hii everyone my benq joybook s41 was died last week and after i did my research in last week i knew it it GPU's problem due to defective chipset of nvida geforce 8m series...so i wonder so any benq joybook do really received a free repair for this prob, in m'sia i think..

as i know,changing the mobo will cost me 1.5k.this is insane!!

so any1 did receive free repair from benq malaysia,do let me know and tell me how to let them do a free repair for me.

one more,can the benq joybook s41 just change the gc chipset instead of replace the mobo?

or can i ask them to change the gc to nvidia 9m series since the 8m is faulty,then if they change the same defective chipset for me,in case i pay for the service i will also face the same problem again in the future just like a time bomb!!

I really hv no money..considering should i sell it after do the repair...

anyway, basically the thing is, i ve extended warranty (standard 1yr int'l, + 2yrs extended), but after the satandard one has expire, and i send the laptop to service, the BenQ staff never ask me or check anything regarding warranty... they juz take in the laptop, no qn asked...

2) impossible, since the graphic card is soldered onto the mobo... u either dun change or change both...

3) changing to GeForce 9M, or rather, S42 mobo and graphic card, is for very jialat case only... so far only heard 1 case of such... spoilt 4 times in less than a year...

maybe you can try talk to the SC personnel...there are such cases that already like yours one..maybe they can change the GC for free lor...because the problem is not the laptop but the GC itself...

im using my S41 since march 2008 until now.
it working fine untill now....but feel like time bomb la.
everyday afraid gc will faulty....
now, planning to sell it before anything happen to me....heheh.

but, let say it happen, and my 1 years warranty is finished already.
can i claim for free???? and where is BenQ service centre???

there's quite a number of cases where the warranty is over and BenQ replace for free....

juz tell them that it's the GPU gone case already, most of the times they wouldn't ask anymore qns...

No, they won't charge you any single cents even though your warranty expired, as long as it's really your GPU problem then they would change you for FREE, else it gonna charge you like normal, I mean other parts defect not GPU.

Me too S41 user since aug 2008 and now I've got the same problem with black screen with faint light and no more display and also its 1 year gurantee was over...

Just contact the service center (ANDA Services) and tell them its GPU problem.

got rid of my S41 long time ago, if it wasn't the nvidia shit, I think i'm still being happy, coz other than the stupid GPU prob, S41 don't have any other prob(really! serius!), really great laptop and great built too...

by now most S41 should be out of warranty already...

for all sad s41 users, i think they change your mobo for free for the 1st time, but for the 2nd time, they charge you 1.5k for it. and regarding the changing the mobo from s41 mobo to s42 mobo, i can tell u that this is a very low chance of getting it. so far i only heard 1 person got sucessfully change his s41 mobo to s42 mobo.. which is a damn good offer by the manager..

the problem is gpu heats UP to easily up to 100degree!
Geforce 9300mgs.. core temp is at 40 average but gpu is more than double when playing game!!

can i oso change the gpu or mobo for free? age: 1 year, no more warranty

GF9300 is not known to have defective issues like 8000 series...

only 8400 and 8600 can get free replacement for 1 time.. after that, u're on your own..

well its depend. depend on your lappy's ventilation and where does the air blown from the cooler.

but most of chepo cooler is total waste if you ask me. just wasting USB port only.

My s41 broke down few months ago coz of the gpu problem, warranty ended july 2008

9300mgs is low end gpu.. try not to "stress test" like how i "stress test" my 8600mgs.. end up back to factory.. just make sure u clean up the fan and monitor the temp will do..
yep, can get free replacement if really gpu faulty.. after replacing, they give u 3 months warranty..

just sent mine to service center few days ago..

Few months back i went to the benq service center at merchant square near the nkve there to check my laptop, they wanna charge me like rm100 labour charge for checking the laptop so i didn't let them check. Went back to penang and got it check it for free but they didn't have the part to fix it.

Can i know which service center you send your s41 to? Your s41 warranty expired already?

yep, expired for about 1 year +..

if ur location is at klang valley, then go to the glenmarrie there.. if ur s41 is really gpu problem, they replace a new 1 for u without any charges.. but if is not ur gpu problem, then 100 bucks labour fee + parts price..

if u confirm that ur s41 is gpu problem, then go for it.. they dont charge a single cent.. even for labour fee

nah, i suspect is my gpu prob since 8600m gs is known as the defective one.. summore the symptoms shows my gpu is ady dead.. so i guess most probably is my gpu prob..

a dead gpu = install driver, u get bsod

only can run with vga..

and based on ur pic, did u install any driver for the gpu and successfully boot into windows?

after the screen above, can't even see the bios page... the screen just turn dark with green horizontal lines... can't see a word on the screen, not sure whether it boot on windows cause i didn't heard any welcoming music... but it does have gpu drivers installed last time before it died...

they said if the problem is gpu faulty, then they fix it for free.. but if not gpu problem, then theres a labour charge + parts charge.. checking fee would be 50 bucks..

Holy! was just trying to boot my s41 and it managed to boot into windows safe mode! dunno whether should i be happy or not...

i've disabled the display driver, so if the gpu is faulty will get BSOD if enable the driver again?

update:
today morning i on my s41 and out come the vertical lines, this time got blue lines, i guess it's from the windows login page cause i heard the welcoming music, restart again then it never show up already

so i enabled the gpu drivers, been running 3dmark06 for the whole day, max out the settings and so far no problem, LOL!!! however i noticed my screen has been slightly brownish... hmm...
