Reds strikers excite Cole

QUOTE
Ex-Red Andrew Cole says United's strike trio of Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen will bag plenty of goals this season.

Speaking at MUTV's Wednesday Night at the Red Cafe programme, Cole, now a regular visitor to Old Trafford as a fan, said: "Rooney has started the season really well. He's ready to step into Ronaldo's shoes. His attitude is 'I'm top, and I'm going to prove it'. He's the man to get 25-30 goals this season."

Cole is well placed to judge the abilities of United's front men, having scored 121 goals in 275 appearances for United. And it's not just Rooney he's impressed with. "It's not easy coming to United in your first season," he adds. "The spotlight is on you straight away and everyone expected Berbatov to get 30 goals last year.

"I don't think he's that type of player, but he brings something different to the team. He's so elegant. Then there's Michael Owen. There aren't many natural finishers around. Sir Alex told me that if he keeps Owen fit he'll get goals."

Rooney central to Utd scoring plans

QUOTE
September 07, 2009

MANCHESTER United manager Sir Alex Ferguson knows Wayne Rooney likes to wander around the pitch but claims the England man is at his most effective when he occupies the centre-forward role.

Rooney has four Premier League goals for United already this season, putting him level with Jermain Defoe at the top of the scoring charts. He has scored against Birmingham and Arsenal, and netted a double at Wigan in United's 5-0 win.

United are keen for Rooney to play a more central role than in previous seasons, with Ferguson believing he can provide the goals to soften the blow of Cristiano Ronaldo's summer exit.

The former Everton striker has welcomed the opportunity, but Ferguson understands the 23-year-old is prone to roaming.

Ferguson told Inside United magazine: "The boy's got a real hunger and drive about him. He has so much energy that sometimes he overdoes it in the sense that he wants to use it all; he'll drop into midfield or he'll go outside left.

"But he's young, and young players tend to sometimes be that way - they want to spend all their energy on the pitch.

"But if he concentrates like he did at Wigan and spends more time in the central areas rather than the wide positions then he will get goals. There's no doubt about that."

Rooney has been a regular scorer since joining United in 2004, however Ferguson suspects Sir Bobby Charlton's club goals record of 249 will be difficult to beat.

"It'll be very tough," Ferguson said. "Sir Bobby's record is 249 goals, so at this stage of Wayne's career I'd say he'll have to do very well to get anywhere near that."

QUOTE
Manchester United's John O'Shea and Aiden McGeady of Celtic have both been excused because of injury, whilst Robbie Keane, Shay Given, Richard Dunne, Kevin Kilbane and Stephen Hunt have also been released back to their clubs.
.
.

He also admitted to holding big worries about O'Shea, adding: "Today, he could not play because he had a bleed on the calf. He couldn't run today.

"I told him to be careful because when you pull that muscle, it is two months.

"It was not just for me, it was also for the club he must decide."

Neville hoping for long run

QUOTE
Gary Neville is finally hoping to be over his injury nightmare.

The Manchester United star has been dogged by injury over the last few years.

He broke his ankle against Bolton in early 2007, which caused him to be sidelined for nearly 12 months.

Numerous muscle niggles have dogged him since his recovery and that has prevented him from playing for England for over two-years.

Having overcome a groin tweak he picked up in pre-season, he is in line to start his second game of the season this weekend against Tottenham.

"I just hope to say as fit as possible and play games for the club," he said.

"I am doing everything I possibly can and the medical staff are helping me as well."

Despite having the likes of Wes Brown, John O'Shea, Rafael and Fabio in his squad - all of whom can play right-back - Neville is confident that he still has something to offer.

"The manager would not have me here if he didn't think I contributed in some way," he said.

"I can contribute a lot more when I am fit."

He is just now hoping that he can go on an injury free run.

"Over the last two years injury has been a concern for me," he admitted.

"It is a concern for every footballer. It is frustrating.

"But it is not something I think about every day. I have just had to deal with it."

If they use Lennon to exploit our LW side, we can use Rooney to exploit their central defense as well. They are without Dawson & Woodgate. Bassong was subbed off injured last weekend when playing for Cameroon and did not play in midweek (injured?).

QUOTE
Tottenham are facing a defensive crisis ahead of their game with Manchester United on Saturday after Sebastien Bassong limped off on his Cameroon debut.

With Harry Redknapp's other central defensive options Michael Dawson and Jonathan Woodgate also injured and Ledley King a permanent doubt due to his knee, the Spurs boss could be forced to turn to Vedran Corluka and even Tom Huddlestone against the champions.

play park ahead of nani to help our LB

that would do, rooney-berba should scare them enough with their defend crisis like taiko alien said...

But then Park will not offer that kind of threats Nani will provide. I can see Evra will not attack as much as he like and if Park not offering that threat as well, our left hand side will be pretty useless attacking wise?

Rio could return at Spurs

QUOTE
Rio Ferdinand may make an ahead-of-schedule return from injury in time for Saturday's trip to Tottenham.

The England international defender has been out of action since the Community Shield due to a thigh injury, but has trained all week and may now feature at White Hart Lane.

"Rio has a chance for Saturday," Sir Alex said. "I’m not sure it’s a big chance but he has a chance.

"We’ve had a good group of players training here at Carrington while the internationals have been going on – Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Anderson, Ji-sung Park... also young Fabio and Michael Owen. So we have a decent squad. In fact, it’s unusual to have that many players here [during the international break]."

Sir Alex confirmed Gary Neville had trained every day after playing for the Reserves last Thursday and will be available for selection on Saturday. John O'Shea, however, is unlikely to be passed fit after returning from international duty with a calf injury.

Despite having a "decent squad" to choose from, the manager knows Saturday's opponents will pose a stern test. Tottenham have started the season brightly, winning all four of their games.

"I watched a couple of videos yesterday and they’ll be a handful for us," Sir Alex said. "But that’s the nature of the Premier League. Hopefully I can pick the right team and get a good result.

"I think Tottenham can break into the top four. Harry’s brought in a few of his own types of players, players he’s familiar with like Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe.

"He’s now got Nico Kranjcar as well from Portsmouth and Wilson Palacios from Wigan, who was a good signing and brought some steel into the midfield.

"They’ve really started well this season there’s a good degree of experience there. I think Tottenham definitely have a realistic chance of breaking into the top four. Them and City are ahead of the rest, I think... then it's Everton and Aston Villa."

Euro exiles explained

QUOTE
Sir Alex admits leaving out Zoran Tosic and Ritchie De Laet from United’s 25-man Champions League squad wasn’t easy.

Neither player – both of whom impressed during pre-season – is eligible to feature in the group stage of the forthcoming campaign, which begins on Tuesday with a tricky fixture in Turkey.

Some papers had suggested Tosic’s exclusion was tantamount to the end of his United career, but Sir Alex was quick to dispel any such rumours.

“It was just a numbers decision,” the manager said. “We have such a massive squad now.

“The difficulty was around what we should do with Owen Hargreaves, whether or not to put him or Zoran in the squad. The other player [who narrowly missed out] was Ritchie De Laet.

“We came down on the side of Hargreaves because, having taken the medical advice, we think he’ll be available for the last three Champions League group-stage games.”

That news, while disappointing for Tosic and De Laet, comes as a big boost for United fans, some of whom had begun to wonder if they’d ever see Hargreaves again in a red shirt.

But the midfielder is due back at Carrington towards the end of September and Sir Alex is confident he’ll have a part to play in the play in the Reds’ quest for European glory.

“He’s such a versatile player who can perform in so many positions, so he could be a very important player for us at that time of the season. That was the reason [we included him ahead of others in the European squad].”

Tosic and De Laet’s exclusions don't mean they won’t be given the chance to shine on other stages; the manager was particularly positive when talking about De Laet and suggested the young Belgian could play in “a lot of league games” this term.

Tottenham v Man Utd preview

QUOTE
Tottenham and Manchester United will be hastily assessing the fitness of their international stars ahead of their meeting at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

The international break means that both clubs would only have welcomed back some of their squad as late as Friday after their long-haul exertions for their respective countries.

United winger Antonio Valencia helped Ecuador to a 3-1 win in Bolivia on Wednesday, while Park Ji-Sung has just returned from Seoul after playing in a friendly for South Korea against Australia last week.

Meanwhile, Spurs duo Wilson Palacios and Giovani Dos Santos faced each other when Honduras and Mexico came head-to-head in Mexico City in midweek, while full-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto was in Africa with Cameroon.

Both managers will be cursing their luck that such a big game has fallen at such an unfortunate time in the football calendar, but both squads have enough quality to plug the gaps if necessary.

Spurs have begun the season in spectacular fashion, winning all four of their opening four games and sitting pretty in second with just goal difference keeping them behind Chelsea.

Reknapp's men have already beaten United's title rivals Liverpool at home on the opening day of the season and confidence is high in the Tottenham camp having scored 11 Premier League goals so far this term.
Notable absence

One negative for Spurs will be the notable absence of Luka Modric after he suffered a broken leg against Birmingham last time out.

The little Croatian is not expected back until the end of October, so pressure will be on Aaron Lennon to continue his flying start to the season down the right flank.

The 22-year-old is one of the only widemen to consistently trouble Red Devils left-back Patrice Evra and Redknapp will be asking the England international to run at the defender for the whole 90 minutes.

Redknapp could also be boosted by the return of defenders Sebastian Bassong (knee) and Ledley King (groin), while Michael Dawson (Achilles), Gareth Bale (knee) and midfielder Jermaine Jenas (calf) could also return from their respective lay-offs.

However, Jonathan Woodgate (groin) is expected to need another week of rest before he can be considered for first-team action.

Goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes (thigh) is close to a full recovery as Redknapp begins to get the bulk of his squad back fit.

Niko Kranjcar is in line to make his Spurs debut and come in for the injured Modric after signing from Portsmouth last week.

Rio return

The champions could welcome Rio Ferdinand (thigh) back into the side after the defender came back sooner than expected.

However, John O'Shea is very doubtful after he returned from international duty with Republic of Ireland with a calf complaint.

Brazilian youngster Rafael is close to a comeback from shoulder surgery but he is unlikely to be risked, so either Wes Brown, who shrugged off a knock in England training this week, or Gary Neville should start at full-back.

Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar (thumb), Gabriel Obertan (back) and Owen Hargreaves (knee) are all long-term casualties and are not expected back until October at the earliest.

Probable starting XIs

Tottenham: Cudicini, Corluka, King, Bassong, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Palacios, Huddlestone, Kranjcar, Keane, Defoe.

Man Utd: Foster, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Park, Fletcher, Carrick, Nani, Berbatov, Rooney

One to watch: Aaron Lennon

My wild guess [after the international games]:

Foster
Gary - Vida - Rio/Evans - Evra
Nani - Fletcher - Scholes - Park
Rooney
Berbatov

QUOTE
Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville are both in contention for Manchester United’s trip to Tottenham.

Ferdinand has yet to play a competitive match for United this season after a thigh injury but is back in training, while Neville proved his fitness in a reserve match last week.

Sir Alex Ferguson may start Antonio Valencia on the bench as the Ecuador winger has had a long journey back from international duty in Bolivia, where he scored in a 3-1 win to give his country a good chance of qualifying for the World Cup.

"Valencia was playing in Bolivia so he'll probably arrive back in November!" said Ferguson. "Just think of a player playing a game in Bolivia on a Thursday morning and expected to be playing at Tottenham on a Saturday, but that's what happens now."

John O’Shea is certain to be missing after suffering a calf injury on duty with the Republic of Ireland, while keeper Edwin van der Sar’s broken thumb will keep him out for another month.

Doesn't sounds like Valencia will get a start.

This is the first time in so many encounters that Evra managed to keep the on fire Lennon quiet. Has he finally found the answer to his lennon-phobia after such a long time? laugh.gif

One thing though, Crouch make both Rio & Vida looks ordinary yesterday. He seriously gave our defense a tough time there sweat.gif

Poor old Scholes, still could't get his tackle right which is something we the fans have to bear with it since its not his strongest attributes laugh.gif

Overall, a very good performance from the team who did not panic after the early blow of Spurs scoring early.

Boss enjoys fantastic football

QUOTE
Sir Alex Ferguson saluted his team's composure and killer instinct after United came from behind once again to beat Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

Jermain Defoe's stunning goal for Spurs after just 50 seconds wasn't the only blow to the champions - later, the Reds lost the services of Paul Scholes when he was harshly shown a second yellow card. But despite playing for more than half an hour with ten men, United wrapped up the win when Wayne Rooney scored on the counter-attack to make it 3-1.

"Wayne's goal came at a great time, it killed the game for us," reflected Sir Alex.

"We were under the cosh with the ten men and had to defend really well. We had some good counter-attacking play and the third goal finished the game."

Entering the game with maximum points, Tottenham quickly set United a test by taking that lightning lead through Defoe.

"I think it was always going to be a hard game," said Sir Alex. "Spurs are in great form at the moment and they got off to a fantastic start by scoring in the first minute.

"It was a marvellous finish from Defoe but it was early in the game and there were still ninety minutes to play. We had to gather our game and show our composure and I thought our football was fantastic."

After Ryan Giggs equalised from a free-kick, United went 2-1 up through a rare source as Anderson scored his first competitive goal for the Reds in 78 appearances.

"I hope that drives him on to get more because he's capable of that," said the manager.

"He hasn't played a lot of games but he's part of a squad, we have so many midfield players and we have to rotate it at various times in the season and Anderson will play his part. He had a marvellous performance for us today."

The only blemish on a brilliant evening for United was the red card for Scholes.

"It was a terrible sending off," complained by Sir Alex.

"I think the referee (Andre Marriner) got it wrong. Scholes clearly lifted his leg above the player. I think the Tottenham player's done him, I think he (Tom Huddlestone) should have been punished.

"I've looked at it twice on the video and I can't see a sending-off in that. I think he was sent off because his name's Paul Scholes."

Giggs eyes dead ball duties

QUOTE
Having waited patiently in line behind Cristiano Ronaldo for much of the last six years, Ryan Giggs is more than happy to re-assume free kick duties.

The veteran star curled home a fine 25-yard effort at White Hart Lane, levelling matters after Jermain Defoe's early opener and laying the foundations for an impressive United victory, secured by further goals from Anderson and Wayne Rooney.

"I've been a bit rusty at free kicks," the 35-year-old told ESPN. "We've got plenty of players who can take them. "Nani's already scored one this season, Wayne and myself (can both take them). We've got plenty of options, but we didn't have a look-in for four or five years, obviously with Cristiano! I was just glad to see it go in."

Giggs' goal set the Reds up for an important win, but the points were only made safe by Rooney's fine late solo strike. With United a man light after the dismissal of Paul Scholes, Giggs was thankful that the firebrand forward was able to put the game to bed.

"With 10 men obviously it's always tough," he said. "They had a lot of the ball and we had to defend really well, they've got a lot of attacking options so we had to try to get men behind the ball and try to get a breakaway goal - and that's what we got.

"It was a great goal. When you're down to 10 men you're just hanging on really and hoping you get something, a bit of magic, and Wayne's produced that."

Ando off the mark

QUOTE
Having seen Anderson finally break his goalscoring duck after 78 competitive matches, the Brazilian's team-mates were naturally delighted for him.

The 21-year-old lashed home a fine goal at Tottenham to put the Reds on the verge of an impressive victory, and Rio Ferdinand claims the signs were there in recent weeks that Ando's drought was set to end.

"I think the lads have seen it coming," Rio told MUTV. "The international break gave him plenty of time to train and we've seen glimpses of what he can do. He scored a good goal for the Reserves and I think he's got the knack now of scoring.

"Hopefully he can go on a good run now and score more because if he does that he'll be a top-class player."

The Brazilian took plenty of ribbing from his colleagues during his drought, and it seems that ending it will not bring an end to the friendly banter.

"He's had a bit of stick about his celebration," added Ryan Giggs. "But we're all pleased. His performances have been really good since he's come to the club. He's a top player. He knows he needs to add goals to his game and hopefully he'll score a lot more."

Giggs to keep rewriting record books

QUOTE
September 13, 2009

RYAN Giggs made history with his strike against Tottenham and the veteran has another landmark in his sights as Manchester United continue to prove there is life without Cristiano Ronaldo.

Giggs, a couple of months shy of his 36th birthday, is now the only player to score in every Premier League season after curling his free-kick into the top corner at White Hart Lane to spark United's comeback.

It also took Giggs' goal tally to 149 for United, meaning he is one away from Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is eighth in the club's list of all-time scorers.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson could rest Giggs for this week's Champions League trip to Turkey to face Besiktas, so he may have the chance notch his 150 next week against Manchester City - the club he could have joined as a youngster.

Giggs said: "I'm proud that I have scored in every Premier League season but hopefully that is not it. I don't want it to be my goal for the season. Hopefully I will score more.

"I don't score as many as I used to but I try and score some important ones. The goal against Tottenham was probably one of them."

With Spurs hoping to break into the top four, United's performance was a huge message to the rest of the league, especially as Paul Scholes was dismissed after an hour.

"It's well documented that we've lost Cristiano and Carlos (Tevez) but we have great players here and it gives you confidence when you come to a place like Spurs and get a result," Giggs added.

His fellow midfielder, Anderson, scored his first goal for the club and his 'machine gun' celebration suggested he was unprepared for breaking his duck.

"Ando has had a bit of stick because of not scoring and his celebration!" Giggs said.

Rio Ferdinand, who made his first competitive appearance of the season, added: "The lads have been seeing it from Ando. During the international break he as had time to train and he has been showing glimpses of what he can really do.

"He scored a good goal in the reserves so I think he has got the knack back now with his scoring. Hopefully he can go on a good run now and score some goals because if he does that he can be a top-class player."

Ferguson believes the Brazil midfielder needs to add goals to his game.

"He's capable of that," said the United boss. "He's just got to be given the encouragement and confidence to shoot. He's got a great strike of the ball."

Ferguson was unhappy with referee Andre Marriner over Scholes' dismissal, although the red card did not have a bearing on the result in the end.

"The referee had some funny moments," said Ferdinand.

Ferdinand added: "Personally, it was good to be back from injury. When you are out injured it is never good to sit and watch or be at home and around the house when the lads are playing."

Phelan - Right to rush Rio

QUOTE
Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan believes the decision to rush Rio Ferdinand back to fitness was justified against Tottenham.

The 30-year-old made his first appearance of the season after struggling with a calf injury and much to the delight of United completed the whole 90 minutes.

The champions produced their best performance of the season to end Spurs' 100 per cent start to the campaign by running out 3-1 winners at White Hart Lane.

The England international's inclusion came as somewhat of a surprise with many suggesting he would not be fully fit until the end of the month.

However Phelan reveals that the coaching staff have pushed the defender in training and now the former Leeds man looks likely to start in United's UEFA Champions League opener in Turkey against Besiktas on Tuesday.

"Rio worked hard during the last couple of weeks," Phelan said.

"He got the treatment he needed and was able to get out onto the training ground. We were pushing him a bit to play but he will be better for it."

Determined

With Wes Brown also back from injury manager Sir Alex Ferguson may opt for Jonny Evans to finally go under the knife to cure a persistent ankle problem after putting the operation off for the past 12 months.

The Northern Ireland international filled in for Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic with refreshing ease last term but he insists he still has a long way to go before he can consider himself a regular member of the first-team squad.

"You don't sit down after one game and think 'Oh I'm a Manchester United player now'," he told Inside United.

"There are plenty of players who played even 100 games for this club and aren't remembered.

"You want to make your mark on the history of the club. It is only then you can walk away and say 'I made it at United'."

Home-grown rule introduced

QUOTE
The Premier League have introduced a home-grown player rule which will come into effect from next season, alongside a limit on squad sizes.

From the 2010/11 campaign, the 20 Premier League clubs have voted to introduce measures which will see all teams required to have eight home-grown players out of a squad of 25.

Chief executive Richard Scudamore confirmed the changes, with clubs only able to make alterations to their squads during the two transfer windows.

"As of next season clubs will be required to have a squad named of up to 25 players, of which no more than 17 can be over the age of 21 and not home grown," Scudamore said.

"The definition of home grown is trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody in the English and Welsh professional system.

"Clubs will have to declare their 25 at the end of August when the window shuts and then again at the end of January."

Players who are aged under 21 are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad.

Incentive

Scudamore does not believe the move will encourage clubs to hoard young foreign players and claims the England team will ultimately reap the reward.

"It's not in the club's interests to stockpile players. It will make buying home-grown talent more attractive," he said.

"We're not going down the route of a nationality test but what this will mean is that you just can't buy a team from abroad.

"We think it will give clubs an extra incentive to invest in youth. We think that one of the benefits will be that it will help the England team."

All 20 Premier League members also agreed to adhere to a set of financial reporting rules designed to protect the viability and sustainability of the clubs.

Finances

"They will all have to annually submit accounts and future financial information," said Scudamore.

"At all times the board of the Premier League will be applying a test which basically says this: can the club fulfil its fixtures, pay off its creditors when they are due and also to meet obligations to the Premier League's contracts and partners?

"If the board believe a club is at risk of not meeting those obligations, it has to then step in and agree a budget for the running of that club. Any transfers can be embargoed.

"It's absolutely crucial that these clubs are run as ongoing viable concerns. These financial rules apply immediately.

"This is tied in, and we passed the rule during the summer, to a 'fit and proper person test'. At our club meeting last week, the clubs absolutely endorsed our position of not linking expenditure to income."

1. "As of next season clubs will be required to have a squad named of up to 25 players, of which no more than 17 can be over the age of 21 and not home grown," Scudamore said.

Yeah. Rest Rooney for the derby.
Our wingers should be back since they didn't feature at all almost against Spurs.

Nani/Valencia and Park on the wings, two CMs.. play Carrick so he can get into the swing of things again.

Judging on what Fergie said about blending both Berba & Roo plus the part where it say Owen's best hope is on the bench, I doubt he will start.

Violent conduct & improper conduct charges for Adebayor. Clattenburg also confirmed he would had sent him off if he see it so sounds like a dead cert 3 match ban for the violent conduct alone.

Reds pass Istanbul test

QUOTE
Experience and pace were the keys to United beating Besiktas, with Paul Scholes epitomising the first attribute and Antonio Valencia the other.

That was broadly Sir Alex Ferguson's take after the Reds passed "a test of concentration, a test of nerve" in a "fantastic atmosphere" at Istanbuk's Inonu Stadium. The boss praised one of his longest-serving players Scholes for his impeccable positional sense and his recent recruit Valencia for terrorising the Turkish side with his speed on the right flank.

"I thought Antonio had the winning of the game for us," said Sir Alex.

"He got to the byline a few times and although his final ball could have been a bit better, Besiktas were under threat from him."

After a largely uneventful first half, Valencia and co were quick out of the traps after the break and were unlucky not to score straight away when Nani's cross from the other flank was cleared off the line and Michael Carrick just failed to follow up.

"I think we had a bit more urgency in the second half. We started it very well, almost scoring from the first attack and I think that gave us a bit of an impetus," said the boss.

That said, United had to wait patiently for the breakthrough - it came 13 minutes from the end of what would have otherwise been an acceptable draw. True to his form as a loyal trooper, Scholes heeded his boss' call at the break to push up and lie in wait for the kill.

"At half-time we said that if we get into a scoring position, then we should have people up in support. Paul has been fantastic at that over the years. It was a very important goal," praised Sir Alex.

Sir Alex was clearly happy with the result, and described himself as "quite comfortable with the performance, I thought the players did well most of the time.

"We had good possession and were the better team, and we played with good concentration because the atmosphere’s something you have to deal with.

"I thought it was a fantastic atmosphere and it’s a test of the players’ concentration, test of their nerve and I think they’ve done okay."

However, there were still a couple of concerns for Sir Alex as he prepared to fly home with his squad after five nights away.

On Wayne Rooney's interaction with some home fans after being substituted, the boss said: "I didn’t see it and Wayne didn’t mention anything to me. But it’s a volatile crowd here in Turkey, it’s always been that way.

"If you go back to 1993 when we played Galatasaray it was a bit of a war then. The fans were incredible then, they are very emotional and they can react."

As for the worrying absence of Rio Ferdinand from United's eighteen in Istanbul, the boss explained: "We’ll have to wait and see (for the Manchester City match). He felt his groin in training (after playing at Spurs), and we felt it wasn’t worth the risk. He couldn’t make the bench. We just have to give him every chance for Sunday."

QUOTE
Meanwhile, Ferguson insists that he always planned on substituting Wayne Rooney to save the England striker from fatigue.

Rooney reacted angrily when he was replaced by Michael Owen on 64 minutes, but his manager is adamant the tactical reshuffle was nothing to do with his performance

"It was always part of our thoughts to bring Wayne off," said Ferguson.

"He had been playing as the lone striker for an hour, which is why he was always going to come off.

"He is never pleased to come off. He has so much energy he wants to play all the time."

QUOTE(beck_ken @ Sep 16 2009, 01:09 PM)
same. Gary Neville don't have the speed to mark Citeh's pacey winger on the left (who is playing on left? Robinho?)

O' Shea don't have the speed but he has the body where he can use it.

Robinho is out as well. So either Martin Petrov or someone else.
