There are 2 interpretations to that statement.

1) The standard of medical education has stagnated in Malaysia, while other countries have moved forward.
2) The standard of medical education has fallen in Malaysia.

Either way, Malaysia cannot go on like this, where a medical education has been cheapened, to quote a education agent ad, "a doctor in every family".

We do not need a brilliant top class doctor.  We need all our doctors to be proficient and competent.

Today my friend just told me that medicine can earn big bucks, thats why he choose medicine.

what do you want to know?.....

as a general comment, any institution of higher learning that base their admission NOT on merit but on ethnicity, is a racist establishment, and not worth fussing about........

go to any of the top 100 unis in the world, go to their website front page, and read their underlying philosophy/mission/vision etc......what do you see?......they all avow the BEST education to all on merit, irrespective of their attributes like gender, ethnicity, creed, religion, etc........many have clearly stated non-discriminatory policy statements.......

and uitm?.....

the uitm programme is new, so it remains to be seen about the quality......however, based on the very nature of the place, and the type of students that usually ends up in uitm, i think all the issues about sub-optimal student selection and b and c grade students will apply........

he is just saying the politically correct thing.....

this education minister will go down in msian history as the worst, the least aware about issues, and the most political......decisions are made for political expediency than usefulness or good.......

as for the 'demand' for medical studies, he is of course complete off the mark with his comments....'demands' should be based on the needs of the country and society.....NOT student/parental demands and wishes.....but such concepts are probably alien to him.....
