QUOTE(stevenc68 @ Jan 13 2010, 11:45 AM) Hi, Most HTiB speakers rated at 4ohm...pls check and I don't think the V465 can drive 4ohm speakers.....however if you don't play at loud volume, maybe it should be ok.Was wondering whether anyone can advise me if i get the RX-V465, can i still use my Pioneer HTZ-333DVD HTS speakers (rated at 100W each)? How do one decide on whether the speakers can be re-used? I don't want to buy too high end of receiver and bomb the speakers nor do I want to buy too low end and get too soft a sound. Anyone can advise? |

QUOTE(lightning69 @ Jan 25 2010, 11:52 PM) the last time I remember my brother tried out Ironman 1080 mkv vs Original Bluray, those present can't tell a difference. Not trying to create flamewar here but the difference(i am sure there is some) is really hard to notice for normal viewing distance. I guess the same can be said about the sound too. DD = 448kbpsdts = 640kbps TrueHD = 2-6Mbps DTS-MA = 2-6Mbps if no diff, what is inside those additional data? |

QUOTE I guess the same can be said about the sound too. Guess is the key word.....he never had actually listen to any of it.... Unless you are really really in-sensitive towards sound or have hearing problem, I believe you can hear the different, heck, even my wife can hear the different To me, BD improvement on sound is larger than the PQ, an excellence bit rate SD DVD upscale using a very good scaler like ABT, Reon or DCDi, can be very closed (like 75%) of BD PQ, but if you are very satisfy with Astro SD quality than no point to even try 720p mkv PQ |

QUOTE(minimize @ Feb 2 2010, 11:06 PM) Yes u correct. That file is audio only. Video size is 12.3GB (1080p) + TrueHD audio 4.31GB = almost 20GB. Almost size of normal BD already. Hehehe |

QUOTE(nocar @ Jul 8 2010, 11:17 AM) Guys, your DVD player dont't have optical or coaxial out?At the moment, I'm connecting the DVD component video output to the LCD tv and the DVD stereo audio output (Red-White) to the RXV465. I'm thinking of connecting the DVD component video to the receiver and then connect the receiver HDMI to the LCD tv HDMI input for video. Shall this work? Which one is much better? should be:- DVDP (component & optical/coaxial(digital out) --> RXV465 --> HDMI --> LCD TV (remember to set the DVDP at audio out using digital/bitstream) This will give you the optimum usage, or if your DVDP have HDMI out, just use that to connect to the RXV465 and HDMI out to TV This post has been edited by mpyw: Jul 8 2010, 12:51 PM |

QUOTE(artman @ Oct 11 2010, 02:44 PM) Hi Sifu, just check out Desa selling Yamaha AVR RX-V367 at RM990 only. Is it sufficient for entry level? For PS3 & Media movies usage... if you have normal easy to drive speakers and not listening to very loud volume (like over 90db) for a long period...should work just fine |

QUOTE(yongkailoon @ Dec 26 2010, 06:09 PM) Nope, the box didn't write anything except stating it's for video. It's quite a cheap cable, the shop claimed that it is from Taiwan. if u plug in to a video port --> it carry video signalSo wait, does this mean even if it is written that the cable is for video, it will carry audio signals across too? I need to know this so that I know whether I need to go back to the shop to exchange or not. Thing is I don't have new amp or receiver yet, that will probably come after new year so can't test the cable now. if u plug in to an audio port --> it carry audio signal 75ohm cable can do both, when I was young & broke last time, I use the Red/White/yellow cable as my RGB component cable and another Red/white as audio and the yellow one as my sub woofer cable....works fine |

you can turn off the scalling...select HDMI Through....but I don't think the V471 can do scalling to HDMI input.

QUOTE(supersound @ Mar 26 2015, 09:07 PM) I never bother on this, Dolby surround, DTS or THX. Most (if not all) of the current audio mixes for DVD or bluray is based on either Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS (for Digital Theater Sound) lossy (or compressed mixed), and for bluray mostly DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHDFor me, getting the first 5.1 channel right will be more important. If a person can do this right in the first place, adding another pair(s) of speakers won't give good effect on HT enjoyment. Unless all of your movie is encoded in PCM 5.1 or LPCM 5.1, you are using the surround audio setup, and THX is not an audio standard. |

QUOTE(supersound @ Mar 30 2015, 02:40 PM) I already following government's advise on cutting cost of living. those downloaded mkv or whatsoever format still comes with AC3 5.1 (Dolby Digital 5.1)So no DVD5/9, just download Are those encoded in PCM/LPCM like you say? Nobody will knows This is like chasing shadow game, getting something that we don't require no streaming or downloaded material will use PCM/LPCM as it take up huge bandwidth, so you will still be using a very standard surround mixes by either Dolby/DTS also, for someone mentioning Dolby Atmos / DTS:X / AURO 3D as additional discrete audio channel, that is incorrect, as the new format is mixed using an object based mix and the sound output will depend on how many speakers you installed in your system and not like if you don't have rear speakers then the rear sound will go missing Try go to those showroom with Atmos setup and listen by yourself then only decide if you can here the different. |

QUOTE(supersound @ Mar 30 2015, 03:37 PM) Some, but not all 5007? Marantz? As for testing, we should go for AB blind test to verify is Atmos really good I'll be using my 5007's last 2 channel to fire downward from ceiling If it is Marantz SR-5007, connect the rear speaker output and place the spk in ceiling firing down does not make atmos run as it need a newer AVR which can decode the extra layer of atmos info that being added to the primary Dolby TrueHD layer If you just use the rear spk out to firing down from ceiling, you are merely let the audio of the rear surround to sound from the ceiling, which will be weirdly sound |
