I was also thinking about 580EX2 ... but $$$ is out of budget.
Then come this Di866 .... with in my budget (next month), but then no review on Canon mount yet. All review read so far is about Nikon mount.

anybody came across that when you turn on your Di866, the pilot lamp continuously blinking, no matter what button you press got no response, can't even turn off, lcd screen is blank?
I encounter this problem few times, but it back to normal on the next day, wat i do is just leave it there for a night. it's confirmed that not overheat problem, becos i just took a few shots and it happens randomly. Hi. can you please try the wireless remote on i866. if it is good, than I might consider get one. or if its the same quality as i622 then no thanks ! My experience with i622, it horribly went bad when you use the optical remote during daytime.

I have read some review of this flash gun and it was a good review. However, there is another side of its weaknesses which I read from other forums.
For Nikon user, especially you like to play CLS. The commander mode is not sensitive enough. (The camera must near to the flash gun in order to work perfectly). It means the flash gun has to be primary in order to trigger it. For those who wish to use this as primary flash (attach to the camera body), you might consider it as SB 900 alternative. I also came across this brand call Mertz, and the model type is Mertz 58. *Design layout similar to Di866 (built-in driect flash on the device) *CLS enabled Anyone here using this Mertz and how much it is cost now? |

If u think the Di866 can replace SB900, well that's inaccurate.
A lot who bought the Di866 with the above idea, some even swear by it after a few rounds of usage, ended up selling it & change to SB800/900. If u use it for indoor strobing, then definitely Di866 offers more value than the Nikon SBs. |
