i decided to do some extension at the back(new house) and awarded to contract to one contractor

signed the quotation agreeing to work done

i did not ask him to do anything else as i wanted to get seperate quotes from diff ppl as i am not in a hurry

the cont has brought his electrician n also some grill n gate man to give me quoatations...

is it wise to reject his electrician n grill quotations? as i find it a bit higher?

shall i wait until he finish doing the extention and leave, then only get in other ppl to do the job?

2. for nomal extention at the back, will it also include painting?

3. for the auto gate part, i asked him to make the pillars wider as want to install bigger gate. He then wanted me to use his men to do the gate but the price is so high....so i declined as i found a much cheaper gate outside

now he says, the gate must be done first before the pillar so they can install the gate as soon as the pillar done... but the gate fello i asked , told me to do the pillar first as they will need a accurate measurement.... but my contractor say its not rite to leave the gate open ..

so wat is the normal way to do the autogate? must the pillars be done first?> cant the contrcactor just do a starndard distance between pillars then the gate fello do the gate?

why the gate fello say need to do pillar first, then only measure?

Ya, wrong section.

However, by law, all your question is actually based on your contract (if there is a contract) items.

Contract = agreement (offer & acceptance) + intention + generally consideration.

You can reject "quotation" but not contract.

yes... based on previous renovation of my house, the pillar has to finish first, only then they can get correct measurement for the gate. this is to avoid wrong sizing of the gate...

so its true that the pillar has to be done first,

so the gate maker is correct...

the contractor is fishy ehhh

another the problem is after doing the pillars, the entrance will be wide open, people can enter .....since it will take 2-3 weeks to do the gate.

thats the way it is if you are using different contractor cos there's always lead time in procuring custom material. IMO, he wants the works & less fuss thats why he told u gate first. Not sure about 'chopping' as some suggest.
As 2 different contractor involves, there'll be some petty conflict about whose scope, work, etc. Eg, if some crack apear on pillar, contractor will say gate installer fault, & vice versa.

I've been using mixture of contractors based on best price and sometime on convenience. Most of the time using their panel of sub-contractors would make things go smoothly and they already have mutual expectation. When you introduce someone unknown to them, you'll have to be the middle man and get them talking to each other. I'm lucky that they communicate and don't need to escalate to me for solution. My main con do not push his sub-con but instead ask them to fight for the job based on best quotation. Here is my list

- electrician - main con panel - lowest price among 3
- aluminum sliding door - main con panel - convenience since he supply the windows as part of main con deliverables
- plaster ceiling - main con panel - convenience since he supply ceiling as part of main con deliverables
- tiling - someone else - lowest price among 3
- painter - main con panel - lowest price among 2 plus better workmanship
- grills & gate - someone else with better quality but medium pricing
