If I use AGPS, it's also a few seconds. But pure GPS I always take some time to lock on.

Doesn't lag for me~ Im using this http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...online-kitchen/

Rooted stock 2.1 with new radio, overclocked. Very smooth loh, previously MCR 3.2, speed almost same, or even better
*
Says he removed the Chinese specific functionality like HTC_CIME.
Did you manage to re-install it?
For old Modaco version 3.2, I used 3.0-beta1-update-hero-modacocustomrom-chinese-signed.zip.

Well, I didnt really bother about Chinese Input~ So, no. I'm just loving this 2.1 and speed, allot faster compared to Villain 6.2, and of course BUG FREE (except HTC Sync for me sleep.gif)

Just installed the Taiwanese ROM too. WiFi and GSM connectivity works good so far. smile.gif

If Malaysia official release is provided, it better not have SlideME again.

My Hero wouldnt sync with my pc also after official 2.1~ Probably need to wait for new SYNC version.
*
Mine can still sync I think. At least, HTC Sync still detects me Hero without problems.
I used the ROM uploaded by Paul at Modaco, but not the kitchen version.

Same. Could be my drivers :S

I had no problems with stock 1.5 and MCR 3.2 though :/

Just want to confirm something. You know in 2.1 you will have to click on the "Charge only: Select to change USB connection type", then change it to "HTC Sync" before sync works?

I flashed the Taiwan ROM the way Cleave described. If you get an error like the following just ignore it, it still worked for me.
mount: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /system/sd failed: No such file or directory

I don't think there's an illegal way to upgrade your Hero, unless you force someone at knife point to upgrade for you for free. tongue.gif

Seriously though I couldn't be arsed to wait for the official update to come to Malaysian shores, so I just flashed the rooted Taiwan 2.1 version.

the language ? taiwanese ? any problems ?
*
The link I posted has the Chinese language pack (HTC_CIME) removed.
I've been using it for about a week or so, no problems. In fact I find it much faster and responsive than 1.5.
WiFi, AGPS, BlueTooth, Mobile connectivity all work without problems.

Since the official OTA will prevent rooting and installing custom recovery images, I'll just stick to MoDaCo's rooted Taiwan version.

LEVIATHAN: Thanks for posting the Singapore radio. I notice the name is slightly different from the Taiwan one. Do you recommend we use it?
CODE

63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.14 - Singapore
63.18.55.06OU_6.35.15.01 - Taiwan

Is there a Malaysian version btw?

Okay, I flashed the Singapore radio (63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.14) uploaded by LEVIATHAN to use with my MoDaCo Chungwa ROM.

Testing it right now. So far WiFi and Mobile Internet work.

Careful. If you downgrade and get the official versions, you might have trouble rooting again later.

The Chungwa ROM works fine for me. Been using it for a few weeks.
Never crashed.
Can feel it's faster than 1.5 ROMs. Even when turning on/off the screen.

Out of curiosity, for those of you who bought original Malaysian SIS sets and are using the original default ROM installed, after upgrading to 2.1 do you get Android Market or still stuck with SlideME?

There's a bunch of HTC Sense stuff in Nexus/Desire not available in Hero even though both run on Android 2.1.

I'm using the MoDaCo rooted Taiwan ROM. Not the MCR WIP r4/r5 one. The Messages application works fine with me. Did you do a full wipe before flashing the ROM? I did.

besides hardware,

is there a major difference in the softwares?

There will probably be a 2.2 official update for Legend. Legend already comes with 2.1 by default. I don't know if the Hero sets they sell now are automatically using 2.1, but by default Hero came with 1.5. I suggest going for Legend.
