Duh...looks like I'm stuck with the constant need to turn on my TV, even when I'm listening to the radio. The only way would be to go into pure direct. but that bypasses the subwoofer. Bookshelf's bass can't compare to a sub.  What a waste of energy....haiii

Hi Alucard

Try disabling your HDMI_CEC from your TV. This will allow you to control the receiver insependently from the TV.

That should be Aquos Link on my Sharp TV. I don't think I set it to on, but let's see tonight. I'm getting a 15m LAN to test out the network capability today though.

If still unable go to Yammy setup menu and switch OFF your HDMI control. I have this proble initially with my Aventage series and now it is solved.

Hi Alucard
Did you try to physically switch off the AVR and the TV from the power socket and wait for a while for the system to reset before switching it ON again.

Got my RX-V473 after getting poisoned by a friend's Aventage series.  Used to have a cheap amp but has not revisited home theatre systems since it died a long time ago.  Was pleasantly surprised how far AV receivers came along.

Hit the same error when updating firmware to 1.14 from the receiver unit itself, downloaded firmware into USB drive and it works.

Love DLNA - playing music from my WDTVLiveHub.
Minor detail :
Net Server mode to play music > change to any other scene/input source > change back to net Server.  It gets out-of-sync and keeps waiting on "loading" to display music list.
Hitting "Net" to cycle through Net radio, airplay and back to Net Server solves it.

IR Remote control seems to drain new Energizer batteries in 2 days. Swapped 3 sets of new batteries.  Got the remote control changed from the shop, we'll see how this one goes but I suspect I just got a lemon.

I keep getting "Error - Too noisy" when trying to auto calibrate with the YPAO mic, even at night with the ceiling fan off.  Chose to proceed anyway and then tune by ear.

Once the initial setup is out of the way, I'm enjoying it.
Went out to get the NS-SW210 a week later.  Although auto-calibration sets the crossover at 40Hz, I found it to be better at 110Hz.  After which looking at articles online looks like that matches my small to mid size speakers.

Hi

Congrats on your purchase. I found that for Yamaha if you are patient and you set it up correctly you will be rewarded with the their Expansive sound with good soundstaging and depth. Care to share what mid size speakers you are currently using.

Ya forgot to mention. Do not trust Yamaha Ypao settings more often than not they give you false info like your speaker are out of phase, subwoofer recommended setting given way to low at least for me. Trust your own ears more and the sound that you want to hear and not what other people tell you.

Can 473 do manual calibration?
*
Any receiver should be able to calibrate manually. Check your manual it should have a test tone where you can trigger and you can also manually key in the distance of the speakers from your sitting position. If not sure google it should be able to find. I am not using 473 right now but I am sure it can be done having own 3 different brand of receiver before.

any good 6 ohm bookself speakers to suggest ? Thanks
*
Hi Melvin

If you can audition the PSB Synchrony One B or Two B series. really like the sound, a non fussy speaker and can partner with any amp. Small speakers with big sound staging and presence. Value for money. Sorry I am not a dealer its just that been using this brand of speakers for the last 15 years and still loving the sound. Just sharing something good.

Bro, what do you tink of the LX56? From the specs it seem superior than the 3020. My main reason for A1020 is because of the biamp and the HDMI connection, but i do not like that it does not have any display for dtsma, or dolby
*
Hi Bro

Confirmed have you need to hit the straight button to show the DTS-MA or Dolby True HD sign on the display panel.

Personally I quite like Pioneer design even my car HU is Pioneer tongue.gif ...... in fact I have yet to test LX series and RX-A series, so I'm not sure how is the performance between this 2.

But i read some magazine and reviews, LX56 is comparable with 2020, so I supposed 3020 should be above LX56 as the price of these 2 is much diff sweat.gif . However, I think it still subject to what kind of sound you are looking at.

So better try it out. But 1 things to note, LX56 is 4K pass thru not upscalling, but RX-A series have both.

Hi

It is about sound preference. Have been using Pioneer AX 10i series for quite a while until I change to Yamaha Aventage series. There was a lot of difference in the sound. You need to hear it and test it with your own ears on which you prefer. In summary i am very happy with my current Yamaha setup. Take note LX56 give you better control on the sound setting which the Yamaha lacks.

I am currently using RX-A1010 to pair with my PSB Stratus Gold for Front and Centre and DCM for the subwoofer. For the surround was using JBL speakers.

U going for 5.1 or 7.1?

if not mistaken, bi amp u will need to sacrifice 2 channel....
*
What Cyclone says is correct. Need to sacrifice 2 channels so you must decide whether it is 5.1 or 7.1 for you.

Nope, will not change speaker. Currently using Mezzo 6 for fronts. Mezzo itself is not that power hungry. For me, 5.1 is good enough, as I am still new in HT setup.

Hi

Dont make your decision too early on this long and winding road with a lot of upgrade poison a long the way. Had my 5.1 when I started thought thats good enuff. After playing the toys for few years upgrade to 7.1. Now I regretted I did not plan for 9.2 when I had the chance when renovating my house. Really regretted should gone for the 3010 when I had the chance. cry.gif cry.gif

in this case, u may need to plan well whether you have intention to go 7.1 + bi amp in future.... or only 7.1... then 7.2 amp should be more than enuff, but u may need to see the power of the amp whether good enuff to drive your speaker set with bi amp.. or u wan change speaker a speaker as well? laugh.gif

I'm now struggling whether 3020 or not haha..... drool.gif

damn too poisonous!!!!

now i'm waiting to change my 608 to Aventage x20... how long u been using yr 1010?

still struggling which model to go for... hah...

i'm using wharfedale diamond 9 series speaker...
*
Had my 1010 about 1.5 years ago when the Aventage series was first launched. Go for the 3020 if you have the moolah at least if you want to go for 7.1 + biamp it is future proof. Bought the 1010 cos I was really tight on my budget at that time.

Agreed with the comments by htkia. Dont know why the PSB speakers clicks very well with Yamaha series AVR. Have driven my PSB speakers with Pioneer before but just dont have the spaciousness and enveloping sound that the Yamaha provide.
