my pearl ww gua gua give birth yesterday..
jz now when i feed her, i saw 1 of the baby left at the corner outside the house..(the corner is quite far from the house and all the babies are inside the house) since most of the time the mummy will be hide inside her house,
so i use a plastic spoon and grab some bedding quietly and rub around the spoon, then use the spoon to " collect" the baby back to her house..
when jz reach infront of the her house, my mummy ww saw and come and grab the baby back into her house.
i m so worry, hope everyting will be ok and all the babies is safe..

oh ya, anyone know how long should i leave the milk with soak bread inside the cage ?
i dun dare to disturb her for changing the food too offen but i m worry the milk will basi...
*
I used to put soak bread with water on a shallow plate...mini size...

Usually, the mommy WW and the babies will clean them up within 2 days de... so u just gotta top up for them... don't really need to change it I suppose... unless they didn't eat it for long...

Congrats anyway rclxms.gif

thank you lala..i gv her milk with soak bread...someties soya with bread..
but everytime she oso cant finnish it..bcz she eat alone only so i m quite worry, her babies cant eat yet la, jz 2 days..~
i m 1st time take care the pups..
very scared and nervous oo...
scared and worry if anyting goes wrong..
everytime feed her must make sure got someting moving inside her house, then only i feel not so scared.. smile.gif
lala, may i know around how many days only the pups will walk out from the house? ^^
*
Usually 10-12 days the babies will start to open their eyes... then after that will wander around the cage... very cute at this time ^^

Oh... btw my soak bread I feed them start from the 10th day after birth de... mainly for the babies rather than the mama hamster. For mama hamster, I will put cooked chicken with water for her... cuz got lotsa protein for her. But, try use a shallow plate... and minima water... so the babies don't get drown...

Actually, nothing much to worry... the mama hamster will take care everything inside the cage... usually we just give support from outside abit... like providing food and water everyday only...

After 2 weeks from birth, then I only officially handle the babies de... ^^

Erm... when u cook the chicken meat with water... very simple de... just need small portion of chicken meat... then use knife cut it into small pieces or even better smash it. Then, put it on a metal plate with the chicken meat and some water... within 10-20 seconds the chicken meat should be done. Then transfer the correct amount onto your little plate... and make sure it's not too hot for the mama... then put it inside for her ^^

I'm sure she will like it alot ^^

Good luck to you as well biggrin.gif

Added on September 22, 2009, 5:07 pmElse, can give her some dog biscuits as well... its very good in nutrient ^^

Learn from experience lo... no point arguing here also.

How I wish someone could stand up and give me a kick at my butt that time when two of my babies died due to exposure under hot sun for long period.

Chill guys... really don't hope to see this often at this thread...

We human should live in an environment under toleration...

Syrian should live in an environment under isolation...

Sorry, maybe my english is not good to explain my ideas. I have about 200RM to spend for all stuffs (hams, food...). Is that enough ? for everymonth, I have about 100RM for hams. I think that enough. B/c in my country, I had 4 hams and they cost me about 50RM for 1 month.
Problem here is that I'm totally new to Malaysia and I need your helps to find good places to buy hams and stuffs.
thanks.

my 2 little hams (in my country, not here) :

This is just my opinion here ^^ The options are still up to u and don't get offended from me. Just trying share my ideas here with u.

From the pictures of your previous hamsters, I suppose you can try to upgrade the bedding u using previously, may be try to use paper bedding this time...breeder celect will be great for that.

Alright back to the questions, I suppose Rm200 for a start and RM100 for each month will be more than enough for just 2 hamsters... hehe... for me 7 hamsters now, spending around RM50-100 per month.

For Robo, I'm familiar with some pet stores at PJ...but not at Semenyih. So, here's some pet stores which I think is reasonable for you to purchase your robos.
1. Petshack Sunway - always known as the best seller here
2. Pet family - not too bad, but just gotta check on the hamsters before u proceed on buying it
3. Pet Wonderland Mid Valley - they are raring them in bulk... and the price is kinda high there.
4. Homebreed hamster - I suppose this would be my most recommend way for you to get your robos as I always support homebreed hamsters the most. You can try to search it on lowyat...else you can try mudah.com.my to find one as well.
5. Pet Lover Centre at Sunway Pyramid - the condition not too bad as they rare it in small amount... but choose wisely and carefully

By the way, do you mind telling us where your from actually? because Malaysia is actually a hot weather country... so just a piece of information here... don't bring your hamster out during the hot afternoon...they might not make it to survive @.@ That happen to my last batch hamster which 2 of the pups died from exposure to hot sun for too long.

Alright, I suppose that should answer your problems... feel free to pm me if you need further assistance ^^

Have a nice day guys biggrin.gif

Cheers rclxms.gif

soly..i need some help from u all..my robo had born 4 babies and 1 of the babies is smaller and weaker although after 15 days..but i check the cage again i found that the weaker babies is disappear and just left amount of fur..is tat the mother and other eat the weaker ady?...will it happen?
*
I suppose is the mom who eatan the weaker pups as the other pups won't be able to eat it as their teeths are still weak. Yeah, it happen sometimes when the pup is too weak and the mother will eat it just to replenish her nutrients lost.

Anyway, you don't really need to feel too bad for it. It's something which just happen and you couldn't really do much to it.

Hope that helps to relief you. laugh.gif

how red is it? did u try google it up?
anyway i have my own problem too, anyone can help?

i tried to mate my 2 dwarfs today, they were previously in separate cages from the day i bought them till now.. anyway, i put both of them in a neutral container with the intention to let them mate.. however, the girl (virgin) seem reluctant to do it.. when the male tried to mount her, she kept her backside on the ground, and stayed in a round shape.. so no way for him to do it.. what should i do?

Female : 3-4months old
Male : 6-8months old
*
Erm...try put them in separate cage which the cages next to each other for 2 weeks...

Take both out sometime and put on floor with toys and foods to play together...

Slowly let them build up some relationship 1st...

This is what I usually do to let a male and a female hamster pak toh 1st de...

hehe... ended up they will become very lovely and can even sleep together next to each other...

If the above approach failed, then I think the female WW is very reluctant to the male...

And...they shouldn't be mated as happened to one pair of my male and female WW before as well...

Hope that helps...

WW change their coats due to temperature and light. If the hamsters were kept in a dark place before, they would show their winter coat, which is greyish white. If temperature drops, that also happens. They can change anytime as it depends on the hamster's body reaction to its surroundings. It is very normal.
Red eyes are normal. Russian campbell and syrians have red eyes but it is never and should not be seen in WW or Robos.
Why breed them? Anyway, dwarf hamsters cannot be mated like that lah. Your way is for syrian, just that you have to know when the Syrian female is on heat.

Dwarfs need to have a bond. They need to feel that they are compatible with each other to breed. Please read on breeding, your way of trying to breed them at 1st meeting in a neutral ground is wrong. They need time, it is not instant matings like how Syrians do it.
*
Wow...I learn new stuff today...

All the while I treat my hamsters like human de...my WWs I will let the male and female pak toh... but I not really aware about the bond thingy... as in dunno how to put it in words...

However, I found that my WWs who start to play together 1st, turn out to become very sweet and lovely... Siao Bai and Siao Chu are the most lovely couple I have so far, they really can sleep together and like hugging each other... so well I always believed there's some bond between them. Until now, carzymouse mentioned this "bond" I can double confirm it actually exists biggrin.gif

Thanks for the new info for me again tongue.gif

Cheers biggrin.gif

well, actually.the hamster is already like..4-5 month and they are not sibling for sure because i get my female WW from my friend.i bring my female and male WW to my nearest vet  to make sure that they are fine and can mate already.i do make research before buy.i know that they are really active etc3..i just want to try new experience.they had been together like 1month together. sleeping together, play wheel together.. etc3...

erm..how do you guys that the female are already pregnant??

erm...guys...anyone got video hamster giving birth??i need KNOWLEDGE..i searched in youtube but all of the video only show the hamster already give birth... cry.gif
*
err... u do not need to see how the mama ww give birth @.@

the mama won't feel comfortable as well... just leave her alone when she gives birth... she will be able to take care everything...

less disturb to her is better...so you actually stress her less and give her more space as well tongue.gif

Well... if she is pregnant...just provide her more nutrient foods...dog biscuits...chicken meats...water(very important)...

And remembered covered the whole cage with newspaper or cardboard for 2weeks after birth...

minimal disturbance like sound...movement...

only disturb her when add foods and water for her everyday...

pregnancy for WWs around 18-21days after mating de... then after birth 10-12days baby WWs will be able to open eyes and around 14days able to start eat solid foods de... usually I put soak bread with water at 10days after birth de tongue.gif

If you need some further info on WW pregnancy, can read my blog as well, got some written work on my experiences ^^ hehe

hope that helps

that one how long can tahan ya?
*
erm depends on individual oh...

if mix BC and chipsi classic... for one hamster per cage and around one hand width tall... for me can last 2-3 weeks

if chipsi classic itself only can last around 10days...

if full BC... can last 3-4weeks...

it actually depends on the capacity of your cage as well... and the humidity surrounding...

anyway, usually the smell at the surrounding is the best judgment for me... smelly de...then I will change it tongue.gif

provide your WWs some bathing sand as well...they will like to roll inside there...

From time to time, check their belly...if you smell them smelly or see their belly getting yellow...then it's time to change the bedding de lo... see the amount of poo underneath the bedding as well...

So well...on forum it always say around 2 weeks+ should change bedding de...

But, for me, I always judge myself according to the condition inside the cage...no fix time to change bedding... tongue.gif

cheers.

another way to recognise the sex is(for dwarf only):

male = got yellow stain under belly

female = dont have any stain

hi everyone, i'm not sure if i should post this here, but i am desperate.

My 2 year old Syrian, Poppo, lately his ears started to go bald, now BALD. And they are BLACK, like leathery BLACK. As if there is no blood circulation at all. Same thing happening to his eyelids, losing hair and LEATHERY FEEL. He has black patches on his skin around his nose. And little black dots on his skin around his body but i ruled out mites cause he does not scratch, nor are there discharge at his ears. The black spots also don't move around, and they don't come off. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY POPPO? HELP sad.gif
PLEASE, ONEGAISHIMAS all you hamster senseis!

p/s : i have brought him to a vet, but they dont specialise in Hamsters, and they also got confused. They gave me another vet, Dr Yeoh in Taman Megah, but i called them and Dr Yeoh won't be around until thursday.

p/s p/s : he is still very active, running around happily and all without a care in the world.

If u get same type but different siblings, they will also fight with each other.. Only those born out same siblings background, they will get along one another..

But u can try to introduce them before putting them together.. Here are some steps:

1. Try to place the 1 hamster cage near the another hamster cage for at least 2 weeks to get them used to each others scene.

2. Occasionally, grab some beddings from each cage and place it into the other party's cage. Hamster relies alot on their nose, thus getting them to recognize each other scene is very important and crucial.

3. Sometimes, do introduce them to each other for testing purpose. This can be done by placing the 1 hamster outside the another hamster's cage. ( do this step only after 2 weeks later from the 1st day step 1 started )

4. After repeating step 3 for a week, you can try to place them together at a neutral place which has no comment scene or items. A good example is a large empty paper box. If they fight with each other immediately after you placed them together, then you should reconsider the decision to mate them. Else you can give it another last try like 2 weeks later to re-introduce them again.

5. If they still fight with each other badly on the next meet after 2 weeks, it's really not advisable to mate them as they couldn't even get along well together.

6. On the other hand, if everything turn out to be smooth on the 1st meet, then try to repeat step 4 for one week.

7. If they can get along well enough after 1 week, then try to place them in a same cage which is clean. Clean the cage with bleach and water (ratio 1:30) and soak it for at least 20minutes. Not for too long as bleach is strong acid.

8. Lastly, observe them closely for the first few days together in the same cage and separate them if any fight/injury occurs.

lastly, if they fight, u must separate them with cardboard..

Good luck smile.gif
