hi guys...

thinking of giving my 5200+ Brisbane some oc...

currently at 235MHz, dropped HT to x4, and RAM at 667MHz config...

at this config, it can boot, load windows, but would auto restart, so want to give it a mild electric shock (aka increase vcore)

but the oc menu of my mobo (Biostar TA790GX XE) is pretty confusing... on 1 hand it has the "CPU FID/VID Control", where i can set the CPU voltage between (and inclusive of) 0.800V to 1.350V, and a "Voltage Configuration:, which gives the option of "CPU Overvoltage", allowing of small increment of voltage, each step is +0.012V...

so which one should i go for first???

can i use the settings in AMD OverDrive as a gauge??? it says 1.3V...

but a check at CPU-Z shows it fluctuates from 1.31V to 1.344V when running at 2.7GHz...

can.. it could be ur default voltage.. 1.325 maybe can hit 3ghz already..
that fluctuations maybe becoz of the mobo..
*
already hit 3.1GHz at default volatage.. .laugh.gif

thx for the help... i'll see how it goes...

Added on November 29, 2009, 2:21 pmbtw, how does lowering the multiplier helps???

hmm... getting some weird problem here...

upped to 225MHz, ran Prime95...

Core 0 would always encounter error after a few mins, but Core 1 can still run...

i ve tried using the rig normally at such speed, Internet, youtube, etc, no games involved, it wouldn't BSOD or watsoever...

raising vcore does not give any improvements as well...

any idea guys???

RAM dropped to 667MHz, HT dropped to x4...

vcore is default...

temp wise, it's max 63C during Prime95, idle is high 3xC...

anyway, i juz tried Prime95 at default clock, left it to run while i went out, and it shut down itself...

well, i juz ran again with Core Temp logging the temperature, and of course, it shut down again...

then i boot up and check the log, and see that it surpassed 100C during the test... the worst thing is i never realize it... doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

opened up and see that there's very little thermal compound on the CPU, somehow... now cleaning and reapplying thermal compund...

hello guys, hope u guys remember me... i was the one with the suspected 1 core defective on 5200+ guy... laugh.gif

anyway, after much troubleshoot, turns out that the integrated graphic has problem, and i think it affected the northbridge as well... went to grab a HD4670 today, now running at 220MHz, Prime95 for 10mins already, temp maintaining at 62-64C in air con room...

my 5200+ is giving me some worries... was trying 230MHz x13.5 with vcore 1.35V (1.392V on CPU-Z during full load), ran Prime95, and the temperature shot way over 80C... even now idle is a high 4xC... during Prim95 Core 0 stopped in 1min while Core 1 throws out "ERROR: ILLEGAL SUMOUT"...

cooler is a Scythe Shuriken RevB with some cepalam thermal compound... thinking of getting better ones later though...

but seriously speaking, i can run it at 225MHz x13.5 at default voltage comfortably, though temp would hit 6xC during Prime95... is that the max i can go???

RAM used is DDR2 800MHz and i ve dropped them to 667MHz, and HT is at x4...
