Huhu one thing bad bout WD is tht are their drives are hot and I do mean it =)But its reliability is unquestionable but depends on luck as well huhu

seagate drives are cooler than WD's but the problem that makes people hate em is becoz of the firmware problems rclxms.gif

hehehe, normal la, 1 mistake can ruin and destroy all their reputation.. feel bad bout seagate, but my little bro's pc has old 9 gb seagate, has a leather cover somemore i think hehhe tongue.gif still alive and operate well.. flex.gif im not sure how old it is but judging from it size, i gues it must be damm old already..prove how reliable seagate was before.. im sure they are reliable now, but it will takes sometime before all customers gain their trust back to seagate, icon_rolleyes.gif

It was the 7200.11 that got bugged and not the 7200.12. rolleyes.gif

Come on guys, that horse is dead. Just advice people to stay away from 7200.11 firmware.

You could try looking at Samsung. They have produced some hard disks that performs much better than WD or Seagates in certain capacities, for a while until WD and Seagate catches up.

If performance is important, you should check platter density. Hard disks with 500 GB per platter performs better than those with 333 GB per platter or 250 GB per platter.

Why not Samsung and Hitachi?
Hitachi = 3 years warranty 1 to 1 exchange, no need to wait for RMA
Samsung = Fast, cool, cheap.

I'm using both SG 7200.12 500GB and WD Green 500GB in my rig. Both are very nice. I use SG as main hdd; WD Green runs very cool and quiet, best for data storage.

Honestly any brand will do fine except the problematic models imho. WD and Seagate both have failed me before also but some are still in service until now. TS, looking for what size? 1TB, samsung is worth looking into it as well.
1TB pricing Seagate 7200.12 RM292, Samsung F1 RM285, WD Green RM295 and Black RM345. All 3yrs warranty except Black 5yrs. i think 7200.12/F1/Black are same category as performance drive tongue.gif

Wd 1TB caviar green died on my twice within 4 months. so sent back for warranty claim and at the mean time bought a 1tb caviar black for replacement.

but my 2 caviar green 640Gbs are running fine.
