how do local grads perform in comparison to UK/Oz?
ive heard stories bout russian grads but there have been no significant complaints bout local grads, so local grads cant be that bad right?

well i think limeuu is of the opinion that as future doctors our englidh must be at least comprehensible. lets look at his advice as constructive criticism, and try to improve our english from now on.

msians ,if poor historian coupled with lack of investigative facilities how to diagnose then.

in developed countries, if u have poor history it's ok coz you can always order a multitude of scans and tests lol

yeah all the problems actually sound familiar because theyre probs which you and several others have mentioned many times before. and if i read between the lines correctly, the article implied a certain economic policy as one of the causes. brows.gif am i hallucinating? lol

i wonder did anyone (ministers, MOHE, MMC) pay any attention to that matter 30 yrs ago....did it become a big issue? limeuu and any old timers here , time for a walk down memory lane laugh.gif
however a deputy minister claimed the derecognition is due to EU policies
QUOTE

and if im not mistaken, deducting from the article i posted earlier, there was a period of time when students had to study medicine in BM ? i'm not saying BM is an inferior language , in fact theres nothing wrong with it. but the problem is : how do they get the resources (books , reference materials) in BM?

must have been hard on them , having to consult bilingual dictionaries all the time. oh well, after all japanese students also study med in their native language.

QUOTE(limeuu @ Oct 10 2011, 08:56 AM)
you are confused between dermatology, which is a recognised medical sub-speciality (need to have mrcp/masters first), and aesthetic medicine, which is fringe medicine and has no official standing....

recognition of specialist is increasingly based on registration with the nsr.....when the new medical act is passed, this will become law, and become compulsory, like being registered with mmc as a medical doctor.....

only specified qualifications will be recognised, and this will stop doctors from calling themselves specialists without the necessary qualifications.....

thanks for clearing things up. i actually thought of that yesterday and tried to go on NSR but couldnt due to my lousy internet connection.

hi, how do med students in developed countries find clerking and physical examination ?

i presume it'd be harder for you to get the patient's consent because
1) it's a developed country, people don't view doctor like God compared to a developing country

2) you're a foreigner there, and an Asian. i dunno, but perhaps there's some form of discrimination? at least if you're studying in Indonesia etc you're still in an Asian country.

oh wgy im from a local IPTA. and thx ya for the replies to my question.

and btw clinical vs research elective ... how will it affect us? research probably has more value on a CV, but how useful is a good CV? will it matter in the future. sounds stupid but ive heard ppl saying locally good or bad CV everyone is equal

how come only half of cambridge pre-clinicals go on to do clinicals? is it because the assessment is super tough?

IMHO while it is bad to have lax exam standards, there is no point in having super tough exams to the point where it goes beyond being a test of competency. except maybe to uphold the elitism
