QUOTE(frozzbyte @ Nov 23 2009, 01:53 PM) Actually JB is not a bad thing .. just don't be tooo trigger happy and install all sort of apps without knowing what it can do. That's where all the troubles arise with newbies. All want to install, later phone problem dunno what to do. Even if the app in beta also want to install. certainly second tat frozz..But it actually depends on ones preferences. For me, i can never live without jailbreaking. sm times it sounds like its a federal crime to jb.. many tink tat we just jb 2 get our hands on da u-noe-wat apps.. truth is, thr is much much more to it than tat... thr now sm apps frm cydia which i cant imagine my i3gs without... QUOTE(porkchop @ Nov 28 2009, 12:16 AM) ![]() iPhone worm author lands job as application developer QUOTE Just recently, an Australian by the name of Ashley Towns released an iPhone worm into the wild, which essentially Rick-rolled the user if their phone met certainly vulnerability criteria. Now, however, Towns has managed to get a job with a development firm, escaping any legal punishment he should receive. The worm, named the Ikee worm, wasn't malicious in intent, but that's not to say it didn't come without any dangerous repercussions. As posted by Graham Cluley on a Sophos blog, the worm contained a few bugs, and also built the path for a more dangerous worm, dubbed the 'Duh' worm. The Duh worm didn't Rick-roll people, but rather attempted to turn affected iPhones into a botnet, and steal personal data. This is why many people are shaking their heads over the decision to hire Towns as a developer, at least without giving him some sort of punishment. The firm that hired him is mogeneration, which currently has a number of commercially available iPhone apps. Interestingly, the company made a post on the worm recently also, somewhat defending Towns and reassuring users that they would be fine. Cluley on the Sophos blog makes a good point, stating, "There are plenty of young coders out there who would not have acted so stupidly, are just as worthy of an opportunity inside a software development company, and are actually quite likely to be better coders than Towns who made a series of blunders with his code." At the very least, it hopefully means Towns will be keeping on the straight and narrow from here on in. |

Apple to Take iPhone's Maps App to 'the Next Level'
QUOTE MacRumors has found a new Apple job listing seeking an iPhone Software Engineer to join the iPhone and iPod Touch Maps team with the goal of taking the iPhone's built-in Maps App to "the next level": We want to take Maps to the next level, rethink how users use Maps and change the way people find things. We want to do this in a seamless, highly interactive and enjoyable way. We've only just started. The specificity of the job description is somewhat unusual for Apple, and particularly interesting given recent events. Apple and Google have increasingly become competitors in the mobile space while Google's mapping data remains an integral part of the iPhone's Maps application. Google has recently stepped up even further with the introduction of many new features for their Android mapping application. This included advanced features such as plain english search, voice search and more. Although Apple and Google are said to be working on bringing the same technology to the iPhone, there's been evidence that Apple is working on their own mapping technology. Apple recently acquired a mapping company called Placebase which had been know for differentiating itself from Google's offerings. The former CEO of Placebase is now part of the "Geo Team" at Apple, which has led to speculation that Apple is looking to separate itself from their dependance on Google maps. |
October bill was around rm70++, it could be accidental, after that i cancel the Edge service at maxis. And then i recently receive Novembers bill and got a shock stating rm700, called up Maxis they said it was before i cancel the Edge subscription..where did huge figure come from. Now im waiting for Maxis update.
thanks harmeet for the info. im using iphone 2g, and there is no icon on mine, i assume its off. When some personal testing by harmeet, its pretty clear that i've shut my Edge off. I knew, surfing using Edge is going to be expensive, and no point surfing with it. I shut off mine long time ago. sigh.
bro, i mite be wrong or maybe maxis changed their policies recently, but they can only charge a maximum rm250 for data charges.. so thr is no way u can be charged more than tat... just my 2 cents... Added on December 3, 2009, 8:30 pm
Added on December 3, 2009, 3:56 pm maybe the off EDGE option remains after you upgrade ?
i jailbreak my iphone 3.1.2 already. installed sbsettings. when i tried connect to web just now.. it says "you not activated fpr cellular data network bla bla.. ' how could it be? i check under setting -> general -> network -> cellular data network (under 'cellular data' the APN/username/password are empty. do i need to fill it?
if u r using maxis, u dun hv to...its auto configured with ur carrier settings... is thr a bug on this site 2day? This post has been edited by harmeet15: Dec 3 2009, 08:31 PM |
