QUOTE(Najmods @ Dec 26 2009, 10:38 PM) I wonder do you guys/girls use ganged or unganged mode? Currently I use ganged mode. I read about it but does anyone here have tested them personally? Hmm.... am also hoping some one could elaborate more on the matter: am using M4A78 EM/1394 & Kingmax PC6400 2x2GB. latest Bios 0504. Win 7 64bitthis board got 4 slot Dimm, 2 yellow & 2 black. + Athlon II X3 425. Ganged mode: Dual channel 4096MB ram windows recognize and usable 3.5GB coz of the onboard GFX. Unganged mode: single channel 2048 ram windows recognize & usable 1.5Gb coz of on board GFX So basically if I used Unganged mode: in bios & windows I can only used 2048MB. the other 2048MB its reserved. I dont even know why. I try to swap slot 1 yellow dimm & 1 black dimm occupied by Kingmax. In ganged mode nor unganged its recognize single channel. can only usable 2048MB no matter what I do. Put it back both ram at both yellow slot dimm, in ganged mode, its become dual channel again (4096MB). then change to unganged mode, it become single again & 2048MB only can used. Both stick of ram are ok, pass all memtest. I also tried to google it. read a fews but notin give clearer answers to my problem: " what I want is to have unganged mode & bios + windows recognize 4069MB." |

QUOTE(antonio @ Dec 27 2009, 05:11 AM) Same color = 1 channel ok. that what I did. I put both my Ram in same color dimm (yellow). then i go in bios memory configuration ... then select unganged mode. the restart. but windows only recognize 2046MB only not 4069MB.so put ur rams on the same color for dual channel.... then go to the memory tab in the bios and select unganged.... |

QUOTE(Najmods @ Dec 27 2009, 10:35 AM) You just nitpicking, my ASUS board plays just fine in ganged or unganged mode. This forum is biased when it comes to choosing hardware brand/make because of certain people have a little history with them yup. my bios is the latest 0504.As for beast921, have you tried updating the BIOS? Download it here. I've browsed around in ASUS forum but I can't find anyone who have your board that have similar problem. For anyone who wonder how does it perform in synthetic benchmarks, here is Everest Unganged vs Ganged ![]() There are two memory controller in Phenom (II). Ganged mode basically acts like one big 128-bit bus by combining this two controller but the downside is each core have to 'queue' to access them, the Unganged mode is better because it acts as two individual 64-bit and each core are free to utilise them. That is in theory, in synthetic benchmark like Everest it would prefer the big 128-bit memory controller than two individual 64-bit ones |

QUOTE(Najmods @ Dec 27 2009, 03:49 PM) Just because some of us have it doesn't mean the whole series is bad. You got the best MSI board for example and don't have problems, does it mean the cheaper board are the same? I have use some asus board I have zero issues with any memory incompatibility. But I do have memory incompatibility with DFI board before, but will that makes me bashing DFI board and say all their board suck? Yup, I did email to asus support already with 48 hours they will reply on the issues.Best thing to do in beast921 case is e-mail them, their customer support are quite good, they will usually reply e-mail in 1-2 days QUOTE(antonio @ Dec 27 2009, 03:56 PM) Memory Hole Remap option in bios set to ON.... Noted . on your suggestion:In windows type msconfig in Command Prompt....Then go to Boot, Click on the Microsoft Windows, then go to Advance Options, see if the check box for Maximum Memory is clicked and insert the amount of 4094 inside the tab.... Restart.... If still only 2GB visible Type in msconfig again in the Command Prompt and then go back at the Boot tab and advance menu, un-checked the maximum memory tab... Added on December 27, 2009, 4:04 pm Just let it flip, it doesn't need to uphold any specific brands or model maa....I used Asus, DFI, Abit, MSI, Gigabyte (ol 939 days), Biostar and have found some pro and cons of each of them....its how your reply regarding the problems that matters, and not to simply say that A board is suck or the B board is good...its a matter of the whole board specific construction and a little bit of luck also.... The current 790FX when I first bought it, out of the box POST'ed once then never again...change 1 to 1 then only I'm running... Just let it slide... Please refer to the screenie as proof & look into the circle part (in windows ss): that what I trying to focus on. ![]() By beast921 at 2009-12-27 Bios Unganged mode: ![]() By beast921, shot with E65 at 2009-12-27 ![]() By beast921, shot with E65 at 2009-12-27 ![]() By beast921, shot with E65 at 2009-12-27 Ok now please remember that my RAM 2GB x 2 pcs: Both Ram slotting in Both Yellow Dimm Slot. Its unfortunate for me. This post has been edited by beast921: Dec 27 2009, 08:49 PM |

QUOTE(antonio @ Dec 27 2009, 09:29 PM) Set the UMA to as little as possible...lets say 512MB.... yeah so basically, without any discrete GFX Card, this mobo wont be able to perform Unganged Dual channel mode.then in theory although you will lose 500mb due to 32bit OS, but it is being utilized perfectly by the GFX....hihihihihi |
