Hi to all the shifu here, i recently got a yamaha rx-v671 amp for my living room, but as this is my first home theater set, was wondering what would be a speaker set to hook up to the amp, budget around RM5k +- like a 5.1 set, been doing quite abit of research but got so many choices haha.

Size matters? You may consider something like the KEF KHT3005SE which is around that price range OR if you're into big speakers, at this price, they're quite square and boxy. There're many decent brands for i would recommend you B&W 600 series and KEF Q series, as always brows.gif

Look and shop around, there're some other brands you may also consider as B&W/KEF might not be your type of sound but they're generally very good. For your Yammy, i'll recommend KEF as B&Ws are more difficult to push.

Need to ask....

Why my rxv 1067 after 5 minutes play then suddenly auto switch off...on back the same thing happen again...over a year already my amp.

Dont waste your $ on changing the power cord. If it has been functioning for the past one year, likely your power supplies isnt the issue.

I suspected the protection circuitry is the cause. One of the sensors must have sent the wrong signal back to the CPU triggering the shut down to protect the system itself. Another possible cause is the voltage fluctuation, however, if your 5 mins shut down can be repeatedly achieved without given soundtrack, volume gain or time, then the voltage fluctuation shouldnt be the main problem.

As well, did you changed your speakers, speakers cables lately before the Yammie went into shut down mode? Some speakers are very hard to drive which can cause the amplifier to oscillate and shut down. Loose speaker cables or shorting of them will trigger immediate shut down of the amplifier so i doubt it'll be the case.

Do check them all but i think your amp needs a service sweat.gif

Last time this issue is because of the speaker cable not properly connected...btw thanx for ur  advise!

But this time i really dunno... doh.gif

I afraid you need to recheck your speaker connections once more to confirm they're well secured.

If you're sure of it, then there's a chance that the loose speaker cables connection has caused damage to your amp. There shouldnt be a power supplies issue so dont waste $ changing the power cord.

Do a quick test. Take all your speaker cables off from the receiver and run it with the same volume gain for the 5 mins and see if it shuts down. If it does, then it's internal problem of the amp already else then it has got to do with the speakers/speakers cable as well but can still come back to your amp when there's the load then it got shut down.

I just bought a Amp RXV-373 together with a speaker system. I get really confused after try to connect my devices. I only manage to connect my bluray DVD player to Plasma TV & Amp and sounds is out from Amplifier speaker system. ( using 2 HDMI cable) 1. HDMI ARC out to Plasma TV. 2. HDMI 1 to BD-DVD Player. Amp to HDMI1 for hearing the sounds.

1. Now how do i connect the device such as PS3, HD Media Player & DVD to maximize the Amp Speaker system ?
2. TV as optional when i want to use Amp speaker for more sounds omph ?

*Plasma TV - Panasonic with 3 HDMI. HDMI2 is ARC function.
** Yamaha Amp RXV-373 with 4 HDMI input.

Tried plug here n there for 2 hours but dont get the results.

Appreciate sifu here can give some advise.

Your RXV-373 (referred as receiver here) should have a few hdmi in and 1 - 2 HDMI out. Connect your bluray player hdmi out to your receiver hdmi in and connect the hdmi out from the receiver to your tv just for the video out. Connect the rest of the components you have using the hdmi to your receiver or component video, s video, composite video or analog audio into your receiver accordingly. You'll have to setup in your receiver of each input to capture the respective sources accordingly.

The hdmi out from your receiver should be connected to your hdmi 2 of the tv to enable the ARC feature if your receiver allows it. Remember to set your receiver to decode all the sound of the hdmi (some referred as "amp mode" in the manual) so the sound will be output through your speaker system.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm choosing v473 because i'm interested in the network function it have. HarveyNorman quoted the receiver around 1.6k and speaker about 900.
As for sound quality, i don't have much demand, just would like to know if i have other choice besides the yamaha speakers.

went to A&L @ Amcorp last Sat but i kinda feel embarrassed because it seems like they don't cater to poor guy like me. A sales guys quoted me the cheapest bundle set to start at around $4k. So guys, you sure they have entry level stuff too? I don't mind going again if they have.

Lolx..sometimes these ppl also not consistent one..maybe did some high end deals the day before or the week hence still cannot adjust back to the reality that majority of us is still entry level folks. It's good that they actually even entertain you because i usually got their RRP without even a cent discount. Dont know who they're targeting, entry, mid atau high end?

I find hiwaylaser is more consistent in their approach these days which i felt consistency in not discriminating the walk in enquiries irregardless buy on the spot or not is the way to go. If your price is competitive enough, there's no worry that the customer wont buy from you but if we have to pay premium for what's supposed to be attitude to serve you, then i think it's a rip off and there're many shops here in Malaysia that have such attitude..maybe partly due to the spoilt apples as well. Some customers are just unimaginably annoying and unreasonable in their approach.
