Ok. Because my friend is offering me the iphone(not maxis) and it's international warranty. So I was wondering if anything goes wrong where to take it for warranty claim.
*
i will be more than happy to be corrected, if your friend can actually produce a URL originating from apple stating that.

AFAIK, there is no such thing.

is the latest OS3.1.2 stable or not ?
*
it has always been stable for me.

firmware upgrades have always done good for me (with the exception of OS3.0 with the slight heat build up issue)

Dutch Hacker Holds Jailbroken iPhones Hostage For Ransom

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Many of us have jailbroken our iPhones, but did everyone remember to change the default root password? Those guilty of that oversight are vulnerable to the simple intrusion method this guy used to hold iPhones hostage in the Netherlands.

Apparently all that it took to terrify many dutch iPhone users was a “trivial” port scanning technique and “a modicum of networking know-how”. After the hacker gained access to the jailbroken phones with unchanged root passwords, he sent the pictured message which led to a demand for a €5 ($8) PayPal payment and words of caution:

QUOTE
If you don’t pay, it’s fine by me, but remember, the way I got access to your iPhone can be used by thousands of others-they can send text messages from your number (like I did), use it to call or record your calls, and actually whatever they want, even use it for their hacking activities! I can assure you, I have no intention of harming you or whatever, but, some hackers do! It’s just my advice to secure your phone.

This particular gentleman was almost kind. He didn’t inflict any serious harm, only demanded a small optional payment and limited his activity to the Netherlands. Whoever learns from his approach might not be as nice. The lesson, my darlings? Change your root passwords if you’ve got a jailbroken iPhone. I finally did.

this stuff is crazy man....
if changing root password is to difficult, they can always off ssh rite...>?

well, the main point being highlighted here is ignorance.

everyone wants to jump on board to jailbreak their iPhones but have no clue with regard to it. even worse to precipitate the problem, they refuse to research further.

hence to be honest, for work and P & C related e-mails, it is better dealing with a blackberry smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

QUOTE(fuiyo @ Nov 3 2009, 09:12 PM)
My iPhone always syncs with my PC.

Now I have a MacBook Pro and decided to transfer everything from my PC to MacBook Pro.

Media contents are easy.
But how am I going to transfer my backup to my MacBook Pro, so that my iPhone can restore from backup on my MacBook Pro?

I will lose my application data if I don't restore from backup.

Help?
*
this is what i did, for both my MBP and XP (via bootcamp):

transfer your songs to match at least 95% of the original contents in your previous windows to the MBP - crucial to ensure that iTunes doesn't erase the contents on your current iPhone.

then synchronise the iPhone once. iTunes should make a new backup on your MBP now.

thanks to harmeet15 , now i could use mp3 as my ringtones.

now, just curious want to know whether we can use mp3 as our sms tones? smile.gif

can we listen to music in the background in iphone 3gs? for instance , i wan to listen to music while i m surfing the internet??
or using the IM while music is still on
*
yes.

yes.

QUOTE(fuiyo @ Nov 4 2009, 07:09 PM)
The media contents (songs and video) aren't an issue.
I can always re-sync them as there are no saved data in them.
ALL songs, videos, photos could be transferred to my MBP to match my iPhone's contents.

But what about my saved data in my apps, as well as my settings?
If I transfer all of my apps that are on my PC to my MBP,
Would my iPhone recognize it and create a new backup, retaining all my saved data?

Thanks.
*
erm, all the four iPhones i have had, still have the saved games and applications well (for example, i didn't have to re-log into my beejive)

anyway if it does backfire, you can always restore from your windows iTunes no?

i guess the poll is a good thing as it serves as a guide to the favourite cases/pouches that are used by most of the forumers here....
you can use iPhone explorer also...quite a simple software and its pretty good..but u have to jailbreak ur phone first la
*
seriously, such polls are a waste of time and space TBH and i'm relatively an open minded person.

every human being is unique and how they perceive "nice" and value differ greatly.

depending on taste and criteria; some might prefer a translucent case? leather? synthetic material? bling bling approximate? fabric?

whilst i'm at it, perhaps i ought to contemplate opening a poll asking LYN males' preference with regard to female hairstyle; dyed, short, shoulder length, bleached, fringe-less et cetera. you get my drift...

You guys have to check your phone regularly for miss calls/smses then?
*
even if there was such an initiative, i doubt that it will be approved by apple in the first place.

for text messages, you can opt for the periodic-buzzes feature for unread messages.

Added on November 16, 2009, 3:32 pmboy it was such a fiasco in the maxis TTDI yesterday (and this problem of mine, actually involved a few forummers here tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif )

touched down in KLIA and bought the hotlink 500MB for rm68 and i could never get it to work! i even got the confirmation text from hotlink, informing me that payment has commenced and the duration period.

tried everything on the book (network reset, dial *100# to active gprs et cetera) and keeps generating "could not activate cellular data network - you are not subscribed to a cellular data service).

rang up hotlink and was told because my unit is not from maxis, that explains the problem. unsatisfied, after that she told me to go maxis TTDI to get the "gprs settings" (???!!!)

patronised the branch and the dude (who happens to be a regular in LYN) suggested that we manually change the APN (via the website).

tried booting up the phone a few times (home and silent simultaneously) and it just will not go through the apple logo.

so i had to restore my phone as a new phone in the maxis TTDI (and lost partial of my data!) and only to find out, they can actually enable "something something" on their system for me to experience internet on my iPhone.

all that shenanigan for nothing! cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

i don't know la. but it was done through their system.

so when it was feasible for me to get online on both his iPhone and mine, i proceeded to ask him, "so, all of our previous attempts were not necessary, if we have done that first?"

he sheepishly said "possibly"

nevertheless, i appreciated his help and his company as he was explaining how things work in maxis et cetera throughout the ordeal icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

AhHh so next time someone else facing the same issues should just walk into Maxis and tell them; please go enable "something something" before trying anything else?! *faints*

Am glad U made a new friend biggrin.gif
*
i believe it is only applicable to hotlink users.

because like you and the rest, postpaid users don't really face such qualms.

QUOTE(PeeEl @ Nov 16 2009, 05:55 PM)
Nok, firstly, good to have you back to this neck of the woods, albeit temporarily. Secondly, with Maxis, tell me what else is new. Unfortunately it had to be you who was the one who experienced their ineptness this time around which luckily didn't cost you too dearly save for loss of some data. Hope they can be retrieved by some means.
*
it was fine la. i'm not blaming him or anything to be honest. even with apple, it is recommended that you backup your unit before leaving the house.

if it was anything more, i actually have myself to blame because i should have known better (since i'm the allegedly experienced one) before heading to maxis TTDI. i thought it was just a simple procedure.

my entire collection of flirtatious, text messages sent by numerous female acquaintances are now gone! nothing precious inside my iPhone as i did subscribe to the mobileme plan and restoration was painless and quick.

that aside, i'm more than happy to be connected 24/7 now and i could never imagine myself without data after getting "addicted" to it during my tenancy in australia.

N I'm nt so sure abt hotlink users, postpaid users face less or no prob at all. Most to most aso session hang n just hv to reset backhand one. wink.gif

yeah. i'm trying la... psyeo is also keen on coming and he is not from the klang valley region ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

open your mouth and i shall spoon-feed you

just purchase a universal adapter converter (or if you have the dough, purchase the complete set from apple)

Hi tinkerbel,
Thanks for reply. I tried putting my SIM on a NOKIA phone and it works!
I read a bit on the forum and someone said..

____________
A bit update about my drop calls who is using Celcom Postpaid.
Currently, the new batch of sim card that is using code HSUH at the back does not support for 3GS.
You may request for 256K 3GWM card and will work perfectly!
____________

I think I might be a victim on the new batch of SIM card.
My problem now is... Hmm.. how to request for 256K 3GWM SIM card..  unsure.gif
*
erm, not sure how is the system now, but during my 3G days, when i purchased a xpax (celcom prepaid) pack and the bloke manning the counter was quick to spot that i was using an iPhone and told me that i'll be needing a "special and out of ordinary" sim card for the data connection to work.

he said that it is recommended since this maneuver has proven to be beneficial for iPhone users on celcom.

was advice to get an iphone instead of blackberry.easier n friendlier. is that true?
*
i have used the blackberry pearl before and the iPhone since the first generation.

i could only advice if e-mailing is imperative to you, i suggest that you opt for blackberry instead. the push service by blackberry is one of its kind and respectable.

for you to enjoy such a service on the iPhone, your only alternative is to subscribe to the mobile me package.

the default push service on the Yahoo! mail is unfortunately regrettable and its performance fluctuates.

hence i typically use my mobile me e-mail as a forwarding mechanism on my both my Gmail and Yahoo! mail.

that way, my e-mails are purged instantaneously albeit the fact, i get two identical copies of the same e-mail once i open the mail app.

Added on November 27, 2009, 9:56 pmand did i mention that the blackberry browser is atrocious! no i didn't?

yes it is.

safari works seamlessly with the iPhone =)
