how the speed test for D68 and D98 package? i'm using D68, speed is horrible despite having hsdpa signal..

tried Maxis prepaid daily, the speed are superb..too bad, i can easily reach the quota limit..

if d98 can beat this maxis prepaid then i'm sure upgrading it to d98..pls help me to decide..

i'm at centre of KL rite now..i've both celcom and maxis with me..

both give hsdpa signal..

the only different becoz celcom is 384kps plan while maxis is up to 3.6mbps..

i've tested both by downloading one mp3 files which using the same url location..

result:

celcom - average 8kbps

maxis - 180kbps..can reach 249kbps...

i think from the above explain why i really want to know..issit becos the package i took, or the service provider that makes the difference...

location and timing factor i guess is not applicable in my case here..

p/s: i'm using the same usb modem (Mi which i bought from celcom), connection for both appear 7.2mb when its connected..the same laptop...

i guess its becoz the celcom plan has limited speed of 384kps..if d98, perhaps, can match my maxis..but i need to convince myself that by switching to celcom d98, really can make difference..or otherwise, its just burning my money..

any different on signal reception between celcom D68 and celcom d98?

maxis at my area steadily stood at hsdpa signal, despite there is no 3g coverage available when i check at Maxis website..

Unlike celcom d68, hsdpa signal is quite inconsistent..my area has celcom 3g hsdpa coverage according to the website..

but both celcom and maxis showing consistent hsdpa signal at my office..

what i'm trying to ascertain here, i wonder if i subscribe the advance package ie d98 does nt solve the problem due to inconsistent signal in my area..

i would not asking if the only solution here is i need to test it myself first..

there should not be any difren in terms of signal reception on difren package..

maxis website (3G coverage) is not updated one... sweat.gif

if u wan others to giv speed comment in yr area plz specify (specifically) where is yr current location...centre of KL? it could be hundreds of BTS there...speed may vary from one BTS to another...

thanks..

i've made up my mind then..

maybe celcom is just not suitable in my area..

despite i dont like maxis (pricey and small quota limit) but with the superb speed and stability, its a time saving when downloading..(speedtest showing about 2.8mb for downloading speed (shah alam) , celcom 0.30mb (in KL)

not going to consider streamyx as i need mobility..

P1 W1max coverage is not available in my area as yet..

i still has celcom simcard for daily internet connection for certain areas not covered by maxis..

digi? my fren will lend me his digi simcard to test it myself on the connectivity..

thanks

yeah u should consider digi at da 1st place rather than maxis/celcom if u r in klang valley...it should be better...but make sure u r ready paying up to RM138 if u choose explore or discover plan...
*
correct me if i'm wrong..

i just realize that d68 only offering 3g speed but d98 offering 3.5g..

issit true..how this effect the signal reception?./

if my d68 keep changing signal from hsdpa to utms, can i get stable hsdpa signal if i change to d98?

to terminate celcom 3g have to wait at least 3 month to get refund according to CELCOM careline..

da difren is da speed...UMTS is up to 384kbps while HSDPA for celcom n maxis can be as fast as 3.6Mbps while digi 14.4Mbps...

in terms of coverage i would say celcom is da best...covering up to 70% of populated area...while maxis still expanding the coverage in major cities n towns... smile.gif

no point having wider coverage but no stability connection in your area..if you alwayx in a move than go for celcom..

otherwise, pls do some testing before you decide which broadband you are planning to use..

as for me, broadband is all about stability, speed and mobility connection..u spend less time browsing with high speed connection so that u can have extra time to do other thing..

using celcom in my area, the line is alwyas disconnected when i got UTMS signal, and it will resume connection when the signal back to hsdpa..then UTMS again, then HSDPA, then UTMS, again and again..so no point talking about speed and mobility here..conclusion, its useless, as good as not having broadband..

after testing maxis broadband, in my area, then i'm no longer hesitate to terminate my celcom straight away..its stupid connection..

my 2 cents

for maxis student package, it is only apply for those age of 21 to 25 years old..i think similarly to Celcom, since the package is intended to college or university student only..

maxis got broadband package for student? any details? my bad, never heard before  doh.gif ...myb yes myb no...celcom r also attacking not only those between 21-25 but also as young as 12-17 (remember SOX plan)... very smart one...

got la..Rm48 a month..speed unlimited..but quota limit 2gb laarrr vmad.gif

with their high speed then i guess within one week u can easily burst your monthly 2gb quota limit..

Maxis weekly package i guess better than celcom d98 package which offering 2gb a week X 4 weeks = 8gb than Celcom d98 of 5gb a month..

Yeah, I agree IFit's for moderate user...

But for heavy user, who torrent, rapidshare and downloading 24/7I think celcom is better... hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
if downloading via torrent, neither maxis and celcom broadband is suitable esp for heavy user..fyi, its almost impossible downloading via rapidshare with Celcom due to ip sharing, but this disadvantages can be solved with Maxis BB.Celcom still allow torrent up the quota limit, but i heard maxis never allow it..

By that reason, people alwayz talk about forget about those 2, stick to the ONLY ONE>.STreamyx!

Yeah..streamyx more stable and unlimited...
But, because before this, you compare between maxis BB and  celcom BB..

for rapidshare, yup someone with free account will get problem due to ip share, but it's possible for premium account user even ip is shared... thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif
*
thats true..its is possible if with Rapidshare premium account, but extra cost la.. sad.gif .. (but with highly superb download speed rclxms.gif )

some others filesharing website doesnot allow multiple downloading, hence u might also need to have premium account with others as well..monthly charges already cost u the hell than need to pay extra for premium account may not be seen favourably. U sure really pissed off if you compare against BB packages offered overseas.

i dun like streamyx due to non-mobile reason, despite u can have wireless router at home..

i might need celcom bb when i'm in certain area not covered by Maxis, but it looks that maxis the best option for my daily needs..still, more choices the better!

oww ok thanks for the explanation..

damn i hate 5gb quota..
*
you can call celcom centre and ask them to increase your quota limit..but you need to pay extra..say, add one GB with additional Rm10 a month..

my friend working with celcom centre told me that yesterday nite..

Izit??? U sure of this??? So i can increase the capping capacity to 6GB by just adding RM10 for another 1 GB??? WOW...
*
this is what i heard, i'm not absolutely sure about this, becoz i'm not interested to ask further, since i'm on maxis broadband now...

from my understanding from what she told me, u can still ask to increase your quota limit, that is not as a permanent package..your normal package still capped at 5gb a month.

only when you exceed the limit of 5gb, say, in the 3rd week of the month, then u can ask them to increase the limit by 1 or 2gb according to your requirement for the remaining one week of the month, but with extra charges arrangement.

This is to enable you to enjoy higher speed once you exceed the monthly quota limit ie during the 4th week.

the only way to know that u have to test the broadband coverage by yourself...

celcom and maxis have their daily packages, u must try this first if you are looking for wireless broadband..wider coverage means, u can get the signal, but may not necessarily good if the connection has no stability..i rather pay higher for stability & speed connection compared to paying less, but whether i can connect to the internet or not, in question..

There is no hsdpa coverage in my area according to the website, but i'm enjoying hsdpa speed at this moment..in fact, i can still surfing internet if the signal turn to GPRS..what i'm trying to say, u need to test it yourself, unless if your neighbourhood already experiencing it..then ask them..

P1 WiMax absolutely not available at your place, the same goes for DIGI..

Ohh, ok. I never thought about the daily package before. Maybe will give a try first. But in order to suscribe to it, I need a 3g simcard right? my current simcard did not have 3g sad.gif
I'll try the daily first, see either my place face this problem or not icon_rolleyes.gif

i'm using my 10 years old sim card to buy daily broadband package..what u need to do is to activate your 3G configuration..

If your sim card is 10 yrs old, most likely it is not a HSDPA enabled sim card. Go to any Celcom branch and they will change/upgrade your sim card to a new one FOC.
If you use your old sim card, most likely you'll only get GPRS connection speed even though you subcribe to D68 or D98...
*
i also earlier thought that i need to change my SIM card to 3G enabled sim card..but maxis centre said, no need to change my sim card..they just do setting my sim card 3g configuration, and there u go..i got stabled hsdpa connection in my house..

When i subscribe d68 earlier, i'm using the new 3G celcom sim card given..but the result is really dissappointed..
