So, three guys came in the gym today. Two of them look so skinny, the other one guy slightly on the plump side.
The two of them sounded like their first time on the gym, while the plump guy sounded like he knew about workouts all out.

So, they came in the gym, making so much noise and laughing their butts off.
They started working out immediately with push-ups, sit-ups, calf raises all with their own bodyweight, while the plump guy screaming "Do 4x15 for every workout you do!". I think there were about 6 different "warm-up workouts".
I assumed this is some military style warm-up training.

They then headed to the machines, and then took turns without rests at all, to do every machine there. The plump guy again screaming "This is the only way to build muscles! You must do all these without stopping!". He was basically acting like the personal trainer, more like a cheerleader to me. To my pity, the skinny guys were already damn beat out and complaining about being tired. The plump guy kept pushing them to do non-stop amount of sets for every machine, screaming "4x15!". Not only that, the plump guy decided the weights for his poor friends himself.

What do you guys think? I'm not a pro myself, but being a skinny person I was last time, I've only stuck myself to 3x10 or 4x10 with proper amount of rest between sets, and have gotten great gains out of it. Them doing it without stopping and then dying before finishing their second set, sounds like an overpush.

If you were there, would you go to them, and advice them against the plump guy's methods? Feels to me that his methods are more to cutting fat judging by his body size. Him teaching his new skinny friends that same way, won't it be anti-productive for them?

I'll leave them to die in the battlefield, for bringing a cheerleader.

Btw I'll just ignore them and let them do their thing. Teaching them would makes us look like a busybody, plus I have a schedule to follow, I have lots of things to do after training, teaching newbies are pointless because they don't speak iron yet.

I'm not being selfish. I taught a few people before, but instead of thanking you, they give you a smirk and continue with their bad form. So those people who were "making so much noise and laughing their butts off", do you think they are serious about training?

3x10, 4x10, 3x12, etc etc have not much of effect if we doing it wrongly...honestly, IMO, it's everybodies call to do how many set or reps, as long as it hits the targeted parts...even if you sway or curik makan, so be it lor...coz in the end, it's the results that matters...

I think they're just young ppl fill with intensity and less experience in life...it would be uglier if same behavior were to be potrayed by the older ppl (or senior ppl like us ??)...

I'll pass for day 1...hope they won't come again or at least, next time will be more weighlifting and less sound...

You gotta know who wants to learn and who doesn't

This is obviously the wrong group to approach.

If you see a guy nervously getting under the squat bar, just starting to descend but not really, do help the poor kid out.

Otherwise, myob.

I usually don't bother if they have a 'coach', since they're more inclined to listen to him.

LOL! It's a normal scene actually. I have seen a few situations like this where there will be 3 - 4 newbies and 1 leader; easily identified. That so-called leader will be instructing and giving senseless advise like the guy on your this thread.

I kinda pity all the wrong concepts and exercises that he was giving them. Well, if it's me, I just don't bother. I go to the gym for my own health. BUT, if the guy really seriously give a wrong advice which will harm them, I will find the right time and talk to the other person whom the advice is given to.

I will see them die and share with lyn members and laugh.

Yeap as u usual, saw these two guy, one try to do the bench press with the bar like 5-6 inch away from the chest, then tat guy get tired and start to wobble then the oth guy try to assist but still JOKING THERE, and HE ASSIST ON ONE SIDE OF THE BAR, so the bar is like one up and the other side down, then i was about to run over and help up, there is already one random dude went over and help, imagine wat will happen if nobody was there?

This is off topic but then IMO all sorts of rep-and-set patterns are capable of building muscle. It's the intensity (tempo, rest time etc) that matters. Well at least that's what I think. smile.gif

Bodybuilding is very much a selfish sport. So be selfish.

Of course, don't be a righteous prick all the time, therefore, help out when help is warranted.

Look at it this way: The more obsessed you are with what other people at the gym look like/are doing, the closer you are to becoming zeist.

I found that commercial gym here got lotsa weirdos:

1. One old fart washing his d*** in the basin, FF Manulife.
2. One uncle singing and lifting at the same time, CF 1U.
3. One teenager playing PSP in the locker room, CF 1U.

And a few more instances.

Frankly, I can't be bothered anymore.
