I have a pair of Meermin suede oxfords, which I've worn for about 2 months now. It made squeaky noises when I walked due to friction with the socks so I put some talc powder in the shoes and the noises disappeared. However recently there has been a different kind of squeaking -- it happens when the sole flexes, when you start to lift your foot off the ground and the heel moves first and the sole bends. I'm not sure if it's due to friction again but I could only pinpoint it to the moment when the sole flexes. Any ideas on how to fix this? Sending back to Meermin is not an option.

Apart from that the shoes are pretty great, not the best finishing but not bad at all. The suede looks and feels soft. The snuff colour is darker than on the website but is just the right shade of brown imo. Not too light not too dark. I prefer it over the lighter website colour to be honest.

Squeaking may be caused by a loose shank, air pocket or materials rubbing against each other. Seems like a pretty common issue for Meermin.

I read in another thread that the Carmina's there go for RM 1880 which is a pretty decent price. Not too far off online prices and you get the invaluable perk of being able to try the shoes.

I would support local stores if they price difference was negligible.

Based on the concept of diminishing returns, I guess I will never go into Lobb level shoes. Anything above 500 USD, the difference in construction and quality is probably very minimal.

Having owned Loake, AE, C&J and Carmina, the best I would go for is likely handwelted Vass.

Snagged a pair of Carmina snuff suede double monks from WJ. The best size was 7 but it was the display unit and had a small blemish on the leather, so I tried 6.5 and although it was quite tight I took that instead. The leather should soften and loosen up after a few wears. List price is RM 1,880 but they have not implemented GST this month yet so I got the pre-GST price of RM 1,770. Can't find this model anywhere on the net... My guess is he got it from Epaulet in NY previously or something.

Anyway, I think the shoe range is priced quite decently. But the Carmina belts are overpriced IMO - online price is €75 so that's about RM 350. It sells for RM 680 in WJ. The Saphir range feels overpriced too, the Renovateur is RM 120. Is there anywhere else to get Saphir products from online?

Well my pair of dark brown museum oxfords from J. Fitzpatrick finally arrived. Looks great, construction is pretty much flawless. Too bad my office;s dress policy just switched to everyday casual, so I may not be wearing this very often.

Thinking of selling it.

How does it fit? Did you get taxed by customs?

Prices like that are really too much for me. I've never paid more than 15 usd for cedar trees, though Chinese made ones.
