QUOTE(chtan @ Mar 4 2010, 04:06 PM)
Actually, the screen size is one of my major concern. X10 4" screen is able to provide better browsing experience than N900(i read a lot, ebook especially), but N900's browser is better than X10 cause X10 OS is only Android 1.6 (hm...if only it is 2.0/2.1 then the choice would be much more easier).

I'm using Samsung I8000 now so reading and browsing on 3.5" screen is best describe as...below my expectation though it serves its purpose.

Phone function to me is only non-critical.
*
Mmm.... yup, from your perspective, it's a tough decision. You don't mind the phone design too? Although X10 have big screen but it lacks qwerty keyboard with is very useful data input and web browsing;

Is it not possible to update the OS to Android 2.0/2.1? Suppose they should allow upgrade, else what's the point of launching the device when the OS gets outdated and similarly, end up worst than N900/Maemo, because Sony is not going support Android as it's OS does not belong to them afterall.

QUOTE(jloi @ Mar 4 2010, 04:51 PM)
last nite i use skype (1st time) in my n900 wif friends while i multitasking..and i guess some bug appear while i keep multitask until my landscape mode phone now become potrait mode...
*
Yup, that is a known bug, and in YouTube, some of them know how the steps to make the bug appear, lol.

But the multi-tasking is really great experience, you get so busy switching around apps/browsers/conversations; but one thing though, this device would be great to have more ram and processing power! Plus, when multi-tasking and listening to music, it affects the music at times.

anyone know how to watch rmv files with nokia n900

Try installing "Extra Decoders Support" from "devel" repositories.

Check below kiawin's blog how to add more options to your application catalog.
http://kiawin.com/blog/2010/02/nokia-n900-3-more-apps.html

NOTE: Take note that those catalogs are apps which are under testing or development stage and it might not be stable or have problems.

Great news guys!

The Nokia N900 will be the first device to get a taste of MeeGo when the genuine merger of Moblin and Maemo takes place later this month.
Quim Gil at Nokia tweets that the Nokia member of the currently two-person Technical Steering Group (TSG) of MeeGo, Valtteri Halla, reveals the Nokia N900 as the first device to get a taste of MeeGo:

Nokia and Intel have set the target to open the MeeGo repository by the end of this month. I guess this is something that finally will signify the real "Day One" of MeeGo project, a genuine merger of moblin and maemo. What is scheduled to be available then is the first and very raw baseline to a source and binary repository to build MeeGo trunk on Intel ATOM boards and Nokia N900.

Nokia has promised to release a brand new MeeGo phone that builds on the Nokia N900 down the road, and LG will also join the party with the release of the LG GW990. The latter will sport a 4.8-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1024 by 480 pixels. That said, MeeGo will be a platform that spreads across a range of product types in the upcoming LTE era, including Media Phones, Pocketables / Handhelds, Netbooks, Connected TVs and In-car entertainment systems. Check out more about MeeGo here.

What about for those that already bought the N900 now? How can they get to taste on the MeeGo, thru firmware update?

Working on Windows XP. If using Windows 7 need to install XP Mode not XP compitable. Restart pc after install Ovi map loader.

On N900
1. Run terminal and type:
cp /home/user/MyDocs/.qf /home/user/MyDocs/qf

2. Connect to PC in PC Suite Mode

3. Open Map Loader and it works!
