My TP2 GPS detect signals very fast ; is much better than my htc HD - usually 15-20 seconds ; I noted the gps loclup signals is faster in Mapking 2007 vs Garmin XT. I did not need to use the hotfix file as it has been performing very well to my satisfaction. Those having problems should send in unit to check - could be hardware issue and if still under warranty, the motherboard will be replace FOC. I have a friend similar issue and fedup with getting the GPS to work smoothly, send it in and mboard replace FOC and now he is very happy with no more GPS issues

do u guys have any problem with Touch Flo 3d running on HTC Touch pro 2..
when i reboot the device the touch flo won't run..
tried couple of time and it is back to normal?
is there anyone facing the similar problem? how can i resolve it?
*
This is vague query. What programs did you installed just before you have this TouchFlo issue ?? First check whether TFlo is enabled - go to Settings/Today/Items - make sure it is selected. Such issue normally caused by installation of incompatible programs which deactivate the TFlo

Downloaded last night and already a day , rom is running smooth. No major issues - the My Location detection seems better than my previous cooked roms Enery Photon and AtomAng Fusion V6. SMS lagging - not noticeable if any
The rom version is : 1.86.707.4 ( 67102) WWE and radio is 4.49.25.17
Suprsing the download was pretty fast , took me only 25 mins for the 171MB file

Yes this is the biggest problem with the official HTC Asia release. Before installing any 3rdparty programs, it shows memory usage up to 70 - 75% already. This is definately unacceptable. As for the cooked roms ( popular ones being AtomAng Fusion v6 and Energy Photon ( the meory is better starting at average 60 % but the memory "leakage" quickly build up to 80 t0 85 %. So when you are using the browser after load several websites continoulsy ( even closing the earlier pages ) the memory will run out.

I manage to find a better cooked rom TPC ver 3.2 ( Manila 2.1 ) - before installing any 3rd party the meory shows only averages 50 % > This rom has even include in a lot of 3rd party programs. Has been testing it 3 days already and is pretty smooth sailing. I can now browse up to 15 sites anytime continously with Twikini updates in background and memory is hovering about 80 % - excellent

For ROM freaks why don't you try it out download from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=576361

by the way, a quick question installation of cook rom just need to download the file and install? do i need to jail break anything?
*
If your unit is a original UNTOUCHED unit - you need to perform a hardSPL process first ( conspt similar to jailbreak ) : read all about it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540 . It is not complicate process but take care follow instructions carefully

Once you have SPL your unit - you can then install unlimited rom types until you get fedup with flashing. The developer has also provided a very easy exe file to restore your unit back to original status ( in case you need it for warranty purposes ) . Is a very simple one step procedure

QUOTE(winniechen @ Nov 18 2009, 11:59 PM)
I upgraded to the official HTC rom on the first day its available. Everything was fine and I liked the coloured tabs and the new Start menu.

The last 2 days it's been a bit buggy. Other than the fact that the memory is always quite full (with no apps running), it's a little slow. It's been quite buggy too. I turn on the phone (from standby) and the top header will be there but the rest of the screen will be black and won't load for about 20 seconds. I tried tapping the "task" button and sometimes the bottom tabs will load.

When I drag the bottom tabs and press other buttons, it will lag summore and messaging (SMS) seems to lag more. I've accidentally sent out blank SMS a couple of times.

anyone with the same problem?

PS> I don't really want to try cooked roms. I've had to send past HTC phones back for servicing a few times in the past (changed motherboards before) and didn't want to void the warranty in case I have to do this with the current phone.
*
Memory high utilization - This is the biggest issue with the htc official 6.5 release . I was on it only 2 days , then revert back to cooked rom. For the last 1 week or so, most cooked roms, memory had tweaked very well to average 50 to 60% ( before install other programs). Furthermore most cooked roms comes preinstalled with additional programs. Unlike other htc pdas, the XDA cooks had develop a very simple ONE step process to restore your rom to original stock - so is not a big issue here

Thank you everyone for the tips on flashing a cooked rom. I am going to give it a try today. Any specific cooked rom I should try? I found the guides on XDA developers. Looks like the Energy ROM is good?

If Energy, try the latest version is dated 19Nov build 21869 ( Manila 2.1 )

Just flashed to Energy ROM. Not bad, but a little different from what I'm used to.

Playing with it a little but my hands still itching for a new phone. I am contemplating on a HD2 or Hero (selling out to get an Android).

Anyone have any other suggestions on how I can improve my TP2 now? Games, applications, etc?

Added on November 23, 2009, 2:49 amAnother question. If I want to flash back to the original ROM for warranty purposes, do I just do a HardSPL and install back the original ROM?
*
To flash back to stock rom , just connect your PDA to PC , activesync to connect and just run the RhodiumSPLRelocker.exe program ( download it if you haven't ) ; is very easy restore takes only 5 minutes. I'd say restoring stock rom in this TP2 is the easiest I have ever seen compare with all the other HTC phones

My QuickGPS is working fine all the while, but recently when the QuickGPS prompt me to download as is going to expired, after download 100% it prompt me that Data activation failed, mention something regarding the location setting must be turn on.

Beside that i found out that my Garmin Mobile XT unable to detect my internal GPS too.

Please help me, anybody?
Thanks in advance.

What rom are you on ??

On Manila - go to Settings /All Settings/Location/ makesure the first box Location Service Settings is TICKED and below it HTC location service is also TICK. Leave the third selection below UNTICK

If you are on cooked rom, check the relevant forum and see whether other users has such problem ; sometimes is rom issue.

To confirm it is not hardware issue:

1. Open Google Map : Under options select use GPS - see whether the GPS can locate satellites - if unable possibly GPS chip problem

2. flash back to stock rom ( if you are on cooked rom ) and test again. If on stock rom still fail, possibly your GPS chip "is fried" and you need change motherboard. I have a friend same issue : only 1 month old unit on original rom - as unit under warranty, mboard was replaced FOC

i read about sense 2.5.. that's the manila 2.5?

isn't it buggy?
*
Manila Sense 2.5 is NOT available on official HTC roms. This version was develop for the HD2 ( Leo ) and is NOT suitable for the TP2. It is only available in cooked roms - it is laggy because mainly it is more suitable for higher processor ; the bugs are because it is being "cooked" from the the HD2 roms. If you want a stable cooked rom, jusrt stay away from the Manila 2.5

If you have upgraded to the official 6.5 HTC rom - YES the memory utization is higher. Please read back posts 203 to 206 for user experience/comments

QUOTE(chenster @ Nov 30 2009, 05:11 PM)
then which is the best cooked rom for HTC TP2 now?
*
There is NO best rom ; if you posed this question at forum.XDA your post could be deleted. If you were to review all the postings in the cooked roms, you will notice one common trend : there are praises and same time criticisms.

It actually all depend on what you want in the rom. Some guys wants a rom brimful with utilities while some want a leaner/thin rom with most Windows builtin programs removed. I prefer a leaner rom cos I find many Windows utilities are not necessary or I never use.

I'd not recommend one to try the Manila 2.5 versions as it is still in developmental stage. This is based on the HD2/Leo. However since the HD2 was released , the last 10 days has seen more improved versions of it from the various cooks.

The most stable rom is still based on Manila 2.1 ; I have tried most of it and I also cannot tell you which is the best

If you are a rom flash freak - popular ones are Energy, Cell Pro, TPC, Miri, Fusion - who are more aggressive in updating their roms. Of these I find Fusion the most satisfying ( read is NOT the best ) and meeting my needs follow by Energy, TPC, Cell Pro and Miri

My LEAN rom choices are Cell Pro and ER2 ; presently my TP2 is on Cell Pro Lite ver 2

So to find your "best" just download and flash thde various ones available. Spend some time reading the postings and assess which one might be suitable for your needs

Added on November 30, 2009, 9:50 pmNow that I have got myself a htc HD2 - i wish to sell off my TP2 ; bought it 9 Oct 09. My unit is not local set, bought in Spore with receipt - is a imported T-Mobile unit ( very beautiful Gold/Brown color combination ) without front camera. PM me for details. Outlook is 10/10

Muahaha, Benny888. You're in the same position as me. I got the HD2 out of super sheer excitement and drooling over the HD2 and got rid of my TP2 as well. Unlike you, I was feeling charitable and gave it to my brother. How I wish I could make some recovery on the HD2 investment. Good luck in your sale!
*
Actually this was my 2nd unit . My first unit I bought in KL - but I traded in for this T-Mobile. Because :

1. Build quality is much better - it feels very solid ; I suppose quality requirements for Taiwan products to Europe is higher
2. The color scheme Gold Bronze/Brown was so beautiful
3. The volume switch is separated into 2 pieces : up and down - easier to press
3. Reset hole is located outside at the side
4. The micro SD card is located at the side and can be remove opening a small flap ; so for both reset and this one no need to take off back casing
5. Overall size looks smaller/slimmer due to design of the edges round the unit

Well I do recieve several enquiries and I letting go cheap just to recover some money loh!

##########################################################
2 Dec UPDATE: For thos who have enquired - unit already sold. TQ for the interest

this phone price should drop...i hoped..lol
*
Yes I think it'll drop further but not so soon . These prices were quoted to me at LowYat shops yesterday ( I ask just out of curiosity).

You cannot compare the TP2 with HD2. Both are different - HD2 is without keyboard and capacitative screen while TP2 is with keyboard and resistive screen. Those who do a lot of typing will HATE the HD2 but they will love the TP2 ; infact I'd say the TP2 is the BEST windows mobile pdaphone with keyboard I had ever used. No other pda can match its keyboard including non WM eg the recent Nokia N97, Nokia E71. Close to keyboard performance will be the Blackberry Bold. Until HTC released a keyboard successor, I seriously doubt price will drop fast

QUOTE(Antraz @ Dec 16 2009, 01:34 PM)
Ohh if that is the case then can i ask what is the diff btwn AP n SIS??what is SIS??
*
SIS is the main authorised reseller/distributor of HTC ; infact SIS is the bigger boy here. People are more comfortable buying from SIS because of warranty issues as SIS has own service centre and if you need to send in your phone for warranty - it's supposedly less hassle free and quick servive as they have parts/technicians to attend to it

AP sets are sets imported in by other companies and their phones distributed through many phone dealers. If your set has warranty issues, most of these company will direct your sets back to either HTC ( KL ) or SIS for service/repair; so you'd expect slower service support here.

So you just got to figure out whether you want to save few hundred ringgit buying AP ??

So far my experienced with AP sets very good - only 1 case, I return for warranty and got it back 2 weeks later. However my experience with SIS not so good, for last 2 years I return 3 units for warranty claims but service was good and I got my sets back within 3-5 days.

My advise if you want to buy AP - buy it from the bigger shops and make sure is a sealed box and open infront of you. There are quite a few unscrupulous smaller shops that will change some of the items - chargers, cable, batteries to generic quality to unsuspecting customers

Best source freeware and paid programs : www.pocketgear.com - I download practically all the freeware and purchased software from this site - is very reliable ( purchasing is a breeze - you download and you get acknowledgment and serial codes within few minutes ). Another site is www. handango.com

If you are asking for "ahem" sources of cracked/pirateware - sorry not allowed to ask and discuss in the forms

just love it when i am go on testing the pda
*
Good price - does it come with 8 GB micro SD card . Is the supplied firmware WM 6.1 or WM 6.5

If it is at WM 6.1 - upgrade - it is FOC at htc.com the official WM 6.5 version

If you are now on WM 6.5 highly recommend you flash to one of the cooked roms ; the default WM 6.5 and 6.1 rom , very poor memory management. You'll notice if you multitask and browse few sites same time, the memory utilizations goes up very fast up tyo 80-90 % , meaning you need to clean ram or soft reset often
Of all my WM PDA phones I ahve ever used, this TP2 is the easiest to flash new roms and restore back to stock rom
