thats the way it is if you are using different contractor cos there's always lead time in procuring custom material. IMO, he wants the works & less fuss thats why he told u gate first. Not sure about 'chopping' as some suggest. so the gate maker is correct...

As 2 different contractor involves, there'll be some petty conflict about whose scope, work, etc. Eg, if some crack apear on pillar, contractor will say gate installer fault, & vice versa.
