I disagree a little. Yes Adebayor might not have lasted 5 minutes against the likes of Keown, Vieira, Big Tone, Bouldy, Nutty, Manu Petit, Willie Young and Peter Storey but then again these names wouldn't even last a full 90 without getting sent off looking back at the last 2 games. Like I have mentioned many times, people always say how we get bullied into submission and our lads always lack the "bottle" to fight back but how on earth do you expect the lads to fight back when just 1 foul immediately gets a yellow from the ref whereas the likes of Fletcher, Rooney, Adebayor gets 12983719287389127398 warnings with stamps and two legged, studs up tackles before only receiving a yellow in the 90th minute?

You're right, our players will probably get sent off. But back then, our players almost always get sent off... But that only made us stronger and we end up winning!

That's the difference between the mentality of players then and now.

Not to forget, Cesc, Bendtner and Djourou also qualify.

Not sure about Denilson and Song though. They must spend minimum 3 years in England/Wales before 21.

Added on September 15, 2009, 2:28 pmThe rules never said anything about being British.

Yeah true. We do need to show our opponents a bit about our mentalities and characters. If a few red cards are needed along the way, so be it. Back in the era of vieira, i have lost count how many times i've seen him being sent off by ref. There was even a point i truly believe our team has even adapted to playing with only 10 men. And somehow we rarely lost even if paddy was sent off. What we need here is to strike out the fear in our opponents. The kids need to learn what to do when they get roughen up by the opponents. But of course this kinda things, usually players will learn only when they get older

Added on September 15, 2009, 2:49 pmbtw.. some Euro news.. Steven DeFour of Liege is injured for 3 months. that's a bit of good news. he was to Liege what Cesc is like to us.

Anyway, it ain't gonna be easy. SL just won 3-0 over the weekend and looking to improve. They are slow starters so, it'll good if we jump the gun first. biggrin.gif

Thanks to Studs Up for coming up with their usual brilliant take on a topical issue. Perhaps if RVP and Ade see this they will laugh off their collective anger and the world will be a better place, well probably not. CLICK below to see the comic sketch.

Wrong boots got Diego Forlan kicked out of Manchester United

Diego Forlan has revealed he was kicked out of Manchester United by Sir Alex Ferguson for wearing the wrong boots.

Forlan, who played for United between 2002 and 2004 before joining Villarreal, said Fergie flew into a rage when he refused to wear the boots the Old Trafford boss demanded.

Fergie famously threw a boot across the Old Trafford dressing room in anger, cutting David Beckham above his right eye, and Forlan claimed he also lost the plot with him.

"Ferguson wanted me to play with high studs, the interchangeable ones that suit wet pitches," said Forlan, a flop at United who took 27 games to score his first goal for them.

"But I feel more comfortable in low ones. I agreed to change boots, but I didn't. Against Chelsea, I slipped in front of goal and wasted a chance.

"Afterwards, I rushed to the dressing room to change boots. Ferguson caught me. He grabbed the boots and threw them. That was my last game for United."

Forlan - now at Atletico Madrid - also revealed how Fergie called him with inside information on Arsenal when Villarreal met the Gunners in the Champions League last season.

"I was having a drink in Villarreal, when a friend answered my mobile," said Forlan. "It was just before we played Arsenal in the Champions League and Ferguson wanted to tip me off.

"And when we were in London he showed up at our hotel. I still have a good relationship with Sir Alex and his brother Martin.

"We have conversations and sometimes he asks me about South American players I might know of."

Forlan was also full of praise for his former skipper at United, Roy Keane, whom he revealed tried to sign him when he was in charge of Sunderland.

"Roy Keane's charisma, his personality on and off the pitch, he's a gentleman," said Forlan.

"In training he'd explain things in a good way, and sometimes in a bad way because it mattered.

"When he was boss at Sunderland, he called me all the time to go and play for him."
