Hi everyone, what's your take on these two combo: AVR677 + NS555+444+333+Ns-sw300 OR AVR677 + NSF160 sets of front,middle,surround + ns-sw300? Price different by rm700.

Both I will say is similar. No point going for more expensive one

Just to share my recent adventure in upgrading my HT system. Was looking at Yamaha amp + speakers (spk150/160) and did some auditioning in HN. They are 'OK' but not great, and even HN staff advise to upgrade to other speakers like Jamo. I do like Jamo (606 if I'm not mistaken) but was much expesive than the Spk150/160 that I was testing earlier.

Then did more research and came acrosss Pioneer's Andrew Jones series. Went to HN to audition again and loved them! Much better than the Yamaha speakers (but didn't do side by side comparison with Jamo). However, most places only sell them in bundle with Pioneer avr.

Then went to Desa and was so happy that they sell the speaker set without bundle, and I could choose my own avr. So I got the RXV577 (needeed the wifi) + AJ speakers (5.1) @ rm3800. Slightly above my initial budget but I really love the speakers. Wonderful for movies but more importantly excellent for music as I listen to music alot.

So, if you're looking for a new system and planning to get a Yamaha avr, don't limit yourself to Yamaha speakers. They are many other choices. Also, give AJ series a try.

Yep..old media players definitely won't pass DTS-HD MA, even for new Android boxes, not all can do it.
