Just use the LFE output from ur AVR and hook up to the Low Level Input. I believe this is a powered sub?

anfieldude, thanks for your reply. Sorry I am totally new and noob to the terms of home entertainment. Could you describe more?

I am not sure is this a powered sub or not. The brand is Athena and I dont know the model cos it didnt show at the sub. I think its a very old model.

Is using the high level input give better quality sound? But its hard to find the right cable for this input. Last resort is to use the low level input I guess.

Powered sub - does your sub have its own power cord and power switch? If yes, then it's a powered sub and it has its own amplifier inside.

Most powered subs will use the low level input. The cable you need is the normal RCA cable (like those you connect for Astro audio out, with the red or white RCA plug).

You just need one (either white or red is fine) and connect from your LFE out in the AVR to the low level input in the sub.

jchong, thanks for your reply, yes it have its own power cable and require another plug point. The round black switch with the white dot is the on and off button.

I see, I thought sub will require a different cable than those normally used for gaming console and astro.

Does it make any different for my cheap sub to use expensive cables like monster cable compared to the normal RCA cable?

Not really as long as you do not run the cord to long...However, u experience a hum, then u need to get a better shielded cable. Of course, it does not hurt to get a decent cable, but the LFE (.1) does not carry too much info.

The better cables are normally better shielded and carry the the low frequency low bandwidth signals better.

aiman04, yes it is a subwoofer. I just bought it yesteday from a shop in mid valley. I think I kena conned for it. But nvm.

Yes that is a full back view. Front is just a hole in the middle with 2 tuning buttons for volume and base level. Side is nothing. The speaker itself is facing the floor.

Its probably very old model and thats why you dont recognize it.

Using it for home theater. I paid RM 600 for it. Power cable and subwoofer cable are not included.

According to the shop keeper it is only on the display shelf for about 6 months. But after checking it under better lights. More like 6 years. Screws are all rusty, scratches and some paint coming off.

That shop got my contact number. Better not say too much. But I think its only 1 shop in Mid Valley selling AV stuffs.

The first thing the shop attendant did was to swipe my card. Then later wrap the sub with transperant foil. Thats it. I was like "WTF?! No box, no manuals, no warranty card, no cables?". Already too late, cannot refund.

My fault anyway, tamak murah. Should have pay more to buy a new Yamaha sub. Lesson learned.

Nah, don't spend on expensive cables for a cheap sub. Not worth it.

Try to go to an electronics shop and see if they have Belden shielded cable. Will probably be around RM10 per meter.

Sounds to me like the sub is second hand. Probably the owner traded it in to buy something from the shop, and now the shop has to sell it off. If it is demo stock they should still have the box, manual, etc.

Good that you mention it, then others can avoid this shop.

Thanks jchong. I will try to ask around for Belden shielded cable.

Yes are you right, I come to realized that when they shop just hand over the sub wrapped just in transparent foil. At first I thought its a old stock thats why got discount. Then I ask where is the box, manual and etc. She just tell me "Oh this sub doesnt come with those". I ask "Why not?" and she just walk around ignoring me and entertaining other customer.

Before I leave the shop, I said to her "If you would have tell me this is an old second hand unit earlier. I would pay RM200 extra to buy a new Yamaha sub". I feel violated. I am newbie in AV stuffs, but doesnt have to con me like that, right?

Ya, anyway yesterday I went to ask places like Onking, Best Denki, Harvey Norman, Jusco, Carrefour and etc. They dont have Belden shielded cable. All they have is the expensive Monster cable or RCA cable.

Anyone have any idea which shop around Puchong, Sunway, Subang or Old Klang Road I can find such cable?

Currently I am using my spare Astro RCA cable. Furtunately the sub is working. But I can hear buzzing sound. Not sure from the sub or from my windows due to the vibrations.

A question, what is Bass Range? I have this tuning button and I tried tuning it to the lowest 50 and then highest 150, like no different at all. What is the purpose or usage of Bass Range?

Thanks.
