my amp is an old model, rx-v420. the audio source is from htpc using optical cable. the problem is i can only surround audio using powerdvd. others like media player only detect stereo.. is it because my amp is too old?
not your amp problem. it's the software player that needs to be configured for spdif audio out.
Just wondering since i dont have a media player, can i just connect my laptop via hdmi into the amp and play the movie so as i could enjoy the 1080p movie? What slot is suitable?
@ esoo88 I would not dare to connect those speakers due to impedance issue. The V473 is meant to drive typical 6-8 ohm speakers. 4 ohm is too low unless you play them at very low volume.
your pioneer subwoofer is a passive subwoofer. that means it needs an external power amp to drive it, which is by your pioneer DVD home theater system head unit. the V473 needs an active subwoofer, a subwoofer with it's own amp (with it's own power chord). The V473 will not power it. The V473 only sends the bass signal to it.
Today pigi Harvey got this fella recommend Yamaha best of all...within budget of 3-4k
Quoted me YHT-473/SPK140/315 for RM3599
Plus he said need to get cables like RM250 then another RM150 for subs cables etc...totaling amount of RM4k....is that reasonable?
I also told him my concern about 5.1 because I can't place my back speakers because I can't drill no more so he recommended me to put on top of the front speakers will do since it does auto-calibration.
I'm so nooob in this not sure who to believe what not now....
Anywhere else I can look around?
Not worth to spend so much money on cables unless you're planning to upgrade in the future.
For the auto calibration, yes... the AVR may auto detect the distance and phase of the speaker and tune all speakers for you...but you should be ready with front field sound only because that's limited by your placement option.
+2 or +6 ? Are you sure the SPL is well calibrated? I doubt so. At this level, you'll need a monster amp to drive the speakers...and a super good speaker for distortion free playback because you're going beyond reference level. Besides that, it's deafening too.
Yes and No... Yes with Yamaha auto calibration but after that manual adjustment because don't really like auto calibration sometimes front speaker they put big..
LFE cut off 60Hz.. will post speaker level configuration tonight...
anyhow how to calibrate properly? or any thread for this?
after yamaha auto calibration, set crossover to 80Hz or 100Hz. speaker size set to small. make sure no double bass...means bass redirected to subwoofer. LFE channel itself should get the maximum 120Hz limit.
if u like more bass...can increase the subwoofer level a little hot. same goes to center speaker level.
Thanks guys... is it ok for surround speaker to mount directly on the wall behind seating position n facing the opposite wall (TV)? Or is it a must to mount with an angle as shown in image below? [attachmentid=3923079]
If this is the situation, anybody know where to buy adjustable side clamp wall mount bracket such as this one, other than jalan pasar? I've been there but couldnt find one.. [attachmentid=3923084]
For 5.1 setup, the surround speaker is placed at 110 degree (just like the picture).
anyone with RXV 377 here, I tried setting up the FM antenna but it doesn't work, I plugged in behind and wave that wire around and it is not picking up anything, total silent, help?
try it with a tv antenna that is proven with good reception
Musical side also not that good for Pioneer. Again, before I get flamed, I want to point out that only the lower end series of Pioneer is like that, higher end(LX) are better, but again with that price, I can get other brand that can do the saem
proper ceiling spkrs would need proper dual driver and tis is harder to fix up on a plaster ceiling
could you pls clarify on the underlined part? are you depending on the plaster ceiling to fully support the weight on the speakers?

Is it necessary to have same length of wire for our speaker, example one side need 20feet the other side 17feet n is it we have to make 20feet per side or just fpllow the measurement.
having the same length is moot because AVR/prepro has speaker distance and spl adjustment.... unless you're using pure direct signal on hifi components with zero processing.
