I want to start an online petition to petition Astro and ask them to revise their pricing structure for multiple decoders

Currently every decoder is a new account with separate channel subscriptions.

I want to suggest they revise to a single subscription per installation address, and every additional decoder be a rental unit, or if purchased by the subscriber, a rental of the SIM card for a fixed monthly amount.

This way I don't mind loading up on subscription of all channels anyone in my house could possibly want to watch (Kid, Edutainment, Sports, Movies, etc etc) and then put a few decoders around the house wherever there is a TV.

What do you guys think?

There are a few petitions on petitionsonline.com already running/ over - does anyone know if they had any effect?

Good luck to U.

"Kalau tak suka janganlah subscribe" would be my guess on what they will tell U. biggrin.gif

unlike telco in m'sia, there's currently only one satellite tv provider - mighty Astro. with telco, u dun like 012, jump la to 016 or 019..

there's no pressure for them to make any changes which will benefits the consumer & drill a hole in their own pocket...as long as they making money, consumer (majority) not complaining...they will keep it that way...even if they wanna increase (which they already did) the subs fee, no one can make any hoos & haas cos we hv no choice.

but to me...whatever industry it is, whether its being monopolized or not, there's simply no way for the provider to custom a plan for each particular individual...

i would love it if the Astro channels are not in packages..but rather, one can subscribe to any channels they like & not 'forced' to subscribed to a package with 5 channels where i only watch 2 of them...

but that being said, good luck to you...

Why not petition the government for another provider of cable/satellite TV?

Can't you subscribe to individual channels? you would think that a computer can easily track individual channels people subscribe to. Maybe they do their billing manually

As long as you and everyone else signs the petition... smile.gif

that would affect a lot of people, major investment, licensing, the government etc etc... could be decades before we see a change. What I'm asking for can be done at Astro board level, does not involve capital expenditure and could get them more subscribers.

Perhaps I should run a survey first, and see if how many decoders people would take if the pricing structure was changed

right now, u select packages...not channels..for example, I love Discovery & Nat-Geo channels..but i cant subs to only the two..i must or forced to subs to a package which include Animal Planet, learning channel, disc science & disc history channel which i never watch...so its a waste of money...but i got no choice unless i can make do without Discovery & Nat-Geo

if they can charge, say RM5 per channel per month, and let ppl choose whatever channels they want, wouldn't that be better?

perhaps your petition can include this request? then i will surely sign.

There was a few(MegaTV and something else, cant remember doh.gif ) but all the distribution rights already bought by Astro, so what are they going to show?

EPL and ESPN, HBO, Discovery, CNN already bought by Astro. No other mainstream channel left. Showtime? Too adult.

So even if they let other satellite provider in, you wont suscribe to them cause there is nothing good. blink.gif

Still got channels like FOX, VH1, AsiaNet that Astro still doesnt show....only in terms of Sports n movies it might be a hard sell for an alternative satellite channel

The bulk of suscribers are for either Sports(EPL) or Chinese Serials. IF you take that two out, dont think there is much for ppl to suscribe to. (During crisis then CNN). Most ppl cancel their HBO after a while as they complain that the have seen all the movies repeats. rclxub.gif
