Most GYW shoes need breaking in so be prepared to have sore feet for the first few wears. They can be pretty sleek too, I don't see why Blake stitched can be better. It all depends on the last. The more narrow/elongated last the sleeker.

Meermin quality seems to be hit and miss but I do suspect the feedback on the SF thread tends to be more critical in general. They sure are value for money though. Wouldn't mind a pair of linea maestro from them.

I've never had issues with slippery soles, but I've read that to reduce slip use a penknife to carve a few lines into the soles, seems to work wonders.

Personally I wouldn't buy monks in black. But I'm more partial towards brown so that's just me. Congrats on the purchase, go for brown double monks next ie C&J Lowndes

Never owned Grensons but they are fine shoes, just not as popular as the other brands. Perhaps on par with Loake, Cheaney and slightly below C&J and Alfred Sargent.

Just one word of caution, online sizing can be tricky and if the last does not fit it can be money down the drain.

No secret that Meermin have their own QC issues. But at that price point I would not expect perfection in every pair.
With business attire I would go for a sleeker look, i.e. chiseled or elegantly rounded. Country brogues, as in the name, were originally meant for wear in the country side or kampungs if you like.

No physical shops for Meermin as SEA as far as I'm aware. There is an extensive thread on Styleforum though if you have the patience to go through the whole thing.
Sad to say with the current exchange rate, sub 1k shoes are nearly impossible to find. Even marked down Allen Edmonds exceed that.
On a side note, would anyone be interested in a pair of Vass U-last oxfords? Size 42.5 BNIB. Beautiful shoes but a tad large on me.

2k sounds a bit too much, even for the Linea Maestro line. That's Carmina / C&J price range already.

It was a good deal (discount code plus free international shipping) so I went for it. There's one last pair in 8.5UK if anyone is interested. http://www.gentlemensfootwear.com/collecti...useum-dark-navy

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Dec 15 2015, 02:24 PM) Well I just got my shoes. Total price paid is RM 1,000, including about RM 55 in taxes and RM 50 ib DHL duty handling fee or something. Doesn't seem to be as bang for buck as compared to P.Lal which hasn't updated their prices for the horrible exchange rate. Anyway I ordered size 7.5 based on Meermin's recommendation from my feet measurements. Barely got my feet in... Hope it loosens up a bit. Oh and the colour is noticeably darker than on the website. Feel like complaining. Well what you mentioned are all part of the risks of buying stuff online. Color may be off due to monitor settings or lighting conditions when the photos were taken. You can complain but unless there's a defect on the shoes, don't think there are much chances of a refund. Worse case just sell the shoes and take a small hit.

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Dec 15 2015, 10:16 PM) Oh well. At least now I know how the Hiro last fits my feet. Actually once my feet are in the shoes, it is snug, maybe just slightly tight. But the tough part is getting my feet INTO the shoes. Is this normal for narrow lasts? A little snugness is normal. Might feel better once the shoes break in. But if you have difficulty getting in even with shoe horn, hmm hard to say.

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Jan 16 2016, 04:47 PM) Just passed my last professional paper, so thinking of getting a pair of shoes to commemorate! I have a pair Meermin brown suede oxfords, a black Loake derby, and I I have the J. Fitzpatrick brown museum calf oxfords on the way. I'm thinking burgundy next. Any recommendation for a nice pair of burgundy oxfords? I don't have any brogues currently, so maybe one with brogueing? Prefer oxfords ovr derbies or loafers. Budget around RM 1,000 to RM 1,500... don't wanna go higher than that yet, but feel free to suggest anyway Since you have a couple pairs of oxfords, perhaps a double monk?

This is an austerity brogue. Basically a wingtip without the perforations.

Almost forgot how painful it is to break in a pair of new shoes. But it's coming along nicely.

I would go for Carmina but then it depends on whether the last suits you. There are forum threads to help on sizing.
