Want to find out how much electricity your appliance consume when it is at standby or at full load ?

Ever wonder how much 30 mins of TV, vacuuming, a kettle of boiling water cost ?

How about that super duper high powered PC that you just modded ?

Want to just save electricity ? Start by finding out where to save !!

Want to know the efficiency (Power Factor) of your applicance ?

Want to increase sales of your modern electrical goods by showing how energy efficient it is and perform comparison ?

If any of your answer to the above question is yes, this device is for you !

For those asking for a demo, the device functions very much like the popular "Kill A Watt" and more .. My model includes automatic electricity cost calculations as well after you key in the unit price per KWh.

Personal Power Meter

Features

* Measures voltage (V), amps (A), watts (W), volt-amps(VA), hertz (Hz) and power factor (PF)
* Allows you to key in unit cost of electricity and your actual cost for running the device
* Big/Easy to read LCD screen

Power Supply 230-240V AC 50Hz
Maximum Load 13A, 3120W (Features onboard overload warning)
Measure Voltage Range 200-276V AC

Measure Frequency Range 45-65Hz
Operating Temperature -10°C to 40°C

Voltage Accuracy - +/- 3%
Current Accuracy - +/- 3% or +/- 0.03A
Power Accuracy - +/- 5% or +/- 10W

Accuracy figures based on
1. Frequency of 45-65hz
2. Use of the unit under normal room temperature condition
3. Harmonic distortion of the voltage/current (15%)
4. Power factor > 0.8
5. Resistance load

Clock Accuracy +/- 1 min per month

Battery 3x1.5V LR44

reserve one for me smile.gif

edit :

may i know the accuracy of the unit? kill a watt itself doesnt have very good accuracy, and is bad with inductive loads. may i know how does this differ with the kill a watt model?
*
Hi Daijoubu,

I wish I have an answer for you on that but I don't have any other scientific means of comparison.

I did test it with my popcorn hour media tank power consumption and it shows about the same as what was reported in the reviews. So from that perspective, seems accurate to me.

Cheers

Received the products in good condition.
Tried it out, seems ok. Not sure about the accuracy.
Maybe its just me, I find it difficult to set the pricing.
*
Good to hear that. I do agree that the instructions on the manual could be clearer ..

bro.. got a question here.. my room only got 1 wall socket.. i extend the wall socket to 10 socket and all is using concurrently 24/7.

to prevent serious damage to wall cable. i put on UPS on to the wall socket b4 all device.

so, if my wall socket -> kill-a-watt -> UPS -> 10 socket.

will this configuration blow the kill-a-watt?
*
Hi there and thank you for the question. Interesting one smile.gif

Based on the specification of the product, it can handle the following load.

Maximum Load 13A, 3120W

I would suggest that you might want to measure them separately first just in case the total wattage exceeds product specification and in which case may 'blow' the power meter and void the warranty.

Just my 2 cents, having 10 devices connected to 1 outlet in itself is actually might be risky. Adding a UPS just helps to provide backup power and maybe smooth out voltage spikes but don't think it will provide any protection against overload. UPS itself will consume some power even when fully charged.

Let me know if you are interested in the product. 2 units left at the moment.

Yea .. plasma TV known to consume more electricity ... guess many didn't know how much smile.gif LCD easily use less than half of that if not more ... However, plasma pict quality still better although LCD is catching up fast !

May I know what is the average power consumption for surfing lowyat.net forum on a C2D PC ?
*
Really depends on your PC setup. My AMDx2 939 with 2 HDD overclocked to 2500Mhz uses around 75-80W smile.gif When running at 100% CPU, 95W!

Can you use a simple light bulb as a test? Like a desk lamp with a simple construction? So plug in a 25W bulb and it should read close to 25W on the meter?

I had one of these before but it was a foreign socket, needed to use an adapter and it was so bulky and troublesome I gave it away :\
*
Measured idle wattage of my plasma tv and it is accurate to the manual.

The power meter is UK version so similar to our 3 pin AC plug.

does tis one need battery? got demo at selayang?
*
Yes battery is only to maintain memory readings/costs/clock and unit prices. Unit will still operate even without battery but will not retain any memory of max/cost/clock readings once power is turned off.

The Pos Laju Service is good.

You told me you posted it on 13 Jan around 9am.

The Pos Laju came on 14 Jan around 9am.

The device helps me to discover that the voltage regulator fluctuates with TNB voltage in the 230 (+/- 5%)

That is device gives the same reading with or without the voltage regulator.

I have always presumed the voltage regulator maintains a constant voltage output.

Lastly, I must say I like the device.  Thanks.

*
Thanks ! Glad you found the device useful. Btw, I found out why Pos Laju tracking didn't show any status in their tracking page until evening as they told me that the system will only show when there is movement/change in status and that is why it was only updated in the evenings when the item was shipped out of the post office to their hub. I have proposed them to at least put a note there regarding this behaviour. Lets see if they do something about it smile.gif

Item received today in excellent condition. Trustworthy seller  rclxms.gif

Just done some testing measuring power consumption of my pc
(desktop PC + monitor + wifi router)

At idle, consuming roughly 77 watts

At max load playing 1080p mkv files, 119 watts

Monitor alone consuming 20 watts, while the wifi router was consuming about 10 watts.
Still alot more to test... tongue.gif
*
Thanks csng. Glad you are finding it useful.

Yes a PC can be quite power hungry/inefficient when playing hi-def media. That is why HD media players may be a better solution if you watch a lot of movies smile.gif

My popcorn hour uses about 20Watts when playing 1080p and I leave it on 24x7 for torrents as well.

Happy testing smile.gif

Cheers
