why not? PS3 got yellow color RCA cable..  biggrin.gif

ar188,

I don't believe you can watch BDs using the RCA cable. If I am not mistaken, BD requires a HDCP handshake and I was under the impression that older CRT TVs that were available in Malaysia does not have them? Is this right? Can someone confirm this?

come to think of it didn't try..

only know it works with PS3 x-bar menu when I bought it, then I changed it to HD rez to continue...  biggrin.gif
anyway ripped ISOs played on media players like dune don't need HDCP..

Ok. I believe for BD material it will not work as it requires an active HDCP connection. Unless you have a new HDTV, most older CRT TVs did not have HDCP protocol. Also I believe HDCP requires a minimum of component connection. Games will work as it does not have the HDCP protocol embedded.

I'll try it tonite.. (I just remember watching BD on the composite PS3 cable before)

I think can watch BD with composite.. most/if not all BDP have Svideo and Composite RCa out... SD rez output NTSC/PAL from BD movies do not require HDCP (only have macrovision protection)
*
Component cable on HDTV works. Composite not sure. But on older CRT TVs that do not have HDCP composite/component do not work. SD DVD works from PS3 thru composite/component. Watching the main feature does not work.

Tried from Oppo BD Player to older CRT TV using component outs. The BD would not load. Could not even get the menu. Tried with DVD, all ok. Resolution was set to 480p. Not sure abt the PS3, need to check.

Do let me know if it works on the PS3, would like to pass mine to my dad who has a older CRT.

OK confirm 100% composite works on PS3 + BD..  thumbup.gif

just tested mine playing ratatouille.. main movie..

looks like PS3 one upped oppo.. yay!  laugh.gif

Ok cool. I will try the Oppo with a composite cable. Also quick question, was this on a CRT TV? Or a flat panel?

Edit: Confirmed that it works with composite. Just dumb of me to not try the simplest of connections! Oppo fixes the resolution of BD at 1080i over component and thats why the component on my older CRT TV did not work! Stupid of me!

Heard the same, I believe it works fine if u turn off BD Live. I am pretty sure it will work fine with the PS3. Most if not all movie studios have the PS3 to confirm authoring for playback issues.

Eventhough if the BD Live is disable, The oppo still won't play. You need to download the beta firmware from their site in order for it to work. Heard they are working on the firmware. Anyone here bought Crank 2 bd? Heard these disc is having playback problem with some bdp. Anyone can comfirm these? hmm.gif
*
I believe you're right, you need to use the new beta firmware. Crank 2 is also the same. BTW I do not have these 2 BDs to confirm. Also u own the Oppo as well? Region free?

Actually, contrary to popular belief, the PS3 is a fantastic BD player. Its processing speeds is almost unpararelled and due to the fact that most movie mastering houses use this as the defacto BD player, most titles will have no problems playing on the PS3. PS3s only achillees heel was that it had a noisy fan, was a power hogger and it did not bitstream the HD audio codecs.

With the release of the PS3 Slim, Sony fixed 2 out of the 3 main complaints. There is no way to bypass the fan issue, the processing power that the PS3 has really needs a good cooling system, hence the huge fan.

The PS3 has no issue with image processing (it handles DVD upscaling better than most DVD players out there) and is very very good at sending out a clean problem free HD video (very calibration friendly). Really, unless you need a better audio processing system (dedicated 2 channel audiochannel, multichannel analogue, SACD, DVD-A) I would suggest the new PS3 slim to anyone out there! Also it doubles up as a media player as well. Hard to beat.

If the fan noise does not annoy you, there is no reason to go for separates.

Deal Alert: $10 off Snow White BD at Amazon

Posted September 24, 2009 07:09 AM by Juan Calonge

Blu-ray Movies Amazon is currently offering a $10 discount off the purchase of the Blu-ray of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'. Just input the promotional code "snowhite" (only one W) at checkout. If used on the combo edition with Blu- ray packaging, this brings the final price to $14.99; but it allegedly also works on the other different BD editions of the movie.

Good deal, at 14.99 for a disney title is as low as it would go...

Anyone here saw The Thing recently? I usually stay away for pre 1990s movie as their effects and editting is very dated... (just saw Godfather for the first time. Good movie but damn bad editting...damn slow...)

Try out "Salo:120days of Sodom" - now that's scary sh*t. Scary to imagine that someone actually decided to take a movie based on this. Scary to imagine that this really happened! And downright scary in terms of violation of human rights. It was voted as the no65 scariest film ever made (some US assocation)

anybody knows if da vinci code/angel n demons box set region free or not? angel n demons alone is not region free sad.gif
*
As far as I know, Universal would use the same encodes for US and UK releases and in this case the UK release also had BD Live (Bourne Trilogy)

DaVinciCode/Angel n Demons box set from UK is a Sony release, I don't think Sony would have different region coding for the standalone vs the boxset.. If u can wait until I get mine, I can check for u....Possibly next week.

BTW, Anyone can comment on the PQ/AQ of the Infernal Affairs Trilogy? Also anyone already tested the Once Upon a Time in China as yet? There are some reports that indicate that the Once Upon a Time in China and Police Story from HK are upscaled DVDs instead of remastered from original as HD. Can someone who has viewed these comment...
