Hey guys, last few days my 1.x years old persona started giving out weird screeching sounds from the front wheel area...this is different from the knocking sound from the front wheel that is so famous in the persona when going over bumps. This sound is a screeching sound and it happens even when travelling on a perfectly smooth road. however, the sound seems to be quite random. When i'm driving, 50% of the time i can hear the sound and the other 50% the car is normal.

Anyone ever encountered the same problem? My car is in the SC now being troubleshooted..hope they find the problem lol. Thanks abunch for your input.

Update: The SC says that my brake pads are worn out..need to replace..the options are
ORI set : bosch - RM 350 (too exp)
Locus (not sure of name) : RM 140, never heard of it before, any input?
Mintye : RM 100 but not goin to go for this as it has bad reviews.

So i told him that i want to buy my own pads and let him install. He says service charge is RM 50. Is this reasonable?
Btw, i'm looking to buy a Rapid Stop pair. Do you know where i can get a pair of this quick? does ENEOS@ 1 utama carry this brand? And may i know the estimated price for RS pads? Thank you.

screeching sound? can it be the brakes are not properly released and still touching the disc?

is your ride lowered? maybe the car tyre touching the chassis?
*
It's 33,000 km since i got my ride. No problem so far. Unless all this while the brakes not properly released? My ride is unmodified, everything is stock standard. btw, i've updated my original post with the input from the SC. Any further advice?

It is Lucas  smile.gif DON, Lucas all also not bad..acceptable quality. If i had the money, i would go for EBC..

Screeching sound? Is it the brake pad wear indicator(metal) squeek..?
*
Yeah i just went over to the SC during lunch time and confirmed it. It's Lucas. But what does DON mean? Is it the pad model? How much for a EBC pad? my budget is max RM 150 wor. Also, may i ask where to buy those brake pads? such as RS, Bendix, EBC? preferably within PJ area. Does ENEOS @ 1 Utama carry those brands? Thanks in advance...

Arr.i am from Pg..no idea for southern region market  sad.gif You can go to spare parts shop to look for it...
DON is a brand. It is a reputable and good brand but i don't see it anymore?? i think they stop their own brand and oem for other makers?

BENDIX..either Metal King titanium or CT General titanium stripe..cost around rm120 for front.

RS - You can search at garage sales-automotive forum..

EBC Black stuff..around rm180..
EBC Green stuff...rm400  smile.gif this is good stuff.. smile.gif

FeRoDo ZeRo - around rm110. Abit noisy..

Thank you for your input. I checked with an accesorries shop. Quoted me RM 110 for Bendix Metal King Titanium. So i placed an order with him. This model should be okay right? with adequate stopping power and long life. however, based on reviews i read, the Bendix MKT is harsh on the discs? how true is this may i know? Have you tried using MKT before?

Next up, installation. The proton SC quoted me RM 40 for installation. Is this a fair price? or can i do it elsewhere for much cheaper?

Thanks in advance for your kind assistance ralf bro.

Hey guys,

Today my 1.5 year old persona could not start. When i turned the ignition, a loud 'tak tak tak' sound came up. There was no sound of engine struggling to crank at all. After a jump start, the car was able to start as usual. This is the second time this happened. My headlights were definitely turned off last night when i reached home. Any idea what could be draining the battery? or is there some other explanation ? (faulty alternator perhaps?).

An interesting fact to note is that for both incidents, i found the boot not closed properly. Could the alarm be silently draining the battery if i happen to leave the boot opened?

Thank you for your assistance.

I agree.  I'm 90% sure its a battery problem.

Alright. However, just want to know how long does a typical proton battery last? And how much will a new battery cost me (just to check to ensure SC don't overcharge me)?

Thank you very much guys.

Battery lifespan is very subjective and differs from every car brands out there. Different car brands have different  designs which effects the battery lifespan. But normally is 1 year plus to 3 years if lucky. Some damn lucky fellas might even reach 4 years.

It differs from each drivers as well. Like for example, if the driver does a lot of start and stop / short trips. The alternator does not have enough time to charge the battery in such short time. If the car is fitted with aftermarket parts hooked onto the existing electrical grid, more power is consumed in which in return, well... u get the picture right?!

For battery check and replacement, do not go to SC. They will slaughter you while u are still breathing. Just go to the tyre shops / battery shops in ur area and have a look around for the pricing. Dry cell or wet cell. Your pick. Both more less the same in terms of life span. Dry cell is maintainence free, the later is not.

Cost wise.... you are looking in the range of 140 to 200 depending on brand and type eg. wet or dry cell. Happy shopping!!!!!

i change mine last may....i change to GP maintenance free battery DIN55 that costs RM240....but i advise you take water type battery as it would last longer maybe 2-3years or more compare to maintenance free ones that usually 1-2years... doh.gif ...just change at outside..la....SC will stock back the same battery or try to ask for claim....

mine already 2 years n battery still fine..

hoping it will last longer sweat.gif

juz for a note, i seldom switch on my cd player n radio...

Thank you very much for your input. Since jump starting my car this morning, it has been running fine until now. But if the battery drains again I'll have no choice but to go battery hunting. I totally agree with you 2Fast2Furious on the point that SC will slaughter us for consumable parts. For e.g. an SC once tried to sell me Bosch brake pads for RM350/pair and I don't think it is even the one that is made in Germany as I couldn't see any 'Made in Germany' sign. Rather I think it is the local OEM manufactured one. In my opinion, I agree with loong2020 that a wet cell is better because the wet cell in my previous car which was a Wira gave me no problems for about 3 years. Or is it just that the stock dry cell that is provided with our personas are super low grade and short lifespan?

Anyway thank you once again for all your input. It is very valuable. Goodnight.

bro, from what you wrote earlier, both incident happened when the boot was not closed properly? If like this, then the boot lamp sure will drain your battery i guess  hmm.gif  the boot loose or because of your negligence?
*
Yeah I suspect that might be the reason too. But I really didn't notice my boot being not properly closed at all. It really baffles me how this could happen twice and both times it was my boot that was not shut properly. Hmmm...weird...

That's why Proton SC = Proton SCammer.  Selling stuff for way way way above market value.  I do not mind if they sell say 5% above market value just to justify their "official" status, bu c'mon laaaa..... Bosch OEM brake pad at 350/pair???
*
Yea. Totally agreed. And apparently I heard that regular service (oil change, oil filter change) only costs about RM 30 for labour at regular mechanics (do correct me if I wrong) but proton SC charging RM 50++. We are paying all these premiums just because of the warranty. That is why I am not going to purchase consumables from them (non-warranty covered items such as brake pads, batteries, wiper blades etc etc). We should also start a list of places where cheap consumables can be sourced so that other forummers can benefit. You guys game?

how much is bendix general CT cost for persona ? btw I think my windscreen water sprayer doesn't work.
*
About RM 110 per pair at accessories shops. Installation should be about RM 20 only. So all together it's RM 130. If you go to car workshops and ask them to source the pads for you, they will charge about RM 150 for everything (pads + labour). Btw, I am using Bendix Metal King Titanium and it is also RM 110 per pair. Good stopping power...
