Hi all,
A quick question: if I use an aquarium as the housing, do I need to buy something to cover the top or can I leave the top open(topless)?
TQ
p/s: the aquarium is about 2 feet in length and 1 feet in height.

Hi all, I have another question. I'm planning to use a 2feet-by-1feet aquarium as base; and fill the bottom with hay/saw dust (since it seem to be the typical setup)... I'm wondering how long would a 60L saw dust and/or 1kg hay last in this type of setup?
Or is there another type of setup that can be recommended/suggested to me? TQ |

Hi all,
I'm wondering about the food made by Living Worlds. How does it fair compares to Vitakraft? Regards p/s: what about using toilet papers as bedding for hamster? This post has been edited by Dovienya: Oct 1 2010, 04:54 PM |

Thanks for the info.. For the toilet paper, do you tear them first, or just throw the entire roll into the cage/aquarium etc?
Also, I'm facing problem with my water bottle. It doesnt drip when I first add water (the 'hole' is working correctly), but after a while, when I come back to check, it started dripping on its own. I'm using a open-top aquarium, and the bottle is using suction to the side of the aquarium. Any help? regards p/s: my hamster bite my like no tomorrow This post has been edited by Dovienya: Oct 2 2010, 09:34 PM |

Normally the aquarium version got suction that stick the bottle to the mirror.
but mine donno why, after a while, the "angle" changes & causes the water to drip out. Then, i got a mushroom water feeder But now, my hamster doesnt eat and drink much. Maybe Vitakraft is not his type of food? It spent more time inside his "house" & each time I put my hand inside, it charge toward my hand and bite me .. Could it be because I only got him for 2days? Anyone's hamster show sign of selective eating?
Mine is selective in eating... digging thru the bowl and only eating those nut-like food.. p/s: Do you think I should change to pellet food? I'm currently using those mixture food. If yes, where can I buy those pellet food? This post has been edited by Dovienya: Oct 6 2010, 09:44 AM |

Internet did mention that we can use those fence (wire type - normally put on door to prevent dog/cat from going in/out or those that prevent mosquito from going into the room) to separate them. But this is for large cage/aquarium; if smaller cage, harder...
Once they got used to their scent, then slowly intro back. But are you sure they're actually fighting or maybe just playing or mating? |

I though the changes is once every 2 week?
Also, you can substitute the bedding with tissue and paper if you want |

Off topic:
I notice that you're giving them food pellet instead of mixture. Can I know where you bought them? I'm using mixture and my hamster are "selective eater" .. Wanna change his diet and see if he eat or not. On topic: You can repost you topic at Pet Wonderland - Pet in Need of Home. I'll add your post there |

Yours' also having problem with selective eating?
I'm using mixture.. Tried both, but he kinda "dig" them away; aiming for some unique food. I still cant find what he's interested in. Thinking of using those pellet only (remove all other mixture food). Then let him decide to eat or starve. But still not decided yet. Also, do you have problem with your hamster biting? |

I kept my hamster inside aquarium so..
when I put my hand in, he target the finger (whichever part I extended to him) and bite. Originally, if I use the other hand to touch him, he'll run away. Today special... he doesnt run when I touches him with other hand and kept on biting.. So, you can say that it's similar to your case, (to my hamster) my hand is the food. QUOTE(Rachel.tan @ Oct 12 2010, 10:49 AM) It's normal that they are selective when there are many choices, I think. Try not to put too much food in its bowl. and don't throw away the leftovers. Try not to refill on the 2nd day or 3rd day. (if more than 3rd days, I clear the leftovers away) I guess it'll be force to eat what's left. I don't think it's advisable to use pellet all of sudden. The package of pellet wrote that the food should be gradually change by mixing its normal food with little pellet. Then more as the week goes by. Hamster biting? When u feed them or when u "grab" them? I tried feeding mine to be friendly with them, but it seems to need a lot of patient. Then it ends up that whenever I put my fingers in, it'll thought that my finger has food. |

How to check
QUOTE(moshimaruu @ Nov 1 2010, 10:53 PM) Hi, can i know which website show/ explain to me how to differrentiate the gender of WW ? You can add, but it is advisable to separate them first; maybe use wire separator in the same cage. the key is that they need to get used to each other's smell before you introduce them.Or anyone can teach me at here? thanks in advance. Read this for more info Mine also have the same symptoms (only hide and doesnt come out), but mine is a dwarf hamster (thus, it is more of a loner type). But at times, mine does come out at middle of the night to "explore". But it's my first hamster, so I decided to keep only 1 until I have more experience. So, mine will be lonely till the end in comparison, robo is a group type hamster which need 2/3 or more to be happy. Dwarf can be happy being alone. QUOTE(vandetta_10 @ Nov 2 2010, 10:56 AM) |

I didnt notice any green ball thingy... what are those actually?
QUOTE(neshie @ Nov 10 2010, 12:09 PM) Then the female should also be campbell. If the male is a winter white, then I wouldn't suggest you to breed them. Do read this article Btw, I noticed in their food bowl there's the green ball thingy. It's not healthy for them. |

I also got the Vitakraft, but mine tend to be selective in eating.
If your is facing the same problem as mine, there is a simple suggestion. Stop changing their food daily. I change mine every 2-3 days. When I first add their food, he'll take all the sunflower seed. After a day or so, he'll go for other "available" food ; and since I didnt change the food, he's force to eat the remaining healthy, but not liked, food. |

QUOTE(JXplod @ Nov 11 2010, 10:58 PM) woo really a great owner u are , Mine bite too.Lucky you, only ignore pellets. Mine ignore most of the food. Tend to go for sunflower seed (obvious) and some wood-like & dried "brocoli" like food. QUOTE(riku2replica @ Nov 12 2010, 11:11 AM) |
