QUOTE(evilguy @ Jan 1 2005, 02:18 PM) same as me. suse is my choice but just curious. if we use yast to install application, it can also uninstall it right? but just for rpm application only. and how about tarbal application. (the one that have .tar) i'm succesfully install a lot of application using tarbal such as tvtime, xine and etc. but how to unintall it? using the commad "make uninstall" ? in what directory? am i right? in the extracted directory. eg. find xine folder and then type make uninstall. however not all the tarball files included the uninstall command. anyway, I'm also a so-called newbie in this linux thingie, and as far as I concerned, Suse 9.1 pro is fine running on my box. Agreed with the YaST feature, help you a lot when installing rpm packages. especially, the dependency check stuff. If I'm not mistaken, all rpms are compatible with suse, although they are made specially for red hat.

yes. I have tried all the files with .rpm extensions and got no problem.
Sometimes encountered required files missing (meaning that your installation or your application need other files first before proceeding), so you need to google around and find that file. Get it installed and then proceed to your previous installation. --> this is not a problem though, this is just a dependency check feature. Very helpful.

QUOTE(xanda @ Feb 28 2005, 04:09 AM) no. i mostly used rh9.rpm and suse.rpm. red hat, IMO, the most used linux distro is red hat. So whenever I search for rpm files I just used rh9 package (or suse if there are one) although I could see mdk files. But as evilguy said, if he cant install maybe mdk files not compatible enough with suse.

QUOTE(evilguy @ Mar 4 2005, 11:43 PM) it is not "cannot install" i've installed it but something odd happen cost when i try to lunch the program... nothing happen but .mdk.rpm have a lot of dependencies and conflict in some suse program. mean that if i want to install some .mdk.rpm i have to uninstall something to avoid conflic I preferred install the missing files if there are. If they are conflicted with my other application, I preferred not to install that app. Maybe if you search and try another, you would find the non-conflict one....
