The 35 and 50mm f1.8 lenses are totally different lenses. 50mm on DX is approx 75mm which is approx double the focal length of the 35mm. 35 for DX is more of a "normal" lens whereas the 50 is more of a portrait and medium tele lens.

Anyway having used both, I prefer the 35mm in terms of image quality and a smoother bokeh. At f1.8 you will see the big difference.

i tot 50mm will give greater bokeh coz if u set both lens at 1.8, 50mm with greater focal length and it'll produce greater bokeh? is it supposed to be that way?

i always hear ppl saying that 50mm is 75mm on full frame or etc.. but i dun really understand it. do u have picture example?

That is inaccurate  smile.gif , refering to the info posted on the first page of this thread:

"While for the "AF" or "AF-D" lens from Nikon, it still can be mount on the camera, but since there is no AF motor in both the camera body as well as the lens, then the user have to work on for manual focus ONLY. On the other hand, the medium to high end of Nikon camera body will come with build-in AF motor, hence it allow the user to achieve autofocus through the camera's motor rotating the lens' element."

i understand that. but why 1 with d and 1 without d? what does the d means?

err...we say 50mm is 75mm on full frame because our camera is DX, so our camera got crop factor of 1.5...and 50x1.5=75mm...full frame camera are more expensive such as D700, D3, and D3x

i read about the crop factor somewhere. if 50mm is 75 full frame, then what is 35? and how will they look like? what will 50mm and 35mm diff in terms of pic? sorry, for asking so much and so detail. i can't imagine without seeing the pic? or anyone with pic can share?

DX camera is 1.5 crop factors at sensor
if using 50mm lens
means 50mm x 1.5 = 75mm

while FX camera is full frame. there is no crop factors therefore using DX 50mm will be same as FX using 75mm
*
so does that mean that i have to use a DX 35mm to get a 50mm FX?

a brand new 50mm 1.8 is RM370. how much do u think the used ones is worth buying? someone is selling it at RM350. RM20 diff. might as well buy new ones.

talking about the crop factor right, a 50mm is like a 75mm fx. so if i wanna make it looks like a 50mm fx, i'll have to step back away from my subject. so after the crop factor, i'll get the closer pic of my subject. can it work that way? instead of focusing my subject closer and the side of the pic will be crop away.
