Strong lineup that, minus Anderson and Giggs who are both on form, but in Fletcher-Scholes in the center is good with them also on very good form. Valencia has looked threatening whenever he gets a chance and Nani hopefully will play better than against Wolves.

Go there and click on the match we play that day. Refresh the last page of that matchday thread around 40-20mins before the game. They usually would tell then.

QUOTE(davidlow7 @ Sep 26 2009, 08:50 PM)
I am beginning to see Berba taking more chances to score goals.

As you see... Ronaldo is not here the game play is totally different. Berba is given higher opportunity to act as a striker and score goals... I am sure he can make it..

Owen will be a threat in the box... replacing Ruud..

We did not have a real threat inside the box after Ruud left.. now Owen is..
*
It's all about Rooney these days to be that man(although not like for like just waiting inside the box for a chance) ever since Tevez and Berba came into the picture. He showed flashes of his brilliance there being really good at getting behind defenders and into great goal scoring positions all the time, just that his form can't keep up and he's only able to show it in patches. He's been great for England over the last year or so, and seems to start the season really well. Let's hope he can keep that up this time and finally show his prowess in front of goal consistently. His finishing is superb IMO when he's on that kind of run. Just need to hold onto it longer and more frequent compare to previous seasons.

Valencia has done pretty well IMO being a new guy at the club. Always threatening even though he's not that effective right now. He gives us genuine width and will always try to cross the ball in. He's not shining as much as at Wigan because he's not the main man anymore like when he was there. And he's new with us, will take a while for him to gel with the rest. But he just need to be that traditional winger, and everything will take care of itself. Just need to improve his overall game a bit.

mm..SAF should atleast give him start the game leerr

With Fletcher and Scholes in great form, + Ando and Giggs in form as well, it's hard for him to get games. Up to him to win a place back when he gets his next chance.

QUOTE(IcyDarling @ Sep 26 2009, 09:56 PM)
he's not on form i guess...

btw, is carrick having personal problems? He seems unhappy to me, and the way he move around the field suggest that he is not in the mood
*
Don't think so. Just a normal player struggling for form. Look at Ronaldo early last season. He was struggling with his form and was easily frustrated on the pitch in most games. Same thing Carrick is going through I guess. All players go through these spells where they just can't seem to do things right. Nani, Ando(until late last season), Scholes last season weren't in form.

anyways, its good that we are on top again. am i the only one who would like to see owen in the starting line up? against a respectable team that is. am i?
*
It's not that I don't want him to play, but Rooney is a must, and Berba too is important in the way we play. With him we stand a better chance of holding onto the ball better IMO.

QUOTE(davidlow7 @ Sep 27 2009, 01:31 AM)
Nani needs to become a team player more...

Once he learns that he will be good...
*
He need a run of games. He was starting the season well I thought although he wasn't spectacular always, but it was an improvement from last season and on his way to recapture the form of his first season. But SAF rotate the squad him along with the other wingers giving them bench time etc, and he's suffered. Now he's back to his frustrating self. He just need to simplify his game like Ronaldo did after that WC incident with Rooney. I won't lose faith in him yet though even if he doesn't turn it on consistently this season, although that would mean we would suffer a bit.

Foster seems fine today. Wasn't tested much, but dealt with everything thrown at him, although he had one nervy kick.. but it got out of harms way. Showing his mental strength again bouncing from a bad game. He did fine after his shaky start against Chelsea until that City game, and seems to be fine against Stoke. Hope he can keep this up. Really looking the part IMO.

And I have to say, if Scholes was shown a 2nd yellow there for his handball, it would have been harsh IMO. We can see lots of incidents where the ref didn't give anything other than a freekick/penalty unless it was an obvious one, or stopping a goal chance. What do you guys think about that? I was worried though, I thought he would have gone straight away seeing our luck over the years with referee regarding giving our players the 2nd yellow.

Ronaldo did it a few times if I'm not mistaken, and Rooney last season against Fulham.. the ref is quick to show them that..

And yet again, it is proven beyond doubt that NANI is not a good player for MU standard...!!
he doesn't pass the ball because he don't have the Football Sense and intelligence !!

when he got the ball, all that he is thinking of  " i want to be hero and dribble pass 10 players and score a spectacular goal !"

And pls stop your bullsh1t about Nani not having enough game and stuff....
he has been given enough chances ....
SAF should just sell off NANI, give others player a chance and move on...!!!
*
He didn't have a good game admittedly, but not many did in that game. Valencia and Rooney were ineffective I thought. Berba wasn't doing much either. It was just that type of game where the opposition had men behind the ball most of the time.

Who's to say he won't have a good game next time he plays and keep that up? It's not like he didn't show any potential.. in his first season he was very good I thought. One of our highest assister.. since then things haven't quite work out, but we look at things 2-3 years ahead, not just on the now of things. Ronaldo took 4 seasons to become the player we know today. Nani is just starting his third season for us. Give it time eh? I'm sure you had doubts about Fletcher too back then. Good to see our fans don't learn a thing about being patient our players, young ones especially. Keep up the good work because I would love to see you guys being proven wrong, yet again.

Added on September 27, 2009, 3:10 amHe's only 22.. players took different times to mature the player they suppose to be. Not everyone is special like a Rooney, Ronaldo or Messi who can make a consistent impact straight away only a few years after their break through. Most players take a while. And even Ronaldo took 4 seasons to become consistent in his game for us. It's when around 25 they get that consistency in their game that would stamp their mark on the team in almost every game. Fletcher showed just that. Shit initially.. for a few seasons in fact, and only showing up once in a while to show that he has something in him. That's what young players tend to do, until they mature and become more confident in their ability and game which would bring along consistency in their game. You can critise of course, that's what fans are supposed to do if they see a bad play/game, whatever it is. But look at the bigger picture, and not just what you see today. Be a bit patient, because if we look back, not everybody become a world beater at 22.

berba wasn't doing much?
did u even watch the match?
did u c his touches and passes that open up play????

what do u expect? hat trick everytime from him???

at least he didn't make any wayward passes and lost crucial possession like that NANi did...
Nani can't even make a decent cross!

and NO! Ronaldo doesn't took 4 season to shine... in fact from the very first game, we can c his potential......and he is bound to be a great player
*
Look who's talking. whistling.gif You were the one expecting a young player to play like a freaking world class player. Did I say anything bad about it? All I said is that he didn't do that much in that game. A player can have an average game too even if he scored. He does a lot better in normal games that he plays in which he didn't score. Tonight he didn't show much. But I'm not blaming him for that. It was just that type of game where not a lot shine.

Wake up sunny boy. Not everyone is a Ronaldo who's special from day one. But still he wasn't that great initially. He was good, only in patches and there was a lot of games where he didn't contribute other than running down blind alleys all the time. Where did you think that one trick pony stuff about him came from? Besides if we judge every young winger to a Ronaldo, we won't find anyone able to become a regular for us there other than buying establish stars which we won't even get as good as Ronaldo.

I would agree on Ronaldo's part

Fergie did not expect to play him straight away when he came here.

Even commentator said that.. but somehow he shine... suddenly... ..

The boy was great
*
It was only after that WC incident where he got consistent. Before that he was inconsistent as hell. One game he was great, the next he couldn't do anything other than going past one defender, and that's all he does all game long.

This is where I'm coming from. You guys are expecting another Ronaldo who straight away showed he was great which is ridiculous. We are really spoiled by Ronaldo and Rooney was both were child prodigies. Nani showed he was gonna be a very good winger for us providing goals for our players in his first season. Why can't everyone see that, and have a bit of hope he'll be consistent for us in the future? Fletcher showed players do improve..

Added on September 27, 2009, 3:30 amRonaldo did took 4 seasons though to get to where he is today. I never once said he was a shit little player before that oh the great one. Still think Fletcher is shit eh?

Added on September 27, 2009, 3:47 amI understand you being frustrated by him. He did have a shit game. But to claim he's not a good player for our standard is a bit too much. Like I said, being a fan of our team, and seeing so many players over the years turning it around, should tell anyone with a bit of brain to take a step back when judging young players. If you want to give criticism about him, go on ahead.. that's acceptable. That's what we do. We judge things after they play on the pitch. If we see them playing shit, we say they had a shit game. Simple as.

But don't come here blabing about you having a freaking magic ball that you can predict the future and say he's not good enough for us saying as though he won't improve an inch. God. He's fecking 23 years old playing for the best team in the world. Having join us only 3 seasons back, where he was what 21 and becoming the top assister in our team then. If he wasn't good enough, he wouldn't manage that amount of tally. All I say is hold that mouth of yours, or your hand rather in this case. Give it a bit more time. I'm sure he can turn this around.. although whether he does that is another matter.

He really is frustrating. He need to play. He won't ever improve that consistency of his if we keep rotating him around between playing and spending time on the bench. He just need to use that brain of his better, like in his first season where he was better although still inconsistent. He really need to just do it, rather than play around all the time.. that stop start dribbling of his. Just do like Valencia does.. at least he's managed to consistently cross the ball into the box unlike Nani who struggles a bit when his trick doesn't work. Simplify things Nani! For god's sake. It can't be that hard to just run and cross now and then.

It's still too early in the season anyway to make any sort of conclusions. Judge what they do on the pitch, but wait for half a season or more before judging their contribution to the team, or their worth to the team. Carrick doesn't look like a 16m player right now.

Valencia is still new. So it's forgiven. But wait 6 months, the knife will be out. Won't be long before people complain about him not being anywhere near as good as Ronaldo was for us if he doesn't perform next few months. Typical nature. We expect success almost straight away. sweat.gif

QUOTE(Mayomythical @ Sep 27 2009, 02:58 PM)
No complaints on the Stoke match. The players got the job done.

However, I agree that Nani is making all the wrong decisions, and remains the most frustrating player in the squad for me. In flashes, Nani has shown he has the ability. It's the consistency that is the problem. Hopefully with Ronnie gone, he will get a run of games that will help hem get that.

By the way, Fletch has improved because he's now playing centre midfield. His crappy days was when he was playing wide right. I used to groan out loud whenever I saw Ferguson playing that way.

Also, since when has Evra ever been a fringe player??
*
Even when playing centrally just a few seasons back, Fletcher's form fluctuates. Good-very good against the big teams, but generally against the smaller teams he never really perform in most games. He was average-decent in most. He just wasn't able to stamp his mark and look almost scared to play forward passes too much. Even me, one of his loyal defenders in here over the years thought he would probably have gone after Anderson came and conquer that midfield in his first season, and with Possesbon showing potential there that season. After that Fletcher really stepped up and became a regular for us there. Right now we can't do without him in the big games. It can change easily in a few months/just a few seasons. So I say let's wait till it's a foregone conclusion that someone won't make it here.

Added on September 27, 2009, 5:38 pmBtw, did anyone else think Giggsy would play as well as he has on the wings ever again after seeing him more centrally over the last few seasons? I really thought his time was over there. In fact, last season he hardly plays there right. But this season somehow he became our best winger so far.. and he's 35 years old. Most wingers his age would have retired by now.

VDS in goal, 39.
Scholes in midfield.. still our best midfielder, 34.
Giggs, 35 still the wizard for us on the wings.

well i think it's sometimes frustrating to watch him play. he often takes too much time on the ball and wastes alot of opportunity.
there are many times where he could thread the pass or just simply take the shot for himself, but he just holds on to the ball.
maybe he lacks of confidence or trying too hard who knows.
he just needs to make up his mind better. his style of play is too readable.

well fletcher was kinda crappy two seasons ago. but now he's matured.
i believe nani was crappy two seasons ago. but he's still the same today.
ahaha that is the point. there is no improvement.

well i believe the reason MU is doing so well now is cos the fringe players like fletcher, o'shea and maybe evra has stepped up their game.
now there is no weakness in all the positions of MU.
last time there were excellent players (rooney, ronaldo, scholes maybe?) and the others were abit of the "weak link"
now everyone has stepped up their game and they are a good team all around as a whole.
much much better.
*
Fletcher broke through into the first team at the same time we got Ronaldo. That's 5-6 seasons ago! He was 'shit' until 2 seasons back where he turned it around. Nani is only starting his third..

with valencia adapting to united colour and style having another winger still.. and still growing up i hv to say we dont look good on wing/AMRL department. look like we hv more quantity than quality here..

thank god fletcher really step up and giggs still rock at the age of 35!!
also scholes still hungry for success and suck at tackles  laugh.gif
giggs is the new king for me  notworthy.gif
*
Well, Nani just need to tick that consistency box every single time he steps up on the pitch. Right now he forgot to do that before each game, that's why you see him like that. He's quality no doubt.
Valencia is adapting, but he's very good. With him in the side, we won't have to worry about our side lacking width. He will always provide that, although his final delivery and play doesn't quite work just yet.
Park we know about. He's now world class, but a very good squad layer.
Giggs is still turning it on at 35, thank god!

And Obertan will be the surprise package.. hopefully. Have high hopes for him.

Darren Fletcher seeks fulfilment in the Champions League with Manchester United
QUOTE
By Mark Ogden
Published: 10:00PM BST 26 Sep 2009

user posted image

Darren Fletcher will probably be tempted to stick his fingers in his ears when the Champions League anthem rings out around Old Trafford before the Group B encounter with Wolfsburg on Wednesday.

By missing last season's final against Barcelona in Rome due to suspension, the Manchester United midfielder ironically became identified as the reason why Sir Alex Ferguson's team failed to defend their trophy in Rome.

Fletcher's stock rose by virtue of the fact that he was sitting in the stands in his club suit, paying a heavy price for his bewildering dismissal for an apparent goal-saving tackle in the semi-final victory over Arsenal.

But his new identity as the player Man United could not do without washed over Fletcher. For the second time in 12 months, a Champions League final was taking place in front of him when he only wanted to be on the pitch.

"I think my reputation has maybe been enhanced a little bit since missing Rome," Fletcher admits. "But I just watched the final from the stand, behind the bench, with the other lads who weren't involved.

"I was just a fan. I felt the team had put a lot of effort in, so let's go and win it. But after the game, walking around the pitch with the other lads, I was gutted.

"A year earlier, I was on the bench in Moscow [when United beat Chelsea] and didn't get on, so I don't feel as though I have won the Champions League.

"Moscow was great, but you want to play in the final. When you don't get on the pitch, you don't feel involved."

At 25, Fletcher is at least consoled by the fact that he will have more opportunities to make it third time lucky in a Champions League final. His emergence as United's leading midfielder in recent months ensures that he will have a key role in helping the team reach Madrid in May.

But how has it happened? Where has this destructive, energetic goal-scoring midfielder come from? Four years ago he had been written off many of the club's supporters and singled out for criticism by Roy Keane during his infamous dissection of a 4-1 defeat at Middlesbrough on MUTV in October, 2005.

The Scot, alongside Wayne Rooney, has emerged as perhaps United's most important player since the summer departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.

He may not dominate the headlines like Rooney or Ronaldo, but United have lost just one of the last 47 games started by Fletcher – a 2-0 defeat at Fulham in March. Barcelona and Burnley both triumphed against United in Fletcher's absence.

As United prepare to face the German champions in their second group game this season, Fletcher is suddenly the man of the moment and he credits much of that to Keane, the man whose criticism could have broken him.

Fletcher said: "On the pitch and in the dressing room, Roy was always fantastic for me. He was constantly reiterating what it means to play for United, what it takes professionally.

"He always used to tell me, 'I get on your back because I want you to do well. If I ignore you, that's when you should be worried'. It is something that has always stuck with me.

"He was constantly there and I learned so much from him. The player I am now, and the way I am off the pitch, my professional levels, has all come from that.

"The biggest thing was the infamous MUTV video, which was really a kick up the backside for everyone. Anything Roy ever said, it was always done to fire you up. He was never going to tiptoe around people or put an arm around your shoulder.

"He used to make comments around the training ground and maybe get a bit annoyed at me because I snapped around at his ankles, but if he did have a go at me, I thought 'right, I'm going to prove you wrong'. That's the reaction he wanted."

Two days after Keane's interview, Fletcher reached his nadir when he was booed off the pitch as United slumped to defeat against Lille in Paris.

"It wasn't easy, but it was character-building stuff," he admits. "I could have gone away and hid and played within myself, but that's not me.

"Don't get me wrong because, at times, it wasn't easy going on to the pitch and being singled out, but you have to learn from it."

When he sat in the main stand of the Olympic Stadium last May, Fletcher was the one player United arguably needed most of all.

Without him, Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi went unshackled as Barca dethroned United with an all-too comfortable 2-0 victory, but Fletcher insists he is more than the 'destroyer' many have labelled him as since Rome.

"I don't want to be pigeonholed as a destroyer," Fletcher said. "The whole idea is to become an all-round midfielder, who can pass the ball, score goals and get the team going.

"I can be a destroyer when we don't have the ball and set a high tempo and be the trigger. When we don't have possession, I'm thinking, 'right, I'm going to be the first one to press and win it back'."

Fletcher's ability to press and harass opponents was best displayed in United's 2-1 victory against Arsenal last month when his second-half performance helped force Arsène Wenger's team into submission.

The tenacity of Fletcher and Michael Carrick prompted Wenger to criticise United's 'anti-football', but Fletcher regards Wenger's comments as a compliment.

He said: "Wenger still hasn't mentioned me by name, he just says 'that player at United'.

"It doesn't bother me one bit, though. I don't know whether he was trying to get referees to pick up on me, but I have always seen myself as a fair player. I'm not dirty. I go to win the ball, but that is part of the game.

"Tackling is part of the game and British football fans love to see that. Winning the ball back and quick transitions are a big part of the game. Maybe you could say that it was a compliment in some respects."

When Wolfsburg visit on Wednesday, they will encounter a United team still finding its feet without Ronaldo.

Replacing Ronaldo, Ferguson has already conceded, is an impossible task, but Fletcher insists that United must move on and prosper without the Portuguese forward.

He said: "The manager has pointed out that Ronaldo has gone and that is a huge goal difference that we need to fill. As players, we all have to rise to the challenge.

"Ronaldo was good for us, but a lot of players sacrificed themselves for Cristiano too. In a lot of games, I'd be asked to play in central midfield but, whenever he went forward, I'd have to get out to the right to cover him.

"Maybe, now we have got back to 4-4-2, where everybody drops back as a four, it gives the midfielders more opportunity to bomb forward.

"I'd like to think I can get double figures this season because, in this team, you are always likely to get chances if you can get into the box."

FOSTER READY TO REPAY FAITH
QUOTE
user posted image

Ben Foster has revealed the debt of gratitude he owes to Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. There was widespread speculation that Foster would be dropped for Saturday's Premier League win at Stoke. Foster was certainly to blame for Manchester City's opening goal in the derby encounter last weekend, while questions were also asked about his dismal efforts to prevent Craig Bellamy scoring the Blues' third equaliser. Yet at the first available opportunity, Ferguson insisted he was sticking with the 26-year-old and was rewarded with a clean sheet as United defeated Stoke 2-0 at the Britannia Stadium to go top for the first time this season.

"I have to say a big thanks to the boss for sticking by me," said Foster. "Last Sunday was great for the team but personally, it was an absolute disaster. "I was gutted afterwards. I was the only one in the changing room with an upside down smile on his face."

The torment continued long into the week as professional and amateur analysts had their say. Foster could have driven himself mad by pouring over every damning word. Instead, he chose to ignore it all.

"I pretty much buried my head in the sand," he said. "I didn't really want to watch the television and there was no way I was reading the papers the next day."

Not that Foster could escape scrutiny. But the assessments that mattered were kept within United's Carrington training complex as goalkeeping coach Eric Steele delivered his withering verdict.

"When we got into training I had to face up to it," he said. "I had to look at the replays, analyse them and learn from them. "The goalkeeping coach has been on at me all week and was really hard on me. But I needed that and I like to think I have learnt from it. "You are going to have those days as a goalkeeper sometimes and you have to keep them to a minimum."

As Foster acknowledges, mental fortitude is one of the major reasons why Edwin van der Sar has lasted so long at the top. Whereas Foster used to look at the battle for a first-team berth with the 39-year-old as purely an assessment of their relative abilities, now he realises it is much more. Van der Sar makes mistakes like everybody else. His big advantage is not being affected by them.

"The more you play the more concentration and consistency you develop," he said. "Edwin is a typical example of Mr Cool. He is a fantastic professional and he is someone I want to emulate at Manchester United. "He is exactly what I am aiming to be for years to come."

dont buy africans. although they are dirt cheap, but in the middle of season, they got this african nation cup. clubs get into trouble if most of their important players are africans.

for example.... arsenal?

chelsea for sure gonna lose drogba. without him although got anelka, wont be the same. man city no worry, they got 9 stikers. sadly no one will be playing. due to injuries.

on buying goalies, i believe currently we no need to buy any. goalie got longer life span compared to lets say a defender. i am not saying that because we got van der sar, but younger ones arent any better, apart from cassilas at madrid or cech at chelsea.

that neuer prat. hes german for god sake. germans are ugly. (read: kahn and that prat used to play for arsenal. lehmann)

Cech ever since he got that head injury, never really been the same. He's still good, but make mistakes here and there. There's just not many top class GK's around. You have Casillas, Buffon.. then the rest all about the same level. VDS, Cech, Reina.. a few others. Right now people seem to rate that Cesar at Inter as one of the best around. Then there's the upcoming Germans.. don't care how ugly they are if they're one of us. If we can tolerate Tevez before this, we can tolerate anyone. laugh.gif

Buying GK is never easy. Even Arsene seem to struggled with that position. We got very lucky someone as good as VDS who was very experienced was playing for a club like Fulham and was available. We won't get Casillas.. that Cesar and Buffon(he's only 31.. don't mind if we can get him) will cost A LOT. 30-40m easily in today's market. Not sure we're prepared to pay that amount for a GK. We could buy the up and coming GKs, but still it's no guarantee they're going to nail the position VDS currently held for us. Foster apart from the mistakes in the two games he had so far for us, seems to be a fairly solid GK. Mentally he's strong showed by how he bounced back after the bad games against Chelsea and City. That's always a sign of a good GK. He just need to keep on being solid and redeem himself in the big games should he play in them that would really cement his future as our #1, and maybe even take over from VDS this season.

Giggs, Scholes, Gary Neville achieved everything at our club.. tongue.gif
There's no reason for him to leave anyway. Playing for a top team, playing in his home.. no reason for him to leave.

he is not able ot hold his starting spot at Bayern not to mention at man utd... now bayern is using their second choice experience keeper = Hans Jorg Butt...

But keeper division still can left alone for a while. I think most important for future will be a winger.

Maybe an attacking midfielder??? Joao Moutinho - Sporting lisbon Captain???

I think we're done in the wingers department. That is until we're done with Nani. Could be the end of this season or the end of the next. Park, Valencia, Obertan, Ljajic.. we have plenty of options and potential to work with.

We were interested 2-3 years back I think. Not sure now. He's not a winger anyway.. more like a roaming AM.
