I've been playing both series since SFII & KOF94, these 2 series has always been the main 2D fighting games for over the decades. I've stopped playing SF series since Zero 2 & KOF since 2002 due to the huge change from the original series.

Am wondering of the 2 series, which one do you like more. Both might be 2D fighting but they are quite different in terms of game play and style, well until now they start to play alike...

Street Fighter always have those bright, colorful, hot blooded theme while King of Fighters comes with darker, cooler, more stylish theme.

Kinda miss the older theme & gameplay of King Of Fighters (94-01), nowadays it's turning from lifelike to anime like style, since SNK went bankrupt.

My personal opinion la:

Super SF2 Turbo > KOF 94, KOF 95
SF3 2nd, 3rd < KOF 98
SFIV > KOF XII

The KOF series start to bleh after 98.

BTW, how many of you remember all the old SNK fighting games? Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, World Heroes (haha) and Samurai Showdown.

I remember most games on Neo Geo system, I like both Super SF II Turbo & KOF series, but what attracts me is the art style of KOF, when it was 1st introduced it was so different from other games, detailed background, nice music, stylish characters, fixed team system, unique characters, potential good storyline, made other fighting games looks kiddy. But SF II is still cool, just in a different way.

KOF 98 marks the full chapter of Orichi Sage (which ended in 97), new Nest storyline was crap but until 2002 it maintained the classic KOF style, then SNK Playmore took charge and started with all these new Korean style drawing, which really not that appealing.

The original KOF illustrator then went to Capcom, that's why you see Capcom game (arcade & consoles) illustrations for the years after 2002 looks just like the older KOF series.

You just sparked a never ending battle of debates between people. tongue.gif

I remember how it was so brutally painful for people to accept SF4 was going for the 3D route in a 2D scape. When it was released, immediately people were chanting that SF4 set the benchmark, especially when the same people wanted to head to the KOF camp with their 2D graphics. The jaggies in XII were completely intentional to maintain that old feeling of playing a hardened series that have been with the old timers for so long.

I like the graphics, but having to relearn the whole system and timing was the real challenge. That's the real major complaint. I do love SF4 because of the tightness of the timing, but the "Kung Fu Approach" is a little letdown (stringing low punch and kicks to medium or high attacks).

In the end, i realized that it's best to enjoy fighting games as you go. whatever series, a good beatdown will always be hard to resist. biggrin.gif

Actually it wasn't painful at all, much less brutally. People were basically begging for a true successor to Super SSF2 Turbo, but they didn't want another EX or 3rd Strike.

3D is just a presentation, the gameplay is 2D.

Street Fighter is better in my opinion. But I only play the old version like SF Zero 1, 2 and 3. And the latest 1.
