob question here if u dont mind... which will improve a headphone the most (assuming similar price and performance): Amp, DAC or soundcard?

my source are mostly FLAC, or lossless WMA. Only some hard to find songs are in MP3s 192-320kbps (lame). is it ok? i'm only using onboard soundcard though... the best i can afford currently is probably a Fiio E5 (even then i'd have to delay paying my college fees)

should be upgraditis... upgraditits sound a bit... u know...

what's interesting? i dont get it... hahaha. anyway, just a general question bro, between IEMs and headphones, which one would u prefer for music listening? i'm not talking about comfort, portability, etc. but purely sound quality. just wanna know ur opinion..

topup a bit and u can get urself an Audio-Technica AD500. Wide soundstage means it's going to perform well in those aspects u mentioned, particularly gaming and movies, and instrumental/classical music if that's ur thing...
if cannot topup budget a bit, then get the AD400 instead.

Added on January 27, 2010, 3:07 pmwent to sri comp at lyp a few days ago. they have a few AT models for auditioning, but u need to bring ur own music source. choices aren't that much though... only some low and mid-end models... M30, PRO5 MS, etc... no AD series...

Harvey Norman sometimes have rare cans for auditions... the last time i went to Harvey Norman at Ikano, they have Beats by Dr Dre on audition. and some philips, etc...
anyway, Sri Comp's price for AT cans are slightly more expensive than the ones u can buy from the forummers here... cannot remember exactly the price, but i do remember it's a bit more expensive...

Huhu... nevermind... this AD500 is actually a birthday present from my gf... cannot simply sell wan... besides, i like AD500's colour better. AD700 colour combination is a bit weird. Actually wanted to get the AD400, but then found out that AD500's driver is same size as AD700, but not as expensive as the AD700. That, plus some poison from u and everyone else at AT thread, lead me to the AD500... My poor AD500 still doesnt have a stand.. wonder when can do bulk for the stainless steel stand...

anyway, to those who want to buy the AD500, dont think much and just get one! Comfort would never be an issue. It's easier than wearing a hat. And soundstage is excellent. I'm using onboard sound, and i can shoot zombies without even seeing them. (cross fingers... wanna get free earphone too... >_<")

yeah, the velvet pads do seem to attract some dust compared to leather pads.. but they're not that hard to clean actually... just wipe the dusts lightly with ur fingers, and it'll be good as new. anyway... i use my cans quite often, so storing them in a case would be quite troublesome... besides, with stands, can show off and poison my frens....

U oso wanna get free earphone is it? hehe. anyway, cannot get the AD900 la... too expensive, kesian my gf...

Nope, no need to bring ur own source. It's already connected to a source, but not sure what kind of source though. probably songs related to Dr Dre...
not sure if u can plug out the jack from the source and connect to ur own source... since it's selling for RM1K++ if i'm not mistaken... THAT PRICE CAN BUY AN ATH-ESW9 ALREADY.... (super-duper bodek)

must compete with moniqee... cannot let her get all the free stuff by herself... anyway, fyi, only the Beats are plugged in to their own source. Other cans, mostly philips, are just dangling on the wall. they do provide cd players mounted on the wall if u wanna test the cans, but dunno if it works or not, seems like very old already. better bring ur own source. i didnt get the chance to try the Beats, cos salespersons always keep an eye on the expensive cans... segan mau try... especially when u're walking around wearing slippers...
do note that it's not available at all harvey-norman outlets. if u go to harvey-norman sunway, they have lots of Altec speakers, but very few cans. either they dont have any, or i couldnt find them..

@Fred86: maybe i'll try to find a zip lock case for my cans too, in case i'm bringing them anywhere. but in the room, definitely stands!

hey guys, i'm considering an upgrade in the next few weeks (or months)... currently aiming at the Alessandro MS1i... i already have an AD500 for soundstage and comfort... so now i'm aiming for something which really shines on the mids... the vocals... and hopefully something which is easy to drive, and sounds great when plugged in directly to my onboard desktop audio.. do u guys have any other suggestions for a budget of RM400+? bass isnt my priority... and i'm listening to rock and vocals... thanks in advance!

well.. yeah.. when i listen to rock, i focus on the mids and highs... bass gives me headaches after a while...

well... i think so... they're excellent with the mids, but the soundstage is pretty much lacking, giving it the 'grado sound' or something like that...

that's why la... even after getting the AD500, i always keep thinking about the alessandro ms1i... i just feel that i must have one, or else my life wouldn't be complete... but u know, just wondering if u guys have any other poison for me...

a bit? the ms2 costs almost 3 times as much as the ms1i... huhu... unless moniqee wants to sponsor la... but i really like the metallic look on the ms2... huhu... hmm... this time moniqee didnt suggest an ATH headphone... dont wanna be ATH spokesperson anymore is it?

waaa... i also want the w1000... but my budget around rm400++ only... if possible i want to change the ms1i's grille to a stainless steel one... like ms2's grille... but hard to find someone who can do it... huhu... i dont mind the stock cables... anyway, thanks sis! and also thanks everyone for ur suggestion! now will save up for the ms1i

nope. havent listened to ms1i before. but read a lot of reviews regarding the headphone though.. later when i get the headphone i will compare to the ad500... hopefully in just a few weeks la.. hehe..

huhu... dont have time for TT... schedule is seriously packed... but i dont think i will regret buying this one... hopefully...

if it doesnt suit my sound sig, then i will adjust my sound sig to suit the ms1... hahaha

yeah, that's why i'm really interested with the ms1... when i bought the ad500, soundstage was impressive, but then i realised that soundstage only matters 60% of the time i'm using the headphone... usually songs with lots of instruments, games and movies... so the other 40% i'm going to use the ms1i, where mids / vocals are more important than soundstage...

@moniqee: yay! another thing we have in common. hmm, people always invite u to TT cos they dont have enough leng lui... i dont get much that much invitation... no demand for leng chai nowadays... huhu...
