Hi everyone! Happy new year!

I just got a female MS... and guess what... really naughty... = ="
I dont remember having this much problem when i raised my miniature pincher last time.

I'm actually very interested with gatherings coz i want my MS to socialize a little bit. Dont want to repeat the same mistake i did with my Min Pincher.

Hi puddy cat smile.gif

the brownish stain appears when the coat is left wet often. That is why, i dont let my MS drink from a bowl, but use a feeding bottle (mine's got a white beard)

Leaving the coat wet often is also not a good idea coz ms are prone to skin problems. Infact, i blow dry my pup after every bath.

It usually goes away after bath, but if the stain is too stubborn... there's some formulas you can get from the pet shop to remove the brown stains. I've never used them before because the brown stains are manageable for my pup, but i did ask my vet about it

Hey... that's a lovely fellow you have there itsClois biggrin.gif

btw did you ask your breeder? if i'm not mistaken, white schnauzers have a variety. Some even after all the brown hair fade off, the white colour wont be pure white, but beige in color.

I'm not too sure as i only heard from ppl, never experience it my own. Maybe someone that own a white MS can help to clear your doubts. I'm sure there's quite a number of ppl here own a white color ms.

If not, i'll ask my regular pet shop owner about it for you (i'm going there, probably on saturday), she owns a white ms which she imported from Taiwan, so i'm sure she should be able to give some advice smile.gif

Actually the white MS i have seen and like are pure white , like a Westie !!! i kind of like that but pretty pricey

Friend has a salt and pepper. Over the years , it has turned greyish white !!!!! the fur has strands of darker grey fur interspersed in between the white fur.

it looks like the hair of a man who is turning white but not fully white yet
*
could the discoloration be caused by the food? Because i heard from a pet shop owner that there are customers who complain about their MS discoloring when they eat certain type of dog food.

Err...from what I know and read, white Min. Schnauzers simply mean that: all white. laugh.gif If the pup is beige in color, I don't think it's called a white Schnauzer anymore...more like a very light-toned salt and pepper color. Some unethical breeders do that, claiming that the dog is white when it is actually a salt and pepper color. Also beware of breeders that claim white Schnauzers have certs. White Min. Schnauzers are not recognised as yet in Malaysia...from what I've heard, these breeders will get the certs stating that the pup is a 'salt and pepper' just so they can jack up the price.
*
oic... thx for the info thumbup.gif
But how to differentiate? after all the pups dont necessarily turn out white from birth. Also, not all pet shops nowadays are trustworthy and reliable.

Besides, i would'nt want to exchange a pup i bought just because he's the wrong color (supposing the breeder allows it)... best to be able to spot the difference from the beginning.

I don't know about differentiating white Schnauzers, as I'm not a breeder nor am I a person who shows Schnauzers. I guess it IS hard to tell whether a pup would be a pure white Schnauzer...unless both parents are pure white too. In that case, the possibility of having pure white pups would be higher. I wouldn't trust pet shops at all as a lot pet shop workers really don't have a clue as to how to care for a dog, let alone know how to differentiate what's a good trait or otherwise. You would be better off buying from reputable breeders who can show you the parent(s) of the pups as the parents are a good indicator of what the pup might turn out when they grow up (looks and temperament).

But still, if you intend to show, there's no point getting a pure white Schnauzer as white is considered a fault. It is still not recognized as a color for show Schnauzers in quite a few countries. But as you say, if you want to have a dog just as a pet dog, then color shouldn't be a matter I guess...smile.gif What matters is that you already liked the pup when you saw it (maybe for its temperament or personality), not because of the color.
*
Nope, i dont intend to show tongue.gif Just curious only, and also for knowledge in case i want to buy a white schnauzer in the future
Frankly speaking, i love all the colours (white included). I have a salt n pepper pup now. After i graduate, i plan to get another one (maybe a pure black one first), coz i just cant afford to keep more than 1 schnauzer at the moment sweat.gif

guys, need help..
where can i get yogi pet pee tray big in msia?
very difficult to find..even on ebay..

sg got 1 website doggiefriend.com is selling it but they onli do delivery to msia for purchase above SD100$ =.="
*
in malaysia also have... but not the yogi pet pee tray la... it's similar in function (as a pee try), but not as convenient. The one i saw in malaysia is kind of small... and you cannot just buy 2 units and fix it together like the yogi pet pee tray 1. However, if your dog is a small breed and FEMALE, then should be ok i guess.

you can buy that 1... or...

you can get a few friends that are interested in buying some items from the website and combine bill so that can reach sd$100

or... you can use a wee wee pad with tray

I'm using wee wee pads for my pup too... but without the tray lol!
Like Jenny said.... it works... smile.gif

after a week, she knows how to pee... in 2 weeks she knows how to poo. Really happy except on certain occasions when she get's too excited, she'll poo somewhere else sad.gif
but, at 3 months, she's still a baby, so it's excusable... haha

anyone know any professional trainer or where can i toilet train my MS....? as i'm difficult to toilet my little MS...  T.T
*
MS are relatively easier to toilet train, my pup knows where to pee after 2 week... compared to my miniature pincher, which took about 1+ month. Toilet training is hard work, i must admit that. I lost lots of sleep during the first week coz i just don't know her habits yet, and always on the look out.

Maybe you'd want to read up on some tips on how to toilet train a miniature schnauzer... i believe they are really stubborn and need loads of praise when they do it right. Try to train up pup urself first before seeking help... i feel that during this training time is when the bonding between the pup and you happens... surely you would'nt want to miss that.

For example, i'm the one training the pup which is probably why she's closer to me compared to my parents and bro.

Here's a story for you guys to laugh about...
I usually let go my pup (Tashi) in the house during the evening... but there was one occasion when i didn't know that she poop in the hall until the next day, coz when i let her go again the following day... i saw her pick up something (with her mouth) and went to her wee wee pad, then she drop the poop there = =" I didn't know if i should scold her or not... so i pretend i never see it lol...

Hi , Max has been vomitting 4-5 kibbles for the past few days . Other than that he is perfectly alright. Poop is firm

What shall I do ? Soak the kibbles ?
*
How much are you feeding him? Did you increase the food amount in the last few days?
Maybe the amount is just too much for him to take in at once, especially if he's a puppy.
If you soak the kibbles, his beard is going to get dirty... i tried it before, not a very pleasant experience

QUOTE(Aeiou11 @ Jan 29 2010, 10:47 PM)
My miniature schnauzer had seizure/epilepsy few weeks ago. It was during last week that the vet told my family that it was epilepsy, when they told the vet about his condition. I was so shocked when I knew it just now because I've never thought that epilepsy can happen in dogs as well. The worst is the vet said he can't do anything. No medication or prevention. If epilepsy happens again, we can only pray that my dog himself recover. Whether he can survive, it depends on my dog himself. And epilepsy might cause death. This really make me worried so much now. It will be so horrible that we can only see my dog suffering while we can't do anything, if epilepsy happens again. He is still very young. I'm not prepared to lose him.

If anyone has more information or advice about this kind of disease, please do tell me. Your help will be much appreciated.
*
I think pure breed dogs have higher chance of getting health problems compared to mixed/mongrels. Maybe it's because of generations of interbreeding which caused this. It also depends on what type of epilepsy it is... hopefully it's something external that caused your dog to react to it with a seizure... however, if it's genetic, then it's best to spay/neuter ur dog to avoid the genes from being passed down... for the sake of min schnauzers.

There is no medication for prevention... but there are medication to manage epilepsy. If managed properly, ur dog can live a very normal and happy life with you and your family. Don't give up smile.gif

Hi, miniature schnauzer lover.

If you willing to give away a small pup miniature schnauzer to me, please do pm me. My friend is looking for it but she unable to afford to buy it. I am helping her to find 1 to accompany her.

Thank you for reading my post. I really appreciate your time.
*
No offence, but frankly speaking... maintaining the dog itself would cost your friend a minimum of rm2k a year (excluding the first year)... if she's lucky. From the moment she take the puppy home, she'll need to ready 1k to buy food, bedding, treats, toys, vet visits, vaccination, heartworm medication, cage, wee wee pad (if use), certain accessories, grooming.

Also, MS are prone to allergies which means she can't just go to giant and buy alpo. For example, my MS is allergic to beef, chicken and LAMB! which means, i can only feed her salmon, which is a pain in the arse coz i'm allergic to seafood... so when ever my MS licks my hand i get a rash.

Grooming is not a luxury for MS... It's a necessity... especially when it's so hot at certain time of the year... an ungroomed MS will suffer sad.gif and their hair grow fairly fast!

Just thought i'll give you a warning before your friend brings back an MS... However, it doesn't mean she cant keep a dog, coz there are many other lovable breed out there which need less maintainance and time compared to an MS... smile.gif

Hey guys, I really lovre MS and I'm currently looking for one to keep as my pet. I have a long hair dashund which belongs to my mother. I used to own another short hair dashund before this but it was lost while we were away for a holiday (the boarding place lost her  cry.gif ). Its been 2 years now and I'm ready to have another dog.

I've been to some home breeders and some pet shops to lookout for 1. I saw 1 @ Ikano several months back which i fell in love with but wasn't ready to have 1 then as my house was still under renovation. My house is ready now and I hope u guys who knows a good breeder or seen MS being sold @ pet shops to inform me.

I'd love to have a male, salt & pepper / black & silver colour MS. On the ears, I'm still favouring the uncropped ones as I think its quite cruel (my personal opinion). However, if its already done and I happen to love the dog, I wun mind as well. Hope u guys/gals can help me.

Thx!
*
Hi! Glad to have another MS lover around biggrin.gif
So sry about your loss... although it's been 2 years, it must still be sad sad.gif

Good luck in finding an MS puppy that you'll feel connected with! I was lucky to find mine smile.gif No need to rush, after all, once bought you'll have him for his whole life! tongue.gif

Anyway, i'll keep my eye open, if i c any MS puppy that you may like i'll tell u about it smile.gif

edit: Also, would be great to get your new pup from a responsible breeder... would'nt want more ppl encouraging puppy mills.

When I read your reply, I found it hard to believer !! Guess I spoke too soon .

I trained Max to "lie down" using the "click n treat" method yesterday and my right palm (which i used to feed him) turn red n started to itch. Guess I am allergic to his saliva as well
*
Trust me, sometimes i find it hard to believe it myself shakehead.gif
The reason why i got an MS (besides bcos it's cute) is bcos it's a hypoallergenic dog... Well, i'm nt allergic to the dog, but to her food doh.gif

I was supposed to feed her lamb, but she started scratching after i gave her some lamb treats... Although i'm not too sure if she's allergic to the lamb, i stopped it. Now her itching has stopped as well. Maybe when she's older i'll try to introduce lamb to her diet again and see if it's real allergy or not.

Usually, i'm fine when playing with her... on worst days i'll just take an antihistamine tablet so that i don't scratch my skin off lol!

Hi there! Thx a lot for your reply and your help to lookout for the MS. On my beloved dashund, Sammi, I still miss her very VERY much. Secretly in me, I still wish she'd come back home 1 day or at the very least, she's well taken care by a new family who loves her.

Back to MS, I have no idea who are the reputable breeders around klang valley. Been to a few "home" ones but didn't pick any cause they dun have a suitable one for me (I was looking for a male and they only had female). Also, connection with the dog is also very important when picking a new dog for me. Saw another MS @ Ikano the other day but somehow, just didn't have the "connection" with him.

Anyway, I hope you guys can direct me to a site or url or place where I can know who, around Klang Valley are the reputable breeders. Even all the pet shops claim to be breeders these days. One question, the one at Ikano, are they sellers only or breeders as well?

Cheers! Looking forward to getting my MS soon and joining u guys for gatherings (of course after he is fully vac.)

P/S: Btw, during your gatherings, do u guys accept other dogs as well as I dun like leaving my furry dashund (Jack jack) at home while bringing my MS out. My gf also have a toy poodle too.

Hi again! biggrin.gif
Just wanted to let you know i saw an adult male MS up for adoption in the 'adoption thread'. It would be great if you like him laugh.gif

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/443156/+700

They didn't state the reason for putting the dog for adoption, but he did mention he wants to let go of them quick. I know you may prefer to buy a new puppy from a pet store, but i thought i'd let you know about this 'soon to be homeless' MS first icon_question.gif

I would have loved to bring him home myself, but I already have 2 dogs at home, and my MS is still a puppy... plus, i'm still a student, 2 MS will burn a huge hole in my purse cry.gif

jason86,

I never mentioned about having a MS for free. Maybe U've mistaken me for another member here. I've been on a lookout at many pet shops and I have no problems with a budget for my new puppy when I bring 1 home. So far, the price range for a MS puppy is approx RM 1400 - 1800.

On the one being put up for adoption, yes, I do prefer to have a new pup to have a new start to everything but I will have a look nevertheless. Who knows if the MS is fated to be with me?

Cheers all!
*
Hey that's great! Hope there's instant chemistry between to two of you! Don't be too hard on urself if you decide nt to adopt him, atleast you gave him a try thumbup.gif

Btw, i saw a male MS puppy, salt n pepper uncropped ears in Pets4u Puchong. Unfortunately, he's already sold, but i'm sure they will be bringing in a new MS puppy soon. Mayb you can check out the petshop and give them ur contact number so they'll call you when a new pup shows up. I usually do my doggy groceries there, the puppies look healthy and clean, plus the ppl there are really friendly and genuinely love animals. Also, i get alot of advice on caring for my MS coz they are MS owners too!

Good luck!

i oso heard the color will influence the price...how bout the size of the puppy? the smaller size the more expensive? coz i see a pet shop selling a black n silver MS at rm1800 and a salt n pepper MS at rm1600, i asked y the price different, the pet shop supervisor answer coz the salt n pepper MS in the shop has bigger size....  unsure.gif
*
when you say size... u mean age?
A MS is a MS... it's size is already according to the breed standard. As long as the size of the MS is within the range as stated in the Kennel club, there shouldn't be any difference in price... But of course, this is Malaysia... n the ppl will find any reason just to jack up the price of the puppy... no offence.

Color will influence the price... standard colors black, salt n pep, black n silver have different price but shouldn't be too much of a difference. However, white MS if i'm nt mistaken are mostly imported from Taiwan, so, they are much more expensive.

Color does play a role in determining the price of the pups. I think it's because of all the work the breeder has to go through when he's planning to allow his dogs to mate. Wanting a certain color puppy would require a certain type of colored parent. For example, black n silver puppies can only be produced if both parents are black n silver.

Salt n pepper is the typical color for a MS... the most common. The up side of having a salt n pepper pup is it doesn't really matter if the color fades a little, as it's not too obvious and it's acceptable. I think some ppl would prefer salt n pepper, maybe because it looks more original to a schnauzer... after all, black n silver color probably comes from the min pincher gene. Also because you wouldn't have to worry if the solid black MS will have discoloration when he's older, can't really tell for sure while he's a puppy.

Anyway, it's all personal preference. To me, I don't care if my puppy fades to white or chocolate when she grows up (provided it's not due to health issues). All i care is i love her very much. As long as i don't breed them, i don't pollute the gene pool... so, i have no problem taking in the 'odd-ies' rclxm9.gif

In short... Just pick the puppy which u fell in love with. lol! tongue.gif

Thanks for advice.... Regarding supporting MS life, it would not be a problem because I am helping her to take care.

My friend just does not like the idea of buying expensive dog for pet because of some reason and I can't explain it... =_=''
*
Yeah... i understand that. My dad is like that too.... even when i bought my MS he can't seem to understand why i need to buy an expensive dog when plenty of them is on death row in the pound cry.gif poor dogs...

Anyway, i don't think you'll be able to get a puppy here, coz the types of owners here,

1) breed, sell off the first litter, then spay during surgery
2) don't want to breed at all.
3) alien, dont agree with either option 1 or 2

Your best bet would be to ask a close friend who happens to have a pair of MS, maybe he/she may give you one when a litter is produced... though i don't really encourage ppl breeding their own dogs unsure.gif giving away puppies means taking away a good home for a homeless dog in the shelter.

You can also try to wait n c if there's any MS for adoption. In fact, a few days ago, someone put his male MS for adoption. I'm not sure if it's still available but you can check it out.
