Want to find out how much electricity your appliance consume when it is at standby or at full load ?

Ever wonder how much 30 mins of TV, vacuuming, a kettle of boiling water cost ?

How about that super duper high powered PC that you just modded ?

Want to just save electricity ? Start by finding out where to save !!

Want to know the efficiency (Power Factor) of your applicance ?

Want to increase sales of your modern electrical goods by showing how energy efficient it is and perform comparison ?

If any of your answer to the above question is yes, this device is for you !

user posted image

For those asking for a demo, the device functions very much like the popular "Kill A Watt" and more .. My model includes automatic electricity cost calculations as well after you key in the unit price per KWh.

Personal Power Meter

* Allows you to key in unit cost of electricity and your actual cost for running the device
* Big/Easy to read LCD screen

Power Supply 230-240V AC 50Hz
Maximum Load 13A, 3120W (Features onboard overload warning)

edit :

may i know the accuracy of the unit? kill a watt itself doesnt have very good accuracy, and is bad with inductive loads. may i know how does this differ with the kill a watt model?

Hi Daijoubu,

I wish I have an answer for you on that but I don't have any other scientific means of comparison.

I did test it with my popcorn hour media tank power consumption and it shows about the same as what was reported in the reviews. So from that perspective, seems accurate to me.

Cheers

Received the products in good condition.
Tried it out, seems ok. Not sure about the accuracy.
Maybe its just me, I find it difficult to set the pricing.

bro.. got a question here.. my room only got 1 wall socket.. i extend the wall socket to 10 socket and all is using concurrently 24/7.

to prevent serious damage to wall cable. i put on UPS on to the wall socket b4 all device.

so, if my wall socket -> kill-a-watt -> UPS -> 10 socket.

will this configuration blow the kill-a-watt?

Hi there and thank you for the question. Interesting one smile.gif

Based on the specification of the product, it can handle the following load.

Maximum Load 13A, 3120W

I would suggest that you might want to measure them separately first just in case the total wattage exceeds product specification and in which case may 'blow' the power meter and void the warranty.

Just my 2 cents, having 10 devices connected to 1 outlet in itself is actually might be risky. Adding a UPS just helps to provide backup power and maybe smooth out voltage spikes but don't think it will provide any protection against overload. UPS itself will consume some power even when fully charged.

Let me know if you are interested in the product. 2 units left at the moment.

Bought 2 units of the power meter. No issues or problems with the units.

The only setback is that some of the text were too small to read. Other than that everything is good.

The price is good. Free bump!

Yea .. plasma TV known to consume more electricity ... guess many didn't know how much smile.gif LCD easily use less than half of that if not more ... However, plasma pict quality still better although LCD is catching up fast !

-Item received and tested, everything is working well.
Good packaging and swift delivery, recommended seller. smile.gif

-BTW, I found that a desktop HDD alone consumes about 10W during operation (Barracuda 7200.10 250GB SATA). I use an AC to DC adapter with Molex connector (which usually came with IDE/SATA to USB adapter). biggrin.gif

Really depends on your PC setup. My AMDx2 939 with 2 HDD overclocked to 2500Mhz uses around 75-80W smile.gif When running at 100% CPU, 95W!

Can you use a simple light bulb as a test? Like a desk lamp with a simple construction? So plug in a 25W bulb and it should read close to 25W on the meter?

I had one of these before but it was a foreign socket, needed to use an adapter and it was so bulky and troublesome I gave it away :\

Measured idle wattage of my plasma tv and it is accurate to the manual.

The power meter is UK version so similar to our 3 pin AC plug.

Yes battery is only to maintain memory readings/costs/clock and unit prices. Unit will still operate even without battery but will not retain any memory of max/cost/clock readings once power is turned off.

The Pos Laju Service is good.

You told me you posted it on 13 Jan around 9am.

The Pos Laju came on 14 Jan around 9am.

The device helps me to discover that the voltage regulator fluctuates with TNB voltage in the 230 (+/- 5%)

That is device gives the same reading with or without the voltage regulator.

I have always presumed the voltage regulator maintains a constant voltage output.

Lastly, I must say I like the device. Thanks.

Thanks ! Glad you found the device useful. Btw, I found out why Pos Laju tracking didn't show any status in their tracking page until evening as they told me that the system will only show when there is movement/change in status and that is why it was only updated in the evenings when the item was shipped out of the post office to their hub. I have proposed them to at least put a note there regarding this behaviour. Lets see if they do something about it smile.gif

Just done some testing measuring power consumption of my pc
(desktop PC + monitor + wifi router)

At idle, consuming roughly 77 watts

At max load playing 1080p mkv files, 119 watts

Monitor alone consuming 20 watts, while the wifi router was consuming about 10 watts.

Still alot more to test... tongue.gif

Thanks csng. Glad you are finding it useful.

Yes a PC can be quite power hungry/inefficient when playing hi-def media. That is why HD media players may be a better solution if you watch a lot of movies smile.gif

My popcorn hour uses about 20Watts when playing 1080p and I leave it on 24x7 for torrents as well.

Happy testing smile.gif

Cheers

Thats quite a lot. What specification are your PC?

FYI, my pc was an AMD Dual Core 4350e(2.1Mhz) with a AMD 780G Chipset motherboard with integrated graphics.

My panasonic Plasma 42 inch TV was consuming from 90++watts to 190++ watts depending on what scene it was showing. In bright scenes it uses more while in dark scene it uses less.

Table Fan was using 50 watts at maximum speed.

Most power hungry was definitely the air conditioner, a 1 HP unit, using 700++ to 800++ watts. sweat.gif

not too surprising then .. mine's a core i7 920 with a radeon 4850
my fan also uses about that much but not able to confirm aircon as its linked straight into the power grid.

Got the power meter. Stuff is built with quality and it measures well. One thing that they can improve is prolly implement backlighting as it's hard to see when it's low light. Good stuffs. money well spent.

If any of your answer to the above question is yes, this device is for you !

user posted image

For those asking for a demo, the device functions very much like the popular "Kill A Watt" and more .. My model includes automatic electricity cost calculations as well after you key in the unit price per KWh.

Personal Power Meter

Features

* Measures voltage (V), amps (A), watts (W), volt-amps(VA), hertz (Hz) and power factor (PF)
* Allows you to key in unit cost of electricity and your actual cost for running the device
* Big/Easy to read LCD screen

Power Supply  230-240V AC 50Hz
Maximum Load  13A, 3120W

I'm into biogas plant and other renewable energy business in India.
I'd like to buy the power monitor for resale in India.
Please let me know if the monitor can be used in India.
Can the cumulative consumption after each reset, be displayed in Indian Currency?

Hi,
I just saw your adv on lelong, but somehow found it here. Seem like your price at lelong a bit cheaper.

I have a few question:
1) from your spec, you said that:Power Accuracy - +/- 5% or +/- 10W. Is that mean it will measure in 10W step?
2) can it measure low wattage power like 1~5W?
3) can it measure total power consumption in indefinite time, like i leave it for 6 months?

I might consider it next week if stock available.

Hi, stock is available. Lelong item you found is probably old list.

I have a few question:
1) from your spec, you said that:Power Accuracy - +/- 5% or +/- 10W. Is that mean it will measure in 10W step?
Measurement up to 1W steps. Power accuracy is depending on the appliance. That is the tolerance level as per my post.

2) can it measure low wattage power like 1~5W?
Yes.

3) can it measure total power consumption in indefinite time, like i leave it for 6 months?
Yes. It can measure accumulated power consumption.

Hi, do you still have stock for the watt meter?

Added on April 4, 2011, 8:11 pmgot the watt meter already.. I'm surprised. It works really well and accurate. Great product. Now I can use it to measure my pc power consumption, and downclock to my preferred power consumption.

hye,

i have couple of question regarding this item smile.gif

1. is this item usable in malaysia? because the video shows US socket system.

2. I want to install aircond in my room. However, the socket system is not like our usual square 3 pin socket. Aircond wall socket is 3 pin but rounded holes. Am I able to use this item?

3. If all the above answer allows me to use it, is the item still in stock? How fast would the package to arrive in penang?

Thank You. Looking forward for your reply smile.gif.

Yes you can. Apologies the youtube video is showing a similar function product. My product is shown in the other image with UK/MY socket.

My item comes with UK/MY socket. However you may have to convert to standard pin plug before using with the power meter. Due to the power rating specification, should use only with 1 HP units or max power 3120Watt.

Below are my review of the SELLER that I have purchased.

The seller are OK, I got my product less then a week after I made cash transfer into his account. The seller did PM me a few times to assure that the parcel/product safely reach me. I would say he is a responsible seller and I would recommand him as a good seller.

OK, Now about the PRODUCT review.

This is my first WATT meter. The product does as what it advertise, meaning, it show Power Usage, Voltage, Power Factors etc. However... I do face a number of limitation when comes to actual practical use.

To begin with, I would say the display is PITA (Pain In the AS*) to read, tooooooo small (The digit are no bigger than the size of typical scientific calculator) and no backlight. If you have no clear space to use it, it is barely reader-able/useable. Fortunately for me, I only want to use this device to measure my PC total power usage for an instant. So that is not an issues to me.

Setting are of typical of china make product, like CSL phone, you need to go through a few steps (key presses) in order to make a simple settings, nevertheless you still able to set it as you needed.

On contrary to what it is written on the User Manual or as advertised, the settings are NOT RETAINABLE, every time you power off or remove it from wall power point, all the settings are gone. You need to re-set/re-program everything, like setting TIME, DAY, Unit COST kWH etc. For me, it is not an issues because, as said earlier, I only use to measure the watt usage. Also it is not usable at all without actually plugging it into wall power point.

Overall I would say that this product does work and do as it advertised, But there are few things can be made better for practical use, like Bigger Display, Back Light and Retainable Settings etc. If I timed Back To Future, will I buy this product? probably not... may be another brand of similar product.

P/S1: I'm not very sure about this but I suspect that it is possible the setting are NOT RETAINABLE due to a probable of flat/faulty button cell that comes with the product. I have not check/replace the button cell because it is not in my priority list at the moment. However, as what I have received the product, the settings cannot be saved. Someone who has purchase the product care to verify this.

P/S2: Above are just my personal opinion of the seller and the product.

Thank you,
Iggy

Dear Iggyboy,

The power meter will retain settings / usage details as the batteries will allow it to do so and allow you to view the data without pluggin into the power socket. The reason why you encounter this issue about not able to keep settings when not plugged in is likely due to depleted batteries. Just PM me and would be happy to send you some replacement batteries smile.gif. If it still doesn't work, send it back to me and I will give you a replacement.

Cheers,

fy

i've bought the unit from you during the weekend. I'm not so much into all this power equation and etc... Just wondering if you could enlighten me on things i'm not sure.

i've measure a few stuff in my house as below :-

Air Cond - reading about 980 WATT during operation, 5.6Kwh , total on time 6 .29, and i've set price 1 at RM0.22 so it shows 1.24 for total price.

Q1. Does it means 980 WATT = 0.980 kW/h?
Q2. Does 5.6Kwh = 5.6kW/h?

My Dell laptop adapter stated to be 90W-AC Adapter, Input AC 100-240V~1.5A, Output DC 19.5V 4.62A

The meter reading VOLtac 244, 0.14 AMP, 33 WATT(average)

Q3. I don't quite understand the meter reading vs the adapter stated value. I wonder if the meter is reading accurately?

*
Q1. Correct if you see this during operation. Per hour.

Q2. No. It is 5.6kWh. This is cumulative consumption since you started measuring. Typically avg WATT x Duration (hr) will give you this.

Q3. Laptop adaptor typically shows max output capability. 90W (19.5x4.62) is the maximum output the adaptor supports. Based on formula Power (W) = Volt (V) x Current (A).

When you plugin your laptop and measure, it shows 33Watt is normal usage. My laptop also shows 30+watt average. If You play some games on it or do some number crunching and it will go up. if you show a blank white screen at max brightness and WATT will go up. When you turn off screen or go on suspend, it will drop.

Hope this explains. Do let me know if you have any further questions.

I bought the power meter from him and finally I can get to know my power consumption, energy efficient or not by monitoring the power factor and get to know how much the devices consume when on standby.

The accuracy seemed to work as promising, but so far I can only verify the only voltage reading using my own multimeter, but the wattage reading also quite promising.

The Kwh feature is a must need to let some other understand that I did not bump up RM50+ of their electricity bill when borrowing thier wall plug for 30mins of using the compressor pump rated at 1800W! mad.gif

received and testing it out for almost a week... so far everything is working very nice and the accuracy of it seem to be quite reliable whn i try to compare wif voltmeter. but the display really is a little bit hard to read at times.

Looks like seller not interested to sell. I have not received his PM.

Anybody want to sell their used one at a cheaper price, please PM me? I believe this kind of things only use once then seldom will use again.
