Amazon makes a profit on you paying in RM as it's a higher rate - just like when using CC overseas and retailer asks if you prefer the charge in local currency.

I've ordered a lot from Amazon US in the past - but sometimes it takes months to get difference of import fees deposit back.

Even with the expensive shipping / import charges some IT stuff is often cheaper than buying @ Lowyat. Bought most of my 1700x rig and some 8TB HDDs too recently, all good!

Sounds like you bought the seagate 8th external one?
Probably the cheapest one yet there

Seagate 8Tb but the IronWolf internal ones for use in NAS (4 of them)

I have a USD debit card so don't need to worry about the bank conversion rate

Ironwolf got 3 year warranty right
Saw mkbhd unboxing a boxload of those 10tb ones
You can still claim international warranty, yes?

Which bank did you apply for the USD debit card?
I'm always checking the visa calculator + 2% bank charges to estimate actual price

Yes
You basically just redeem the giftcard codes and they're added to your account

Yeah, 3yr international warranty.

I personally use Lloyds and HSBC offshore - I think Citigold you can link to USD account too but haven't tried yet / checked the charges

Can anyone apply for llyods/hdsc offshore cc?
I'm thinking of getting one since there's some items from certain site that I can't purchase because their payment processing service rejects msian issued credit cards

As long as deposit is enough you can, however the minimums can be quite high. And it's a Debit not credit card

Since a few months ago Lloyds does charge a transaction fee though - they never used to before. I'm sure there's other options out there though for USD denominated cards

Lloyds is something like 30K USD IIRC. Obviously not worth it for purchasing on Amazon alone (especially now that they started charging for USD transactions!) I had a debit card with them for years so seemed logical to use that rather than Malaysian cards. This is a normal offshore bank account with debit card not one of those pre-loaded cards, I'm sure there's better options available if the aim is just to avoid the conversions charge (although conversion RM > USD will have to be paid somewhere)

I'm sure there's prepaid cards available but then you'd still have to fund those I guess which would also incur a currency conversion somewhere
