Just get my Acer Revo as HTPC and my current setup as below:


AVR -->(HDMI) --> | LCD |<-- (HDMI) <-- HTPC

1. AVR (Philips HTS6600) only 1 HDMI port, i use it as output and connect to LCD.
2. HTPC got only 1 HDMI port and use it as output to LCD.
3. LCD with 2 HDMI.

Now the question is my HTPC to my LCD only stereo... ? I can't connect my HTPC to AVR cause no more HDMI port in AVR. Anyway to configure and output 5.1 channel from this setup? Sorry if i not make my question clear...

I am also in the same dilemma. As there is no coaxial or optical output from Revo.

If connect via HDMI to AVR there are enough slots but AVR have to connect to TV. So everytime switch on Revo also have to switch on the AVR which is very troublesome. When normal surfing I don't want to switch on the AVR.

One solution to the problem is to get a HDMI splitter to connect out from Revo to be 2 HDMI output.. I will call my cable supplier to see whether they have it here in M'sia.

what about 5.1ch from the analog sound card output?

Analog output how to get digital? Should be only coaxial,optical or HDMI only.

yes, this the system ...
it has only 2 speakers....and use what they called "Ambisound" to simulate 5.1 surround sound...
i noticed it has coaxial digital in behind the woofer ...not sure what is this for...

Just another form of digital 5.1 (DD and DTS) input using Coaxial Cable instead of Optical.

...in this case, any chance for me to connect PC directly to AVR coaxial digital input to produce surround sound?

yes, it's possible. juz set the proper audio device in control panel to output the sound.

Digital output from Revo is only available through HDMI if not mistaken. So to enjoy the digital surround sound from Revo, you will need a HDMI port on the AVR.

Bro Chew, if the AVR is put to standby off, signals do not pass thru.

And digital output from Revo is only thru HDMI. There is definitely no coaxial or optical output. This was the bloody thing that I missed out during buying time. As it was PC Fair it is damn leceh and I was tired. I was thinking normally there will be at least 1 coax or optical at least.

But there are HDMI splitters where it can split out 2 outputs. Saw in Amazon abt US 20 each. Tmrw I will check my cable supplier see whether he got this here or not. It is just like a RCA splitter.

Acer Revo does not have coaxial or optical out? Well, that certainly strikes off this machine from my future shopping list.

I think it really does eh, just like any other devices out there for example DVD player, PS3 and etc. It did cut out some mess by just using a single cable. Perhaps it is designed in such a way that you either use it on your computer/office desk (who needs an AVR for web surfing and email checking...?), OR, use it solely as a HTPC in your theater room (who's gonna use their theater without an AVR?).

Better, give the current unit to other family member, then buy another one...ASRock Ion 330.

During normal surfing TV already suffice but when come gaming and movie time then there is a need for AVR. If connect to AVR and then route to TV then even normal surfing time also need to switch on AVR. This is very troublesome and waste of electricity. It cannot passthru if you don't switch on the AVR.

This is one area the designers really left out. Really che kai.

Cannot get the spliiter like the one in Amazon. M'sia really everything also hard to get one.

Bro Braveheart, I went through some thread here before that says the AVR will act as a HDMI passthru instead of upscalling whenever it is on standby. But I cannot recall which thread or which AVR.

Toggle between "HDMI Control OFF" and "HDMI Control ON" in Menu>Manual Setup>HDMI Setup>HDMI Control. Note: setting HDMI Control to ON enables the 1909 to do an HDMI pass-through of audio and video signals when it is in Standby mode.

1909 is such a peasant AVR surely your elite AVR can do it.

Mine is an older model lah RXV-2700. Don't have the latest audio capabilities.But luckily got HDMI.

Not sure with Yammy, maybe bro HTkaki can advise.

Yammy also got this feature but it is not stated whether applicable during standby time.

But my cables not long enough. Need to get 3 metres. Cannot try yet.

I have the Yammy RXV-863. If I remember correctly, cannot do passthru during standby, must be switched on. I should read the manual again...

You are right. Cannot pass thru during standby. Must be switched on as the HDMI needs voltage to carry the signals.
