Two weeks have passed...
alright... the above is a case of Chronic Osteomyelitis of the right tibia (with multiple puss draining sinuses)...

Patient is a farmer, ignorant to modern medical care, sees quacks first during early stage of the disease (ayurveda, Hindu priests in temple, etc), condition got worse as seen above -> then he goes to hospital...

We in Malaysia wouldn't have allowed for such disease to progress to this level... Most Malaysians would have gone straight to the hospital for treatment before the above can even occur (except a few quack-believing Malaysians)....

I'll post more interesting cases in a day or two... for now, Medical students here can see how Chronic Osteomyelitis can present as....

Added on December 16, 2010, 4:21 pm... and the following are some of the differences between Malaysian and Indian health care system, with regards to private medical clinics and pharmacies (Warning - images are very large):

In India, Private clinics don't dispense medicines - that is solely done by the pharmacy. Doctor sees patient, make dx and treat, then gives prescription for the patient, the patient then buys the medicines from any pharmacy outside...

As you all can see from the first picture, a pharmacy is conveniently located beside a private clinic...

in kelantan, u can expect to see abundant of patients who came at late or terminal stage. One of the common cases that we see here is stage 3/4 breast cancer. Many would not come until they are done with at least 3 bomohs and fungating like hell. I guess Kelantan here is still very much 3rd world. Even worse some are not even willing to do mastectomy because their husband will file a divorce if she do so. What a douche bag!!

Blood pressure in paediatric patients are according to the centile chart for age or height. The one according to age is more commonly use. The reference value is inside the paediatrics protocol. I thought every clinical year student or doctor should at least know that.... rolleyes.gif

guys
i know the fact that children BP should be lower than adult
but i need to know the specific value for each age group (newborn, infant, young children and older children)

for example: peadiatrics normal resting pulse
age -------------------------- beats/min
<1 year -------------------------110-160
2-5 years------------------------- 95-140
5-12 years-------------------------80-120
>12 years  ---------------------------60-100

taken from book
but i couldnt for BP
of course BP cant be the same as adult
just look at the pulse
only child above 12 years old, the pulse value became same as adult

the reference values are stated in paediatrics protocols for malaysian hospitals 2nd edition page 3. Seriously, if u are local student then u should really get that book. Just rm15. Or u can download from MPA website. good luck!

If u can afford then going overseas is surely the better choice. Though there are a few good ipts like imu or pmc but most local med school are lack of academic staffs. The fees in imu or pmc etc are not cheap either. Better go to australia or uk to study.
But my advice is don't take up medicine if u r not passionate to become a doctor. For those who r thinking of money, fame etc might have to reconsider because in 5 years time, doctors might be jobless. Now already there's a glut of HO in all hospitals. Spending so much money is no longer a good investment

i think with 30 medical schools in our country, we don't need to send any scholar to countries like indon, india, russia or egypt anymore. the gomen should improve the facilities and recruit more qualified lecturers rather than those maynmar, india and bangladesh lecturers who don't have much clinical knowledge. by the way, now we r the country with the highest number of medical schools per capita in the world! malaysia boleh!!

Yea. I got what he was saying. I am trying to visualise a situation when one is treated or attended to by Egypt graduated doctors.
*
well, that is not surprising. Recently, we were shocked to know that there are 5000 medical students in egypt currently, which translate to approx 1000 per year. the 1st batch i believe gonna graduate soon this year. Just for the info, last year there were around 5000 new HO working in our hospitals. the number might reach 7000 this year. The best part is, more than half are not well trained. god bless malaysia
also, out of the 30(31 soon) medical schools in malaysia, more than half are yet to produce graduates...in 2015, you throw a stone and u'll hit 2 doctors on the street whistling.gif

That's what a doctor told me. By 5-10 years, doctors will be like people so sells toys down the street. laugh.gif
*
or they really have to sell toys!! coz the post UD41 will be saturated soon. Which means the government can no longer provide housemanship training for newly graduate doctors. They have to wait for the old HO to complete their housemanship and upgrade to UD44 before new post available. If this trend continues, don't surprise to see MBBS or MD holder trying to sell u toys in the future tongue.gif

no offense but in malaysia, as long as u have money, getting into any private medical schools is not a prob. For those who did REALLY bad still can enter as long as they complete the sure pass foundation. Not sure bout overseas though

Degree not from John Hopkins nor taught by john hopkins standards?
Doctor degree fr Perdana University? hmm.gif
*
what u r getting is just perdana degree. The teaching staffs are not from John Hopkins either. Basically there's no difference with any other private medical schools in malaysia. In the degree it is just stated collaboration with John Hopkins. They just follow their curriculum and students need to pass USMLE in the end. For ur info, perdana degree is not recognised anywhere except malaysia and USMLE can be undertaken by any students. So all the hoo-ha about the John Hopkins is just to mislead potential students. Not to forget the fees is extremely expensive. It's even more expensive than the genuine John Hopkins in US
